Wolves v Aston Villa Championship, 14th October 3.00pm
There is going to be no love lost between these two Midlands rivals when they meet up at Molineux on Saturday evening. It should be a good one woo with Wolves having produced a fine season and are sitting in the top two heading into the weekend. But Aston Villa have improved in form drastically lately with a four match winning streak going that has put them just outside of the top six. They could pull to within a point of Wolves with a win in this one. Wolves are 11/10 with William Hill to pick up the win, with the draw at 9/4 and Aston Villa at 13/5.
Wolves v Aston Villa Betting Tips
Wolves are one of the promotion candidates it would seem, from the Championship this season. They have made a good start to the season with a W7 D2 L2 record on the board so far and banked a big 4-0 win at Burton before the international break. At home, they have posted a W3 D1 L1 record and are unbeaten in three there. Their only loss on home soil happened against current league leaders Cardiff so really, Wolves have propped themselves up well. They have yet to be behind at the break on home soil in any league match this season and if you fancy them to go on and win then a Draw/Wolves half time/full time bet at William Hill fetches a decent price of 4/1. Wolves have only been losing one at half time in all league games, home and away, this season.
Their top scorer for the season is Diogo Jota who is a 15/8 anytime goalscorer option, while teammate Lohner Leo Bonatini is at the same mark too. They have ten league goals between them this season. Wolves took a 1-0 win in this corresponding fixture last season after having played out a 1-1 draw at Villa Park. So under 2.5 goals for the Midlands derby is a price of 4/6 because this is bound to be tense and tight. Four of the last five league meetings between Wolves and Aston Villa have gone under the goal line. A repeat 1-0 correct score for Wolves is a price of 11/2 with the 1-1 draw right there at a price of 5/1.
So Villa have improved their fortunes dramatically and then start the weekend up in seventh. After winning only one of their opening seven league games for the season, they have put a four match winning streak up. That’s a pretty good response by Steve Bruce’s men but it has to be looked at in context. Each of the four wins were against sides in the bottom half of the table and all against sides who have been struggling for form. But then, Villa have taken their chances and they are now on a great eight match unbeaten streak of form in the league (W5 D3). Villa have picked up five clean sheets in their last six games as well.
You have a price of 5/6 at William Hill on both teams NOT to score. Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia is the 9/2 William Hill First Goalscorer outright favourite while Albert Adomah has been in great form lately for them (four goals in four games) and he is at 15/4 in the anytime goalscorer market. Villa have posted a W2 D1 L2 record away from home in the Championship this season and have won their last two out on the road, thumping both Barnsley and Burton. With good reason, they should have their tails up in this one, especially given the occasion of a derby day, and although they have won just one of their last five games against Wolves, they have gone W2 D2 L1 in their last five visits to Molineux.
Who will win – Wolves v Aston Villa Predictions
Wolves to win: Wolves have proven quality this season and have enough on home soil to take a win in this derby match. Villa have done well to improve but their recent wins have all been against sides struggling in the bottom half of the table. Wolves can stop their progress.
