This is going to be a tough showdown in the final four for both of these. The pressure is one big-time now with a place in the final at stake. Both of these had tight fixtures in the last round, both of them only got through by a one-goal margin win. Who will find that winning touch? Read our Senegal v Tunisia betting tips for more.

Senegal were second-placed finishers in the group stage to Algeria. Their only loss in the group happened against the Algerians in the battle for top spot. That put them through to a round of sixteen tie against Uganda. They dug out a narrow 1-0 success thanks to one of their star players, Sadio Mane coming up with the only goal of the game. Then it was their fixture against Benin when another of their players from the English Premier League, Everton’s Idrissa Gueye delivered the only goal of the game.
So that is back to back 1-0 wins for them in the competition now. So while it has been fine margins for them, they have been digging out their rewards. Having those extra touches of quality makes a huge difference. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane is their top scorer with three goals in the tournament. It has been some fine form that the Lions of Teranga have put together since October last year. They have won 10 of their last 11 games now. During that extended streak of form, they have picked up a whopping nine clean sheets. It has been just one conceded in their five tournament fixtures.
The last meeting was at Afcon 2017 when Senegal won 2-0
Both teams have scored in one of the last seven meetings
Just one of the last seven meetings have gone over 2.5 goals
Senegal have won only one of the last eleven against Tunisia
The Eagles of Carthage had a much more comfortable time of things in their quarter-final tie. They were up against minnows Madagascar, who were the big underdog story of the entire competition. Tunisia romped to a 3-0 win. That was actually their first win of the tournament. They had drawn all three of their group stages games. Then in their round of sixteen tie, they had played out a 1-1 draw with Ghana after Tunisia had conceded in the 92nd minute of the fixture. The Tunisians collected the penalty shoot out win 5-4.
Tunisia are now currently on an eight-match undefeated streak of form (W4 D4). During that spell, they have taken the three clean sheets only, but two of those have come inside their last three games. This is the first time that they have been past the quarter-finals since their successful 2004 campaign. Their top scorer in this tournament with two goals is Youssef Msakni. It has been a strange campaign from them given the amount of draws that they have put up. Will that big quarter-final get them to a better place?
Senegal have some game-changers in their ranks. None better than Sadio Mane and in what is expected to be a tight and tense game that is likely to make a big difference. It will probably be low scoring but Senegal to win by a one-goal margin looks a pretty decent fit.

Benin managed to extend their stay at the Africa Cup of Nations with a penalty shoot-out success over Morocco in the last round. That sets them up with another tough task as they go up against Senegal. The Senegalese snaked past Uganda in their round of sixteen tie and they are strong favourites to progress further. An early goal from Liverpool’s Sadio Mane in their round of sixteen tie against Uganda saw Senegal move through to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Senegal are now the front runners for the title. In the group stage, they could only manage a second place finish behind Algeria, losing their big showdown against the Algerians. They were strong favourites to beat Uganda, but it was a tough game that they had in breaking them down at the end of the day.
Sadio Mane is the joint top scorer in the competition with three goals now and he is 6/5 in the anytime goalscorer market* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on July 8th, 2019 at 8:47 p.m.). Senegal have won six of their seven games played this year (L1). Looking back at their extended form they are W9 L1 in their last ten games. The only loss in that sequence was their group stage game against Algeria. Senegal have taken a total of eight clean sheets in their last ten. They have three in four games at the Cup of Nations. Senegal’s best-ever finish at the Cup of Nations was runners up in 2002.
In the head to head, Senegal are W3 D1 L0
The most recent meeting was a 2017 friendly which Senegal won 4-0
Two of the four previous meetings have been competitive
Senegal are W1 D1 from those two previous competitive fixtures
Benin were heavy underdogs for their round of sixteen tie against Morocco. But they dug in there, actually taking the lead in the fixture. They couldn’t close it out those and the tie ended up going to a shootout which Benin won 4-1. Benin only got out of the group stage as one of the best third-placed teams having finished behind both Ghana and Cameroon in Group F. Benin drew all three of their group stage games, so there has been a theme of them being hard to beat.
Benin are now on a seven-match undefeated streak of form, having drawn each of their last four. So will they be able to come up with a winning touch in this one? Or will they be happy enough to grind it out and take their chances on a penalty shoot-out? Benin were on a six-match scoring streak of form before having come up with just the one goal in their last three games. They have banked three clean sheets in their last six fixtures. Mickale Pote is still their top scorer in the tournament with two goals, which were scored in their opening 2-2 draw against Ghana.
Senegal has the touch of quality about them that should see them get through this fixture. Benin are proving to be a tough side to break down and they deserve some credit because they have been up against strong teams all through this tournament. But the end of the road for them may be here. Senegal to win to nil.

