Italy v Bosnia Euro 2020 Qualifiers Preview, 11th June 7.45pm

Italy are ticking over nicely in their Euro 2020 qualification campaign. It has been three wins from three and are yet to concede a goal in the group. Next for them comes the challenge of Bosnia who suffered a pretty big setback on the weekend with a 2-0 defeat in Finland. Can Italy keep their strong momentum going? Italy News and Form

It is a four-match winning streak that Italy find themselves on at the moment. On the weekend they collected a 3-0 success out in Greece making it three wins from three in their Euro 2020 qualification group. Across their three qualifiers so far Italy have scored 11 unanswered goals. The defensive output of Italy has been superb, really going back to their Nations League campaign. They have not conceded a single goal in any of their last six games played now and have earned one in seven of their last eight. So that is some impressive output and it does hint at them being on a pretty good trajectory.

To be realistic this is a pretty easy qualification group that they have in front of them and it would be a major surprise if they didn’t win it. The Italians do look a little bit as if they are still trying to find their best side but with a goal in two of their three European championship qualifiers so far, Nicolo Barella may be worth considering in the anytime goalscorer market. Just looking back at their game against Greece on the weekend, Italy took  70% possession and produced 10 shots on target in the fixture.

Italy v Bosnia Head to Head

This will be the first competitive meeting between the two nations in Italy

Bosnia News and Form

Bosnia have earned four points from their opening three Euro 2020 qualification matches. Considering the difficulty of this away game they will probably be happy with just picking up a point out of it. They started their qualification campaign with a 2-1 home success over Armenia, before being held to a 2-2 draw at home against Greece. But then they had a pretty major collapse on the weekend as they suffered a 2-0 reverse out in Finland. This trip to Italy will be their toughest fixture of the entire qualification campaign.

Bosnia have won only one of their last five fixtures played, which was their success over Armenia (D2 L2). Bosnia have also been having a bit of trouble putting the ball in the back of the net as they have failed to score in four of their last seven fixtures now. They are also winless in their last four away games, losing two of those. Since a 2-1 success in Northern Ireland during the Nations League group stage, Bosnia are on a four-match away streak without a goal having been put on the board.

Italy v Bosnia Tips & Odds

Italy to win to nil at 10/11
Italy 2-0 correct score at 9/2

Who will win – Italy v Bosnia Predictions

Italy are the clear favourite in this fixture and should be a fairly comfortable evening for them. It is hard to see after their loss in Finland, just how Bosnia are going to come up with anything to challenge the Italians. Italy to win to nil.

Greece v Italy Euro 2020 Qualifiers Preview, 8th June 7.45pm

This is a big game at the top of Group J of Euro 2020 qualification. Italy are leading the way with maximum points recorded after two games. But Greece are just two points back of them after a positive start, so they would have the chance to move top if they could capitalise on home advantage. Greece News and Form

Greece have collected four points from their opening two games of Euro 2020 Qualification. They started with a 2-0 win in Liechtenstein before holding out for a very good point away at Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their form over their last nine matches shows that they are a very patchy side because it reads W4 D1 L4. Their win over Liechtenstein at the start of this campaign in their only win in their last four played.

They have scored in four of their last five games and in three straight fixtures heading into this one, so that will be a positive for them. They have won two of their last three home games as well, both 1-0 victories over Hungary and Finland back in the Nations League. Greece finish third in their League C Group 2 Nations League campaign, comfortably above bottom side Estonia, but behind Finland and Hungary. The Greeks produced just the four goals in their six games.

Greece v Italy Head to Head

Greece earned a 1-1 draw in their last home game against Italy (2008)
Italy won their other meeting with Greece 4-0

Italy News and Form

Italy have fired off back to back wins at the start of their Euro 2020 qualification campaign. They recorded a solid 2-0 home win over Findland before beating Liechtenstein 6-0. That makes it three straight wins by Italy at the moment then and four in their last five played (D1). So things seem to be improving for them after having missed out on reaching last summer’s World Cup. Their Nations League campaign, where they finished sandwiched between Portugal and Poland, was one where they were clearly looking at rebuilding still.

The defence of the Italians has seen the most notable improvement. They have not conceded in any of their last five games played now. They don’t look like being a prolific team in front of goal themselves though and this could be a low scoring affair. Italy are strong favourites to book the group win and a win in their first away game would nudge them a little bit further down the path to pulling that off. Italy will have a home game against Bosnia and Herzegovina following this.

