Valencia News and Form

Valencia are in control of this tie after two late goals, both on the breakaway, in the first leg gives them a 3-1 advantage. Valencia were in the Champions League this season and they posted a W2 D2 L2 record but finished third behind Juventus and Man Utd. This is the second time that these two have been together in European competition, having previously met in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup, with Valencia winning 1-0 on aggregate and then going on to win the tournament outright. So that’s a good omen for them for this season’s campaign maybe.

Valencia’s home record in Europe against Spanish side is W6 D1 L1, but have lost three of their four previous two-legged ties against fellow Spanish teams. This is their fourth appearance in the quarterfinals of the Europa League, winning two of their three previous ties. They are currently undefeated in ten games now at home in the Europa League, with a seven-match winning streak going. They have scored 20 goals and have conceded just 3 in their last seven European home fixtures. Valencia have progressed on each of the previous sixteen occasions that they had won the first leg away in UEFA competition.

Villarreal News and Form

Villarreal had gone undefeated at home this season in the Europa League Before the first leg of this tie. So that leaves them with a big mountain to climb, but they were always going into this tie as underdogs. Villarreal have played nine previous UEFA fixtures against fellow Spanish teams, but have come up with just the one win in that sequence of games. They have won just one of four previous two-legged ties against Spanish teams as well. They are going to have to go out and score a minimum of three goals on the night.

That doesn’t seem too likely. They made it through to the knockout stages after winning their group, in which they drew each of their away games. This is the third time that they are in the quarterfinals of the Europa League, winning their two previous ties at this stage. They had won all four previous matches in the quarter-final as well, before the first leg of this tie. Villarreal have lost only one of their last 13 UEFA Europa League away matches (W5 D7) and their overall record in the competition’s knockout phase is W7 D3 L5.

Who will win – Valencia v Villarreal Predictions

We can see Valencia pushing on to close out this tie fairly comfortably for this position. Villarreal’s big chance in this was on home soil. That’s gone. Valencia can get the win in this second leg as well at 8/11 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on April 13th, 2019 at 5:02 p.m.)