This is a round of sixteen tie between two group runners up. Uganda took second place behind host nation Egypt during their group stage campaign. For Senegal, it was second place behind Algeria. So which of them will make the most of this opportunity to move ahead? The winner faces either Morocco or Benin in the next round. Read our Uganda v Senegal betting tips for more.

It was second place then for Uganda in the group stage after posting a W1 D1 L1 record. They opened with a 2-0 win over DR Congo before adding to that with a point against Zimbabwe. Then in their final game, they did suffer a loss against Uganda but their four points from the other two games was good enough for them to lock down second place. The positive for them is that they do at least avoid a group winner in the round of sixteen. Will they be able to capitalize despite being underdogs?
Their loss against Egypt in the final group stage game snapped a six-match undefeated streak of form that they were on (W2 D4). It was only their second defeat in their last thirteen games played now. So they are a tough side to beat taking a W5 D6 L2 record in that sequence of games. They have been tight at the back recently. In those thirteen games, they collected a total of eight clean sheets. They will need that defence to be as tight as it can be in this one against Senegal.
The last meeting was a 0-0 draw in a 2017 friendly
Senegal are W2 D3 L0 in five previous games against Uganda
Two of the last three meetings have been drawn
Just one of the five previous meetings went over 2.5 goals
Senegal couldn’t do enough in the group stage to get the better of Algeria for top spot. They opened with a 2-0 win over Tanzania but then lost that big clash with the Algerians 1-0. With a comfortable win over Kenya in their final match, it secured second place and progress. That, of course, will have been the main goal. Senegal made the quarterfinals two years ago where they bowed out. They are still on the hunt for their first ever AFCON title.
They are a team in form with eight wins in their last nine games now. Each of their last three wins have all been with a clean sheet as well. In total Senegal have earned six clean sheets in their last eight games. So they are holding clear favouritism heading into this fixture, there’s no two ways about that. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane is their top scorer for the tournament so far with two goals.
Senegal are favourites here and they should have the extra touch of quality about them to find their way through. This may not be a high scoring fixture but the more likely of the two to come up with a winner is Senegal, who can win to nil.

These two are both sat on three points in Group C and so it is going to be a big showdown in the race for second place at the end of the day behind Algeria. So the tension is going to be high here because a loss and someone could be going home. A draw would give both a shot at getting to the next round. It’s all tense. Read our Kenya v Senegal betting tips for more.

Kenya’s campaign opened with a 2-0 reverse against Algeria, both goals have been conceded in the first half of the game. They then fought back from 2-1 down against Tanzania in their second game to pick up three points from a 3-2 success. So that leaves them with a shot at automatic qualification. They will need to win this game to move ahead of Senegal, a draw wouldn’t be enough to pull that off. Michael Olunga has scored two of their three goals at the tournament so far.
Kenya’s current form has been up and down and all over the place. They have actually only lost two of their last nine played, failing to score in both of those defeats. Trey are W5 D2 L2 in their last nine but are W2 D1 L2 in their last five. Just two of their last ten games have made it over the 2.5 goal line. Given the situation of things in this group, this may not turn out to be a high-scoring affair either. The Kenyans have conceded exactly two goals in both of their last two games played. Both teams have scored in just two for their last twelve games.
Senegal won both previous meetings between the two nations
They were both 3-0 successes in previous AFCON tournaments
The first was in 1992 and the most recent in 2004
The Senegalese have to play out a point in this one to secure a top-two finish in Group C. They banked a 2-0 opening win over Tanzania to get off to a flying start. But they could not then deliver a result against Algeria, losing 1-0 against the group leaders. So that does leave them with a bit of pressure but they are favourites to win this game. They are certainly carrying some strong enough for which suggests that they can complete the job.
Senegal were on a seven-match winning streak before their loss against Algeria in their second group stage game. That is their only defeat in their last nine games played, so certainly have form behind them. Senegal have conceded in just two of their last eight fixtures, so Kenya are likely to have a hard time breaking them down. Senegal have scored exactly two goals in three of their last four wins.
Senegal are the better of the two sides and it is hard to see them slipping up in this one. They are not going to find Kenya as tough going as Algeria were. Senegal to win to nil looks a pretty decent proposition to roll with.