Greece v Italy Tips & Odds

Italy to win by a one-goal margin at 12/5
Italy to win to nil at 13/8
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 4th, 2019 at 9:22 p.m.)

Who will win – Greece v Italy Predictions

Greece may not have enough about them as an attacking unit to really rattle Italy. The Italians are progressing, not rapidly, but progressing nonetheless and will be hard for the hosts to break down. Italy to win to nil looks to be a decent enough fit.

Italy v Finland Euro 2020 Qualifiers Preview, 23rd March 7.45pm

After their a major mishap of not qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, Italy will be looking to put in a confident and strong display at home against Finland on the weekend. This is the start of their Euro 2020 qualification campaign and not the kind of game that they will want to let points slip in. Read our Italy v Finland betting tips for more.

Italy v Finland Preview

What next for the Azzurri? After missing out on World Cup 2018 they have been going through a transitional period. They don’t look to have things figured out quite yet. In the Nations League last year they took second place behind group winners Portugal, with Poland getting relegated from group. In their two home games, Italy drew with both of them and only managed to pick up two goals in their four fixtures in the group. Scoring has become a bit of a problem for Italy as they have not managed to score more than one goal in any of their last eight international fixtures.

It has happened once in their last 10 only. Each of their last seven international fixtures have ended up under 2.5 goals and Italy have returned just three goals in their last five played. Each of Italy’s last four home games have ended in a draw. They just need to get some winning momentum going and in a relatively easy group here against Finland, Greece, Armenia, Lichtenstein and their strongest contenders for qualification Bosnia and Herzegovina, they should find their feet.

Finland will be hoping to collect a point on their trip to Italy in their Euro 2020 qualification opener. The Eagle Owls have lost three of their last four games though, and each of those were outside of Finland. Finland only managed to produce one goal in a four-match sequence. That one goal, however, was enough to give them an international friendly victory over Sweden back in January. Before that slump in form, Finland was on a great five-match winning streak.

Four of those were in their Nations League campaign as they raced out of the blocks boasting four straight victories. They lost their last two in the group but that didn’t matter because they had done enough by then to earn promotion up to League B. They did suffer to defeats away from home in the group at Hungary and Greece, Finland failing to score in either of those. This is clearly a step up in opposition for Finland, but they may fancy their chances with a good strong defensive display.

Who will win – Italy v Finland Predictions

Even though the form of Italy hasn’t been great they have been facing stiff opposition than Finland recently. This may be a closer game than expected because the visitors may not be quite the walkover they are expected to be. Still, Italy to win to nil at 8/11 odds has the appeal* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on March 19th, 2019 at 3:50 p.m.)

Euro 2020 qualifying – predictions & betting odds

International Football Betting

The 2020 European Championships will certainly bring something a little different to the table. That is because for the first ever it will be hosted across numerous different nations. Twelve of them in fact. So Euro 2020 is going to be quite the spectacle with Wembley playing host to the semi-finals and the final.

The Euro 2020 draw was made in early December 2018 for the qualification process. Here we take a look at the road ahead as the participating nations try and make it to Euro 2020.

Euro 2020 Winner Odds*

France 4/1
Spain 6/1
Germany 6/1
Belgium 15/2
England 8/1
Italy 14/1
Portugal 16/1
Netherlands 16/1
Croatia 16/1

Nations League Influence

The bad news for reigning European Champions Portugal is that there is no automatic place at Euro 2020. It has to be earned. All 55 nations will go through the qualification process with the top two from each of the ten groups booking an automatic spot at the Finals. That leaves four spots up for grabs. Those will be filled through a play-off format for teams qualifying through the back door of the Nations League.

A team winning a Nations League Group (Scotland for example) automatically earn a place in the playoffs, if they don’t happen to qualify automatically from their Euro 2020 Qualification Group. There is one separate playoff tournament (consisting of four teams each) for each of the four leagues from the Nations League. The mini-playoff tournaments will produce the last four Euro 2020 finalists.

The other influence that the Nations League had was for each of the four group winners from League A. Those winners, Switzerland Portugal, Netherlands and England (who will be appearing in the 2019 Nations League Finals), started the Euro 2020 qualification draw in a separate pot. That means that each of them go in a qualification group consisting of five teams. The other six qualification groups all house six teams each. That’s to ensure that the dates stay free so the four of them can play the Nations League Finals. It’s basically to save those four nations from extra workload.

