Leeds shook off some poor form at the end of the regular season to give themselves an advantage going into the second leg of this playoff semi-final. Leeds will head back to Elland Road with a 1-0 advantage in the tie now. Will that be enough for the Whites to hold on and make it through? Will Derby have enough about them to mount a comeback? Leeds News and Form

Leeds have a good advantage behind them now for this playoff tie. They badly needed that positive at Pride Park in the first leg of this semi-final too, as they fell out of form at the end of the regular season. Leeds took just the one point from their final four league games of the season. So they were struggling there and had lost back to back away games as well. Across the course of the regular season, Leeds posted a W14 D4 L5 record for the season at Elland Road. In their last five games of the regular season though they only posted a W2 D1 L2 record, taking one point from their final two games played.

Leeds averaged 1.65 goals per home game in the course of the regular season and had their defensive strengths as well. They conceded at an under a goal per game on average. In total Leeds earned a clean sheet in 39% of their home fixtures. They finished the regular season on a four-match scoring streak of form at Elland Road, and they were level at the halftime break in 12 of their home fixtures. Leeds scored 63% of their home goals in the second period of matches and they opened the scoring in 14 of their games. The Whites closed out the season with the fifth best home record of all teams in the Championship and the third-best defence overall.

Derby News and Form

The Rams were carrying great form through to the end of the regular season with them, so it was a little surprising that they let the home advantage slip in this tie. The Rams were on a four-match winning streak of form before the loss against Leeds in this first game of this tie. Now, what can they come up with on the road? Derby are unbeaten in their last three away games, drawing two of those. Across the course of the regular season, they came up with seven away wins in a W7 D7 L9 record. They lost three of their five away games against the top five finishers.

Derby averaged 1.26 goals per away game, conceding at an average of 1.5 per road game. They did struggle for their away clean sheets, taking one in just 13% of their road fixtures. Of the seven wins that they did take away from home during the season, five of them were by a one-goal margin. Five of their nine away defeats were by a one-goal margin only. Derby finished the season on a six-match scoring streak, but how costly will that blank at Pride Park be? Derby only managed to open the scoring in one away game. They are going to have their work cut out for them.

Leeds v Derby Tips & Odds

Leeds to win by a one-goal margin at 13/5
Under 2.5 goals at 10/11

Who will win – Leeds v Derby Predictions

The confidence that Leeds will have taken from their first leg success will have been huge. They can afford to be patient now and take the string out of this second leg. Another low scoring game could be on the cards. Leeds to win to nil.

Leeds v Derby Championship, 14th January 7.45pm

There is a big clash in the Championship on Friday night with the promotion-chasing Leeds and Derby going head to head in a heavyweight battle. Leeds start the game in fifth place and five points ahead of seventh-positioned Derby. So Leeds could give themselves  a huge cushion in the top six with a win in this one, while the Rams need to claw out a win which would see them move, even temporarily in the play offs spots. A lot at stake in his one and it could be a great match up to tune in to. Leeds are 8/5 for the win, with the draw at 2/10 and Derby are at 9/5 for victory.

Leeds v Derby Betting Tips

So a big game in store here and a valuable three points up for grabs in the fixture as well. Leeds won’t be happy with the recent fixture line up as they had to play their FA Cup third round tie against Cambridge on Monday night and then they go back into league action on Friday night. Not much of a rest for them then but boss Garry Monk obviously changed things up in terms of personnel for the Cambridge trip (which Leeds won). United are on a great stretch of form, five unbeaten in the Championship now in a W4 D1 record. They have lost only two of their last thirteen league matches now in a brilliant run of W9 D2 L2 record. So they are on fire and the reading is even better when you look at their home form. They have won five of their last six on home soil and have lost just one of their last ten Championship home fixtures.

Overall Leeds have gone W8 D2 L3 this season on home soil and their defence is pretty immense. They are on a four match clean sheet streak at home and have kept one in five of their last six on home soil. Newcastle are the only side to have netted at Elland Road in that sequence. Leeds have given up just the 9 goals on home soil this season and a Leeds to win to nil wager at William Hill is a good price of 3/1. Leeds lost 1-0 at Derby earlier in the season and it is probably worth going for the game to drift under 2.5 goals on this one, because Derby are not exactly a pushover either. In the anytime goalscorer market United have Chris Wood trading as 13/8 favourite to net. Leeds are unbeaten in their last three at home against Derby in the Championship (W1 D2).

So this is probably going to be tight and both teams to score at William Hill is a price of even money. The Rams need a win here to really boost their play off chances. They are carrying terrific form as well. They were on a ten match unbeaten streak in the Championship (W8 D2) before they slipped to a defeat to Norwich on January 2nd. So will they be able to bounce back from that away defeat? The Rams have gone W5 D3 L4 away from home this season and that loss at Norwich snapped a four match unbeaten streak (W3 D1) from them on the road. So they are in good form and they have still kept seven clean sheets in their last nine Championship matches. In the correct score market at 1-1 return is a strong price of 5/1 or you can take a 6/1 quote on either Leeds or Derby running out with a 1-0 win. This Is going to be tight tense and enthralling.

Who will win – Leeds v Derby Predictions

A good match up to come between two very good defences. There really isn’t too much to chose between them and Leeds have been terrific on home soil lately which suggests that they are not going to slip up in this one. Derby don’t give much away at the back and are the lowest scoring side in the top 16 in the Championship at the moment. Under 2.5 goals all the way and a 1-1 correct score is screaming appeal.