Kenya are sat in third place in Group C of the Africa Cup of Nations and therefore have some work to do. They have to come out and take a win in this fixture to muscle their way into the automatic qualification spots. Senegal are second and need just a point, therefore, to lock down second place. This is going to be a tense one. Read our Kenya v Senegal betting tips for more.
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 28th, 2019 10:29 p.m.)
Kenya were up against it right from the off as they suffered a 2-0 opening defeat against Algeria. They then had a tense duel against Tanzania in their second match, netting an 80th-minute winner to take a 3-2 win. So that leaves them in needing to beat Senegal to jump above them into the top two. If this finishes as a draw, Kenya will finish third and then it will be a wait to see if they qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
The form of Kenya has been a little patchy this year. They are W2 D1 L2 in their five games now in the 2019 calendar year. They have scored in four of their last six, but they haven’t taken a clean sheet in any of their five games in 2019. Kenya have never been past the first round of the Africa Cup of Nations before. So they are on the brink of creating a nice bit of history for themselves.
Senegal have won both previous meetings with Kenya
Those were both 3-0 wins in previous AFCON tournaments
The first was in 1992 and then in a 2004 meeting
Senegal are one of the favourites to win the tournament outright and they are guaranteed to at least finish third in this group. To automatically qualify they will need a point in this one. They start three points behind leaders Algeria who are unlikely to be caught. So it’s all about Senegal avoiding defeat in this one. Senegal took a 2-0 win over Tanzania in their opening group stage match. But then came their setback as they lost against Algeria.
That basically is the result which has left them with a little bit of work to do. Senegal are in much better form than Kenya are. They were on a big seven-match winning streak before that loss against Algeria. During that seven-match winning streak (five of them in AFCON 2019 qualification) Senegal conceded just one goal. So it’s little surprise that they are going out in his one as the favourite in the match outright.
We don’t see Senegal getting tripped up in this one. That result against Algeria was a blip in their current form. They should be able to get back to their winning ways in this one, as Kenya aren’t a major threat in front of goal. Senegal to win to nil.

This is going to be some duel between these two. Basically, Senegal just to have to avoid defeat in this one to guarantee themselves a place in the next round. So that will be their target but it is going to be a thin line for them because a loss will send them home. Colombia have to come out and shoot for the victory in this one. A draw will only work for them if Japan loses against Poland and so they have to take matters into their own hands. Read our Senegal v Colombia predictions for more insights.
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 25th, 2018 at 11:43 p.m.)
Senegal still have some work to do and that will simply be trying to avoid defeat against Colombia. That is the result which will get them across the line and into the round of sixteen. Senegal opened their account with a 2-1 win over Poland despite being second best for most of that match. Then they twice took the lead against Japan but were pegged back on both occasions and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. All four matches so far in Group H at the World cup have seen at least three goals and we are are backing over 2.5 goals at bet365 for 21/20 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 11:43 p.m.). Senegal have not looked all that convincing at the back at any point but they have taken their chances pretty well going forward. No player for Senegal has managed more than one goal at Russia 2018 so far and they have Sadio Mane as a 2/1 anytime goalscorer* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 11:43 p.m.).
Senegal though have scored exactly two goals in each of their last three games played (W2 D1). Senegal have posted a W2 D1 L3 record in their last six games and they do only have to dig in for a draw here. So they are probably going to go out and focus on their defence and not push forward too much unless they have to. The concern for them will be that they have only taken the one clean sheet in their last four games. In the bet365 Asian Handicap a Senegal +0.5 is at 26/25 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 11:43 p.m.) and that means that if they get a draw or a win out of the game then you will be paid out as a winner.
Colombia knows what they have to do and that is win this game as no other result gets them through to the next round under their own terms. Their World Cup campaign opened in a disappointing fashion, going down to ten men within five minutes of their opener against Japan and ending up losing 2-1. So their backs were against the wall and that meant that they had to go out and perform when they met Poland in their second fixture in Group H. They did just that as they produced one of the best performances of any team at this tournament so far, running out 3-0 winners and suddenly looking like a bit of a force to be reckoned with. Both teams to score at bet365 is at 10/11 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 11:43 p.m.).
Radamel Falcao was on target in their big win over Poland and he is the 15/4 first goalscorer favourite at bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 11:43 p.m.). It is not as if Colombia put together a great qualification campaign to reach Russia Ro208 but they have lost just one of their last six now in a W3 D2 L1 record and overall have suffered just the two defeats in their last eight. So they are hard to knock over and they should be competitive in this one. Their situation against Poland brought the best out of them and the scenario is just the same for them here, they have to win and there is going to be no sitting back from them.
Senegal have met Colombia twice before and both of those were international friendly games. The first meeting ended in a 2-0 win for the South Americans while they played out a draw in their most recent meeting in 2011.
We were impressed by Colombia in their second match, a vast difference in performance level from that of their opener. If that is the kind of performance they can produce against Senegal then they are going to be alright and we can see them taking the win by a one-goal margin.

* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 21st, 2018 at 8:46 p.m.)
Japan sprung a huge surprise on Colombia in their opening game at the tournament, helped along by the South Americans going down to ten men after five minutes. Still, Japan stuck at their task and got maximum points to set themselves up with a chance of making it through to the round of sixteen. That is back to back wins that Japan have recorded now so their current form is improving as they had lost three in a row previous to that. Japan haven’t been in great form overall for a long time and they won’t have been heavily backed to have beaten Colombia.
But they got some early fortune and even when they were pulled back level in the game, they didn’t give up and kept pressing. So they actually get a bit of credit for their display and we are predicting some goals to flow in this one. Over 2.5 goals is at 7/5 odds with bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from June 21st, 2018 at 8:46 p.m.) and we are going with that because neither defence of these two looks particularly great and this could be an open game. Plus Japan are without a clean sheet in their last six games and they have conceded exactly two goals in four of their last five fixtures. They were heavy outsiders to make an impact in this group and yet here they are in with the chance of booking qualification.
Just like Japan, Senegal have won their last two matches after some indifferent form before that. Those are their only wins in their last six games. It was a strange match that Senegal were involved in against Poland, as the European side were much the better of the two but to their credit, Senegal’s defence did a great job in shutting down Poland hotshot Robert Lewandowski. But they gave up a lot of ball in the game so it will be interesting to see how they handle Japan and whether or not they can handle the pace of them. Senegal have hit the back of the net in four of their last six games, but they didn’t really pose much of an attacking threat against Poland, which is a strange thing to say as they won 2-1. Still, that was down to opportunistic moments for them. Things are little hard to judge in the correct score market but the 1-1 draw is short at 11/2 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from June 21st, 2018 at 8:46 p.m.) and it may just be safer going for an option of both teams to score in his match. There is huge pressure to be taken off the shoulders of one of these.
There is only brief history between these two who have met just twice before. They were friendly internationals in 2001 and 2003. Senegal won both of those with a clean sheet.
Senegal looks the sharper of the two, they are likely going to be able to get forward with a bit more purpose than Japan are. There is a huge incentive for both of these to push hard for three points to take all the pressure off themselves. Our betting tips for Japan v Senegal are leaning towards the Africans.