Group A

England 1/6
Czech Republic 6/1
Montenegro 12/1
Bulgaria 16/1
Kosovo 25/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

England go in a group of five then and they are 1/6 favourites to claim the win in this group* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm). It’s not too hard to see why really. There is really little to oppose them going forward. The Three Lions should be strong enough from their home performances alone to get the job completed. After their run to the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup this is still about development and progress for Gareth Southgate’s men. They are generally more than reliable enough in major tournament qualifying to back. It looks like a straight duel between Montenegro and the Czech Republic for the second spot. Both finished third in their respective World Cup 2018 qualifying groups and in the Nations League, they both managed to retain their respective statuses in League 2 and League 3 respectively.

Group B

Portugal 4/6
Serbia 5/2
Ukraine 4/1
Lithuania 66/1
Luxembourg 250/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

It is of course highly unlikely that Lithuania or Luxembourg are going to be anywhere near the top two at the end of this group. Aside from that, there are three teams going to be trying to squeeze into two slots. Portugal are the outright favourites at 4/6 to win the group* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 8:11 pm) but Serbia and Ukraine are threats here. Ukraine particularly had a strong nations league while Serbia moved up a tier in winning their group. Serbia won their World Cup 2018 qualification group over Ireland, Wales and Austria. This is going to be tough, but Portugal should have the quality to top out the group, but the other two will make it very interesting.

Group C

Germany 4/9
Netherlands 13/8
Northern Ireland 33/1
Belarus 100/1
Estonia 200/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

Old rivals Netherlands and Germany will get to meet each other again, just as they did in the Nations League recently. It was the Dutch who came out on top in that particular scrap as they took a very good four points off the Germans on their way to winning the group. Germany have been in a bit of a decline after such a poor 2018 World Cup too. Still, it is Dutch are who are 13/8 second favourites to win this group* (betting odds taken from Betfred on December 11th, 2018 at 8:11 pm) behind the Germans despite all that. There’s a tough battle then for Northern Ireland ahead to try and muscle their way through.

Group D

Switzerland even money
Denmark 6/5
Ireland 11/2
Georgia 200/1
Gibraltar 1000/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

Straight off the bat, it is a three-way battle for the top two spots in this group. Of the three it is Ireland who are the least likely to get automatic qualification here. They have been having a tough time of things and while they will have a new manager for this qualification process, there appears to be a long way back for them after suffering relegation in the Nations League. It’s actually tough to split Switzerland and Denmark here in the race for top spot. We would probably just shade the extra strengths and depth of the Swiss. They should have extra confidence being a Nations League finalist.

Group E

Croatia 4/9
Wales 3/1
Slovakia 8/1
Hungary 20/1
Azerbaijan 66/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

The Welsh won’t be too unhappy with what is in front of them in Euro 2020 qualification. While there are always tricky away games in Europe to deal with, in this case, Hungary and Slovakia. However, the Dragons should be competitive enough to get into the picture for the top two here. Croatia, the 2018 World Cup runners-up are the 4/9 favourites to clinch the group* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 8:11 pm). It’s hard to see any of the others really doing enough to prevent them from doing so at the end of the day.

Group F

Spain 2/9
Sweden 13/2
Romania 11/1
Norway 12/1
Faroe Islands 50/1
Malta 1000/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

This looks on paper at least, to be a pretty straightforward affair to predict. Spain are the red-hot odds-on favourites to claim the top spot. Realistically only Sweden are going to be strong enough to mount any kind of threat against them, but even with that said it’s hard to see them doing enough to stop Spain topping the pile. Frankly, Norway, Romania and Sweden all look as if they are capable of taking points off of each other here. But the Swedes are the ones who look the most likely to book themselves a top two finish.

Group G

Poland 11/10
Austria 6/5
Slovenia 11/1
Israel 14/1
Macedonia 50/1
Latvia 100/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

You can chop the bottom three in the Group G winner market out of the equation. When while Slovenia are likely to be a difficult side to beat on home soil, they don’t look a big enough of a threat to go and steal a top two place from either Poland or Austria. So if it boils down to a contest between those two for top spot who gets it? Frankly, because Poland were surprisingly poor in the Nations League it may be worth opposing them in favour of Austria at 6/5 odds* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 8:11 pm)

Group H

France 1/6
Turkey 13/2
Iceland 10/1
Albania 50/1
Moldova 100/1
Andorra 1000/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

It would surprise absolutely no one if France go out and win this group. That looks a pretty dead-cert if ever there was one. But what about behind them in the race for the second spot? Iceland have had a really tough year and the side that you saw at Euro 2016 and which qualified for the 2018 World Cup has fallen apart. Turkey are so unpredictable of a side though it’s hard to throw a lot of confidence at either of them. Just because Turkey have better depth available to them and will be difficult opponents on home soil, they should join France in the top two.

