West Ham News and Form

The Hammers got themselves a great way win at Spurs last weekend. That is their only away win against any of the Big Six for the season. Considering that they had taken just one point from their four previous games played, that was a big upset of a result. This is their final home game of the season then and their home form isn’t that bad. They have lost just one of their last eight home fixtures, winning three of their last five. Their defence has gone a bit wobbly lately, conceding exactly two goals in their last two home games.

In total the Hammers have scored 29 home goals this season, taking a clean sheet in 17% of home fixtures. Just 56% of West Ham’s home games have gone over 2.5 goals. The Hammers have actually conceded at least two goals in each of their last three home games though. Of the goals which they have produced at home, 62% of them have come in the second period of fixtures. They have only opened the scoring 8 of their 18 home fixtures, and of the home successes that have taken, five of the eight have been by a margin of at least two goals.

West Ham v Southampton Head to Head

West Ham earned a 2-1 win at Southampton earlier this season
The Saints have won one of their last four against the Hammers
West Ham won this corresponding fixture 3-0 last season
Each of the last five meetings have gone over 2.5 goals

Southampton News and Form

The Saints are able to breathe a sigh of relief now after having gotten themselves safe. That may naturally taken off a bit of their competitive edge as they go into this one. The Saints are now winless in their last three games, drawing their last two against Watford and Bournemouth. Their home form is really what pushed them over the finish line to safety. The Saints have taken only the one victory in their last six road games, a 1-0 success at Brighton.

Southampton have not taken a clean sheet in any of their last five league games but they have the positive of having netted in each of their last nine. They have scored in each of their last four away games. The Saints have averaged a goal per away game this season, conceding at an average of 1.8 per road fixtures. They have tallied a clean sheet in 22% of road games. Of their ten away defeats this term, six of them have been by at least a two-goal margin. Southampton’s overall away record this season is W4 D4 L10.

Who will win – West Ham v Southampton Predictions

It’s hard to see Southampton playing at their best in this one, with no need for intensity. So it is the home win that looks the best option in the match outright. It also has the look of being a low-margin non-competitive game with nothing at stake.