This is action from Group H at the 2018 World Cup and it should be a pretty interesting match to get stuck into. Will the strike power of Poland’s Robert Lewandowski be able to lift them past the powerful running game that Senegal will bring to the table? Read our Poland v Senegal betting tips.
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 15th, 2018 at 8:06 p.m.)
Poland had little trouble in reaching the 2018 World Cup finals as they topped their qualification group ahead of Denmark. It was a pretty easy group for them to handle and Robert Lewandowski was the joint top goalscorer in all of the 2018 World Cup qualification. He is the big goal scoring threat that is going to be appearing in this match and Lewandowski is trading at 11/4 odds with bet365 in the first goalscorer market* (betting odds taken on June 15, 2018 at 9:04 PM). Although he doesn’t get as much attention as Lewandowski, playing a big supporting role in Poland’s positive attack is Arkadiusz Milik and between them, they will pose a big threat to Senegal defence. Poland won two of their last three (D1) matches ahead of the 2018 World Cup and they scored a total of nine goals in those three matches.
One of our Poland v Senegal betting tips is to go over 2.5 goals on the game at 5/4 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on June 15, 2018 at 9:04 PM). That is going to be based on Poland’s attack and also the Polish defence which is prone to the odd wobble here and there. Also, seven of Poland’s last 10 fixtures have made it above the 2.5 goal-line. A couple of summers ago Poland put in the very solid Euro 2016 campaign reaching the quarter-finals where they were stopped in a penalty shootout against Portugal. So they have a bit of big tournament nous about them and do look stronger of these two sides. There will be a huge advantage gained in the qualification race in Group H for the winner of this fixture. Will Poland’s extra firepower get them across the line?
Senegal made their way to Russia 2018 winning their final qualification group, going unbeaten in their six matches. Senegal isn’t in bad form really as they have only lost one of their last 13 fixtures, which was a recent reverse in a friendly against Croatia. With that said however they have only produced one win in their last five played (D3 L1) and so they aren’t running in any winning form. Senegal have come up with just three goals in their last four games, failing to score in two of those notably in that sequence playing out a 0-0 draw against European minnows Luxembourg. There is naturally a lot of hype on their star player Sadio Mane but it has been a while since he netted an international goal, actually not having scored for Senegal since the beginning of September last year. So if you are looking for Senegal goal scoring options then Moussa Konate or Diafra Sakho may offer a bit better value. Senegal does not look a tremendous threat going forward and both teams not to score is at 10/11 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on June 15, 2018 at 9:04 PM).
This will be the first ever international fixture between Poland and Senegal.
This is a tricky game to call but we like the positive mindset and approach to games that Poland are likely to bring to the table. They have produced plenty of goals lately and the Africans may not have enough of a response to match up to them. Poland to win is our straightforward prediction for the Poland v Senegal match.
19th June 2018 / lee - Category: World Cup 2018 Betting
This should be an interesting friendly between two nations who are heading off to the World Cup in the summer. Croatia lost over the weekend in a game against Brazil but looked very competitive nonetheless. Senegal meanwhile will be looking to find their shooting boots ahead of some challenges at the World Cup which could even involve a game against England.
* (Betting Odds taken at 10:22 p.m. on June 4th, 2018)
Croatia then had a good workout on the weekend against Brazil who are the outright favourites to win 2018 World Cup. Croatia lost the game 2-0 but they did compete very well and looked strong at the same time and they were not afraid to mix it up physically. They have to deal with Argentina, Iceland and Nigeria in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup and they may well need to call on that physicality in a group which looks as if it could be tight and tense. Croatia does have plenty of creative talent in their ranks and they have plenty of experience in the midfield area which is where their real strength is.
This will be the first-ever meeting between Croatia and Senegal and Croatia with just be a little bit concerned that the goals have not been flowing for them recently having scored only one goal in their last four fixtures (W1 D1 L2). So is not been great and it does make sense to look under 2.5 goals at bet 365 for 4/7 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 10:22 p.m. on June 4th, 2018). On the other side of the fence Senegal have been struggling in front of goal too and with the Croatians looking stronger of the two units it could be worth backing Croatia to get a win on the board with a clean sheet.
With that in mind a Croatia 1-0 option in the bet 365 correct score market is at 9/2 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 10:22 p.m. on June 4th, 2018). Senegal played out a 0-0 draw against Luxembourg on the weekend as they opened their World Cup warm up. That will have been a bit of a disappointing result for them and following this they will get in a game against South Korea before heading to the World Cup. Senegal have drawn their last three games and they are unbeaten in their last 11 but have drawn seven of those.
They have failed to hit the back of the net in their last two games and you have to consider that they have failed to beat Luxembourg and Uzbekistan through the sequence of their last three fixtures. Senegal have to take on Poland, Columbia and Japan in Group H at the 2018 World Cup, and if they were to get through to the next round they will be playing (more likely than not) either Belgium in the round of 16. They have been struggling in their last three friendly matches against some largely weaker opposition, can they get some confidence behind them ahead of the World Cup?
Croatia actually put themselves about pretty well they did a good job in patches against Brazil (who just look to be a different level to everyone the moment), so the Europeans should be able to collect a friendly victory in this one and more likely than not, we would expect it to be with a clean sheet as well.
6th June 2018 / lee - Category: International Football Betting
Senegal will be taking with them to Russia, a squad which has plenty of players who are playing at club level across Europe’s top leagues. They can boast many a familiar name to English Premier League fans including arguably their star player, Liverpool Sadio Mane. Can they put it all together at the World Cup in the summer though and battle their way past some tricky opposition?
Senegal Nickname: Lions of Teranga
Head Coach: Aliou Cissé
FIFA World Ranking: 23
Senegal’s World Cup journey started in the CAF second qualification round where they were paired up against Madagascar. They were always strong favourites to get the win in the tie but they were shocked a little bit as the minnows produce a 2-2 draw on home soil against them, but Senegal were more than comfortable back on home soil in the second leg, winning the game 3-0 and therefore 5-2 on aggregate. That success put them through to the third qualification round which is the group stage phase.
The Lions had an easy time of things in their qualification group as they were facing up to Burkina Faso, Cape Verde and South Africa. Senegal went unbeaten through the campaign with a W4 D2 record being posted and they conceded just the three goals along the way, banking four clean sheets. They did actually lose their second game of qualification which was against South Africa however, the referee of that match subsequently received a lifetime ban for FIFA for “unlawfully influencing” the game in South Africa’s favour.
He had falsely given a handball penalty decision against Senegal who appealed and raised the red flag. The game was replayed and Senegal banked the win. They took a clean sheet in four of their six games. Cheikh N’Doye and Diafra Sakho finished as joint top scorers for them with a couple of goals each.
Senegal finds themselves in Group H at the 2018 World Cup and it is a draw that they wouldn’t be totally unhappy with really. The take on Colombia, Poland and Japan in what could end up being a competitive and evenly matched group. Certainly by the look of things Colombia are not going to be the force that they were four years ago in Brazil as they had their struggles through qualification and haven’t looked anything particularly threatening for the last couple of years. So that could open the door for Senegal. Senegal gets to take on Colombia in their final group stage match which could easily end up being a qualification decider between the two of them.
Senegal opens their campaign with their toughest game which is against Poland. The Polish have a pretty good squad and produced well at Euro 2016 and through World Cup 2018 qualification. Poland actually look the strongest side in the group, despite the bookmakers being most conceded about Colombia as they are the favourite to win Group H. But Senegal could well be in this and they are 11/8 odds at Ladbrokes* (betting odds taken at 10.44 p.m. on April 26th, 2018) To Qualify.
The African nation will believe in themselves enough to get the win over Japan so it does appear as if their crunch test will be in that final group game against Colombia. The key thing here could be the momentum that Senegal could carry through from beating Japan in their group stage match. It could be a crucial factor in Colombia go into that game having lost against Poland in their second match and not having momentum behind them. Senegal do have potential. You look at their squad and see the likes of Sadio Mane, Mame Biram Diouf and Oumar Niasse, all English Premier League forwards.
In midfield, they have more with Idrissa Gueye, captain Cheikhou Kouyate and Badou Ndiaye. They are perhaps a little inexperienced at the back in terms of top quality which could be the area in which they suffer the most at the World Cup. The other serious problem that Senegal have is that in the whole of 2017 they only faced fellow African sides and so have no kind of benchmark in handling tougher sides from other continents. They played out back to back draws in friendly matches in early 2018 against Uzbekistan and Bosnia & Herzegovina. It may all add up to them just missing out on progress and they are 8/15 odds* (betting odds taken at 7.30 p.m. on April 24th, 2018) to go home at the close of the group stage.

