Can they put it all together on the day and beat the star-studded Australians?

Wigan toppled Warrington in the Grand Final last season. Along the way they created a bit of history for themselves, becoming the first team to win all of their matches in the Super 8’s portion of the season. They will be the last to do it as well, as the format has been scrapped in the Super League from this season.
It was Grand Final win against the odds because, at the semi-final stage of the competition, it was St Helens were running as favourites. But the Saints were stunned by Warrington in their final four fixture, leaving the Warriors to power their way to the title. In the World Club Challenge, Wigan have a fine history too. They are the all-time most successful club in it with four previous wins. They are 5/2 underdogs to extend their dominance* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on February 14th, 2019 at 3:09 pm)
This is not going to be an easy game for them, but they do have a bit of an advantage. The new Super League season is two weeks old already, so the Warriors have gotten some playing time under their belt. That is something that the Roosters don’t have as the NRL shut down at the end of September last year for the season. So they will be coming into this one cold.
But then the Roosters have some star power to call upon. That includes World Cup winning Australians Cooper Cronk and Boyd Cordner. The Roosters are just one of two teams (Bradford Bulls) to have won the World Club Challenge on more than one occasion while not having lost a final. The Roosters have won it three times before in their history so would draw level with Wigan as the joint all-time leaders with a victory.
Roosters have done it before in England
One of the three World Club Challenge titles that the Roosters have earned was in England. They took a victory in Bolton over St Helens to claim their 2003 title. But then three of the four World Club Challenge crowns that the Warriors have won have been on home turf. Wigan’s last title came in 2017, a fantastic 22-6 victory over the powerful Cronulla. That win for Wigan though has been the only success by a Super League team in the last six editions. There has been a clear dominance by the NRL participants.
The Warriors have already been rocked this season as they lost against St Helens on the opening weekend of the new Super League season. They are facing a superb team in the Roosters and even though the Australians are turning up cold, even though they will be facing a partisan crowd, the talent runs deep and the Roosters are the ones with appeal at 5/12 odds, but we think the margin will be under 12 points* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on February 14th, 2019 at 3:09 pm)
