Venezuela News and Form
Venezuela have lost just two of their last eight games, so aren’t in bad shape. Their final warm-up match ahead of the World Cup saw them take a 3-0 success over the USA. Their win prior to that was a 3-1 international friendly success over Argentina. Their big problem them looks as if it is going to be keeping the ball out of their own net. They have taken just one clean sheet in their last six games played.
Overall then Venezuela are W4 D3 L2 in their last nine games played now. They are lacking some consistency clearly, but they are capable on their day of beating better teams. So it will be interesting to see what they come up with. They did qualify from their group in the last edition of the tournament, getting stopped in the quarte rfinals by Argentina in a 4-1 defeat. Their best ever effort in a Copa America happened in 2011 when they finished fourth.

Peru News and Form
Over the last few editions of the Copa America, Peru has become a bit of a force. They have taken two third-place finishes in the last three editions. Back in 2016 in the last edition of the tournament, they were eliminated in the quarter finals by a penalty shootout against Colombia. They are not carrying a great deal of form into the tournament with them as they have lost just four of the last six played. In their last nine games, they have taken just a W3 D1 l6 record. They have come up with just two goals in their last four games.
They were torn apart by Colombia in a 3-0 defeat in their final warm-up match. They did manage to get out of the group stage at the last edition of the Copa America, looking to extend their good run of results at the tournament. They were stopped in the quarter finals by Colombia in a penalty shootout out though. With a failure to qualify for the World Cup last year, there is a hint that they are starting to go into a bit of a decline. Can they revive their fortunes in a good tournament opener?