The will only be Senegal’s second time at the World Cup. Their previous appearance though was a success as they made it to the quarter finals at Japan/South Korea 2002. It was a campaign which saw them open their account with a huge underdog success as they beat the defending champions France 1-0. They followed that up with a draw against Denmark and then against Uruguay in a 3-3 thriller in their final group stage match to take second place in the group behind Denmark.
That was a huge success on their World Cup debut and it got better as well as they faced more European opposition in the round of sixteen. They went up against Sweden in the first knockout stage and after falling behind, Henri Camara levelled things up for them and the game went to extra time when Camara got his second of the match in the 104th minute and that was a Golden Goal which closed the game out.
So Senegal were a surprise name in the hat of the final eight at the tournament but their run came to an end in Osaka as they faced Turkey. The game ended in a 0-0 draw and this time around Senegal were on the wrong end of a Golden Goal as turkey snatched the win. Still, they went a lot further than was expected of them.
Can Senegal relieve the glory days of the 2002 World Cup? Maybe not this time around. Poland looked assured to be taking one of the qualification spots in Group H leaving a battle between Colombia and Senegal more likely than not for the second place. At the end of the day, there is going to be so much pressure on the game between the two of them in the final round of matches. Colombia, even though they are not great at the moment may have the strengths to battle their way through. Senegal’s defence may let them down at the end of the day and the group stage elimination on them still looks value.
