So the Dons have their work cut out for them in this tie. Extra pressure was put them over the weekend as they lost 1-0 away at St Mirren in the Scottish Premier. So that is back to back away defeats for the Dons in which they failed to score. They need a lift. At least they can look to their home form this season for a positive. They have played three and won three at Pittodrie.
In those three home games, the Dons have tallied 10 goals as well. On the flip side of that, they have conceded in all three of their home fixtures. Their Europa League campaign started in the first round with a 4-2 aggregate success of RoPS. They then thrashed Chikhura 6-1 on aggregate before this clash with Rijeka. It never looked to be an easy away first leg for them. At Pittodrie Aberdeen are unbeaten in their last nine Europa League home games, posting a W5 D4 record in that sequence. In all five of the wins in that sequence, they scored at least two goals.
Their first meetings happened in the 2015 Europa League
Aberdeen and Rijeka played out a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie
Things are now even in the head to head with one win each and a draw
That was a very good home result that Rijeka got in the first leg of this tie. Now can they follow it up and reach the playoff round? Unlike Aberdeen who started in the first round of the qualifiers, Rijeka came in at this third qualifying round. The Croatians have only suffered one defeat in their last five Europa League games played (W2 D2). Looking at their away form in the competition, they may have enough in the tank to stick in there.
They are W1 D4 L1 in their last six away Europa League games. They have failed to pick up a clean sheet in any of their last four away games in the competition, but are unbeaten in their last three on the road. Rijeka have played six games this season in all competitions and have taken a W4 L2 record from that. Both of the defeats in that sequence have happened away from home. Will they have enough to battle their way through this tie?
We are just a little uncertain about Aberdeen in this one. They haven’t quite hit their top gear yet and the visitors can turn up and just defend their way through this tie. This may be difficult for the Dons to Aberdeen but look the more likely to win this game.

It is a trip to Croatia for Aberdeen in the third qualifying round of the Europa League. The Dons have produced some unconvincing performances so far in this year’s campaign and they kick-off as underdogs in this first leg. The Croatians entered qualification in this round. Read our Rijeka v Aberdeen betting tips for more.
Rijeka were runners up (by a massive 25 points) to Dinamo Zagreb last season in the Croatian top flight. Rijeka are up and running for their new domestic season having played three games and posting three wins from that. They entered at this third qualifying round stage in last season’s qualifiers and went straight back out after a 2-1 aggregate defeat against Norway’s Sarpsborg 08.
Just back in the 2017/18 season, they made it to the Europa League group stage after having fallen in the Champions League playoff round. Rijeka finished third in the Europa League group stage. They are just W2 D2 L4 in their last eight European games.
The two met in the 2015 Europa League
Aberdeen won the first leg away from home 3-0
Then there was a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie
The Dons started in the first qualifying round where they met RoPS. It was back to back 2-1 wins that the Dons took in that tie to get through. Then after a 1-1 draw away at Chikhura in the first leg of their second qualifying round tie, the Dons smashed their opponents 5-0 back at Pittodrie. Aberdeen opened their domestic league campaign on the weekend with a late 3-2 success over Hearts.
So the goals have been coming from them but still, the Dons have not looked particularly sharp in front of goal for most of this European campaign. Aberdeen are now W4 D2 L2 in their last eight European fixtures. Out on the road, the stats for the Dons look a little bit worse. They are W3 D1 L5 in their last eight Europa League away fixtures. In that sequence of games, they failed to score in three matches, collecting two clean sheets. They have not banked a clean sheet in any of their last four on the road.
The Croatians should have the bit between their teeth on home soil for the opening act of this tie. The Dons haven’t looked all that convincing and therefore a narrow home win gets the call for us in this one.

Welsh club TNS will try and make some strides towards the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. After beating Europa in Extra time in the first qualifying round, they head out to Croatia for the first leg of this one to take on Rijeka, who upset the odds and beat Dinamo Zagreb to the league title there last season. Can the Welsh hang in there in a tough away game? Rijeka are 1/10 to take the win, with the draw at 8/1 and TNS at 12/1.

Tough game for the Welsh champions here as they head out to Croatia. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs and The New Saints are heavy underdogs. They were involved in a thrilling die in the first qualifying round. Having lost the first leg of their duel with Europa 2-1, they fought back brilliantly on the road in the second leg to put a 2-1 win on the board at 90 minutes to level the tie and take things to extra time, which they won. So that was a special night in Europe for them and there should be goals in this one. Under 3.5 at bet365 is a price of 8/11 which looks value because the Croatians could score well and TNS will be pleased with their work in the last round.
You could have a flutter on both teams to score at 9/4 with bet365 as well as TNS never managed a clean sheet in either of their first round ties. So there could be some good action here and Croatian champions Rijeka, who ended Dinamo Zagreb’s eleven-year reign last season, will be expected to win this one. In the bet365 correct score market a Rijeka 3-0 result is as short as 9/2 and that is just on the back of their goal scoring exploits last season. The Adriatic club have only faced one previous UEFA Champions League and that was all the way back in 1999/2000 and they won’t have fond memories of that, as they were hammered 6-1 on aggregate against Partizan. They are likely going to have a more comfortable time of things in this one.
Rijeka to win: This is no easy game away from home from the Welsh club and they are likely to fall to a defeat in this one. The home side may be some decent value to go and back to win this one to nil and the 2-0 correct score will have some appeal on them.
