So this is a clash between Premier League leaders and Championship leaders at the Etihad for a place in the quarter finals of the EFL Cup. Both teams have shown up tremendously well this term but still, it will be the Citizens who everyone will expect to muscle their way through. The way that they are playing, it is hard to see their winning streak coming to an end in this one. Manchester City are 1/7 odds on to win this fixture with the draw at 9/1 and Wolves at 18/1.
So the Citizens are big favourites on home soil and it’s easy to see why. They took a 3-0 home win over Burnley in the top flight on the weekend and that was their eleventh straight win this season in all competitions. Overall they are W12 D1 L0 for the season and it’s hard to see them being tripped up by side a tier lower than they are. They have scored at least two goals in each of their last six home games and over 3.5 goals in this is a short price of 4/7. Wolves are running in great form in the Championship and may just not even bother with this one. The Citizens have averaged over 3.5 goals per home game this season. The EFL Cup isn’t going to be the highest priority of course for the club and it’s not likely going to be a full strength side, but they have so much quality bit depth, they should still find it relatively easy. In the bet365 correct score market, a Manchester City 3-0 is the shortest priced option at 7/1, while a 2-0 win for them is an 8/1.
They may rotate their side of course but Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus are 9/4 joint first goalscorer favourites for the match. Both teams not to score in the match with bet365 is a price of 19/20. Wolves have done a fantastic job this season and have posted a great W9 D2 L2 record this season in the Championship. They have plenty of goals in them through Diego Jota and Leo Bonatini who are 3/1 and 7/2 respectively in the anytime goalscorer market and are defensively sound enough. But even they will recognise the tough task ahead of going to try and win at the Etihad at the moment. So far in the EFL Cup, they have beaten Premier League opposition in the form of Southampton this season (away) while beating Yeovil and Bristol Rovers along the way as well. Away from home across all comparison, Wolves have gone W5 D1 L2 this season but obviously, won’t have faced a test of this magnitude.
Manchester City to win: This should end up being another routine victory for the Citizens, who won’t even be too interested in this tournament at all. Wolves have big promotion goals this season from the Championship and will likely leave their focus there. Manchester City to win to nil.
