The Chairboys earned a 2-2 draw in an entertaining game at Prenton Park in this FA Cup tie. After falling behind early in the game, they then found themselves ahead in the second half of the tie, but couldn’t hold on. They went back to Tranmere on the weekend in League One action and they secured a 2-0 win there, despite again coming off second best in terms of possession.
Wycombe are in great form at the moment as they are on a 10 match undefeated streak of form in all competitions. At Adams Park this season Wycombe are unbeaten, winning 7 of their 10 games played there. Each of their last three home wins have been by a 1-0 margin. Both teams have scored in just one of Wycombe’s last five games at Adams Park. The Chairboys are the current League One leaders but they have won just two of their last eight FA Cup home games.
Wycombe won at Tranmere in the league on the weekend
This will be the third game in the space of 11 days between the two clubs
Tranmere are winless in three against Wycombe (D1 L2)
Wycombe have lost three of their last four home games against Tranmere
Tranmere may end up rueing the missed opportunity of home soil advantage in this tie. This is a big ask of them now as underdogs. Kieron Morris got both of their goals in the first meeting between them. The Rovers have been struggling a little bit with their form recently as they have managed to take only one victory in their last five games played (D2 L2) across all competitions.
That one victory was at least out on the road in the league against the struggling MK Dons. Overall this season the away record of Tranmere is a poor W2 D1 L5. Just once this season on their travels have they managed to score more than one goal in a game. They have a bit of away form in the FA Cup though having taken a W3 D1 record in their last four such fixtures, scoring at least two goals in each of those wins. Can they pull off the upset?
Wycombe have held their own against The Rovers this season and that will likely continue as they meet up at Adams Park. They have the extra clinical quality in the attack that should see them get through this replay. Home win.

Tranmere have a huge prize in terms of the draw for the third round as they get to host one of the top sides in the country. Rovers are a League Two side, currently sitting in the top ten and knocking on the door of the playoff places. Tranmere’s current form is W2 D2 L2. They have needed replay in the first two rounds of this season’s FA Cup, both against non-league opponents. They were first held to a home draw against Oxford City and then against Southport. Tranmere won both replays away from home by a 2-0 scoreline. Tranmere are unbeaten in their last seven games on home soil (W3 D4) and they are going to need something special in this one. They have never been past the quarterfinals of the tournament but have improved from last season’s effort of a first-round exit.
Tottenham are one of the best sides in the country and they are looking so strong once again this term. It isn’t too likely that they will send out their strongest eleven of course. This will be the first meeting between the two sides since Spurs beat Tranmere 4-0 in a 2002 FA Cup tie. Spurs have won their last four meetings with Tranmere by a 4-0 scoreline. Spurs are W6 D2 in their eight previous encounters with Rovers. Tottenham have posted a W7 D1 L1 in their last nine games across all competitions and have suffered just one defeat in their last thirteen away games. They knocked out a League Two side (Newport County) on the way to their semi-final finish last season.
We can only see the one outcome here and that is, of course, an away win. The top-flight side should be able to get through this fairly comfortably and our prediction is Tottenham to win to nil at Preston Park for 5/6 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on January 2nd, 2019 at 6:35 p.m.)

Southport were one of two sides from the sixth tier of English football in the third round draw alongside Woking. They got themselves this replay following a 70th-minute equaliser at Preston Park. To their credit, the non-league side actually earned more possession in that game than Tranmere did. They are actually in good form, although it all has to be taken into context given their status in the game. Southport have suffered just the one defeat in their last ten games across all competitions. That loss was against Solihull Moors in the FA Trophy last weekend. However, their home form needs some examination. Southport have managed just one win at Haig Avenue all season in all competitions (D5 L4)
That lone home win was against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup first round. That’s it. They have also failed to hit the back of the net in three of their last five on home soil. So maybe they were stronger on the road? They have failed to score in three of their last five home games and they have earned two clean sheets in their last three home fixtures. They have hit the back of the net in each of their last three on home soil against fellow Merseysiders Tranmere. The last time that they made it to the third round of the FA Cup was in the 2014/15 season
Tranmere are unbeaten in their last five against Southport
The last four meetings at Southport have ended in drawn games
Both teams have scored in four of the last five meetings
This is a tricky little tie now for Tranmere who are the favourites to progress, but still, they have to get the job done away from home now against a non-league side. They suffered a League Two defeat last weekend, going down against Notts County. That actually left them on a three-match losing streak of away form in the division. Rovers are struggling for away form as they have lost four of their last five on the road (W1). They have though, scored exactly two goals in each of their last four away games.
Both teams have scored in all but one of Tranmere’s last five road fixtures. Tranmere have only managed to pick up the one clean sheet in their last five games in all competitions. Four of their last five away games have produced at least 2.5 goals. Their overall away form this season in all competitions is W3 D4 L6. In the last round of the FA Cup they collected a win against Walsall. Can they just turn out a professional performance and avoid a cup upset?
It is Tranmere that you would have to stick with to predict to get through this. Even though their away form is terrible, Southport’s form is pretty sad. With just one win at home behind them all season taking on a higher ranked team, they may come up short. Away win.

It was so near yet so far for Oxford City as they nearly pulled off a huge shock at Prenton Park in the first attempt at settling this tie. So now the sixth-tier side have to rally themselves as they get to take on their League Two opponents back on home soil. Can they take their second bite of the cherry? Read our Oxford City v Tranmere betting tips for more.
Oxford City 4/1
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on November 18th, 2018 at 10:18 p.m.)
Oxford City could almost taste the Cup upset that they had in their fingertips at Preston Park. They took the lead at 3-2 in the 82nd minute of the game and looked as if they were just going to hold on. But Tranmere got an equaliser just a minute from time. Kabongo Tshimanga was the hero of the day for the non-league side as he scored a hattrick in the tie. He is at 10/3 odds in the anytime goalscorer market for the replay* (betting odds taken on November 18th, 2018 at 10:26 pm).
Oxford City are W2 D2 L2 in their last six games across all competitions. They are on a six-match scoring streak though so that is a big positive for them. Both teams to score is at 4/5 odds for the replay* (betting odds taken on November 18th, 2018 at 10:26 pm). They made it to the second round proper of last season’s FA Cup as they suffered a 3-2 replay defeat against Notts County. Overall this season on home soil Oxford City’s form is W4 D2 L2 across all competitions, having scored in each of their last seven home games.
Tranmere used their get out of jail free card in that first leg to save their blushes in front of their home support. But this tie isn’t done and now it will get a little bit trickier as well away from home. They don’t have very good form out on the road either which may see punters oppose them. Tranmere are D1 L3 in their last four away games in all competitions. They have actually only won twice on their travels all season and so they still look to beat a little bit of a risk in this one.
In their last five away games across all competitions, Tranmere have conceded a total of fifteen goals. So defensive frailties are certainly there for them. Can Oxford City get at the Tranmere defence again? Last season in the first round proper Tranmere faced a replay but lost that heavily against Peterborough. Rovers were the underdogs on that occasion, having been a National League side. Over 2.5 goals is at 9/10 odds* (betting odds taken on November 18th, 2018 at 10:26 pm). Rovers may not be quite out of the woods just yet.
Oxford City still look to have a pretty good shot at making it to the next round. They are scoring well at home and certainly had Tranmere rattled. Back on home soil against a side who are not travelling well, they could take their chance.