Group I

Belgium 2/9
Russia 7/2
Scotland 14/1
Cyprus 80/1
Kazakhstan 150/1
San Marino 500/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

What a difficult group this is going to be for the Scottish. They managed to win their Nations League group so even if they don’t get in the top two here they will have a Euro 2020 playoff spot. That is because of their Nations League performance. That may turn out to be a blessing for them. Belgium should storm away with the group win in his one and even though Russia aren’t much more than average, they should produce enough to lock down a top-two finish.

Group J

Italy 1/3
Bosnia 4/1
Greece 9/1
Finland 16/1
Armenia 100/1
Liechtenstein 200/1
* (betting odds taken from Coral on December 11th, 2018 at 10:52 pm)

Italy are still rebuilding, looking at their youth and a whole new system under Roberto Mancini. We saw glimpses of better things from them at the Nations League and while they aren’t a major force at the moment, this is an easy group for them to win. Bosnia won their Nations League group and could throw down a bit of a challenge. Either way, the top two should be between those two. There aren’t enough goals among the other group occupants to expect anyone else to come through and upset the apple cart. As with most of the Euro 2020 qualification groups, it looks pretty predictable.

Italy v Portugal Nations League Preview, 17th November 7.45pm

Nations League A3 leaders Portugal have the chance to close out the group and secure qualification to the Nations League Finals on the weekend. All that they need out of this game is the one point to get the job complete. It leaves Italy facing a must-win situation in a tough away game. That would keep their hopes of winning the group alive, but would still need a favour from Poland when they take on Portugal in the final group stage match. Italy 23/20
Draw 11/5
Portugal 5/2
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on November 13th, 2018 at 3:08 p.m.)

Italy News and Form

The Italians have to come out and produce a victory in this one. That is the only way the window stays open for them to potentially win the group. Even if they win they would need help from Poland in the last group game against Portugal. The thing about this for Italy, in what is their final game of the group, is that Poland have already been relegated so they have nothing to lose going into this fixture. The Italians are only W1 D2 L1 in their last four games, with the win in that sequence being a 1-0 success over Poland in their last Nations League fixture. That is just one of two wins that the Italians have collected in their last eleven games now (D5 L4).

Before that 1-0 success over Poland last month, they had not banked a clean sheet in eight games. In the correct score market the 1-1 draw is the shortest-priced option at 5/1 odds* (betting odds taken on November 13th, 2018 at 4:05 pm). There is a bit of a trend with that option too as Italy have drawn each of their last five home games, three of those being by the 1-1 scoreline. The Azzurri have come up with only the two goals in their last four games but they have a bit of form going against Portugal. The Italians have won their last five home games against Portugal without conceding a goal. They are unbeaten in eight overall on home soil against Portugal.

Italy v Portugal Head to Head

Portugal have won the last two meetings by a 1-0 scoreline
Italy lead the overall head to head 17-7 with 2 draws
The Italians have won their last three home fixtures against Portugal
Italy have not conceded in any of their last three home games against Portugal
Both teams have scored in just two of the last seven meetings

Portugal News and Form

Portugal have a little bit of form behind them, having won their last three games and they are in pole position to win this Nations League group. They only need to get a point out of this to secure that. Portugal have suffered just the one defeat in their last eleven games so have proven to be a very difficult side to beat. The loss in that sequence was against Uruguay back at the 2018 World Cup in the round of sixteen. Cristiano Ronaldo has not appeared in any Nations League game yet for them. Despite that, the reigning European champions have come up with exactly three goals in their last two games. Both teams to score is at even money odds* (betting odds taken on November 13th, 2018 at 4:05 pm)

Portugal have scored in each of their last nine games so have that positive streak going for them. Defensively they have conceded in four of their last five games though, the only clean sheet in that sequence coming in their Nations League 1-0 win over Italy. Over 2.5 goals is at 11/8 odds* (betting odds taken on November 13th, 2018 at 4:05 pm) which is worth a look as Italy actually have to come out and push for the victory. Portugal took a 3-2 win out in Poland in their one away game in the group so far.

Who will win – Italy v Portugal Predictions

The draw has the most appeal out of the match outright options and that is because of the situation that Portugal find themselves in. Portugal have some decent enough form behind them and they look strong and organised enough to go and earn themselves a point against an Italy side still trying to find themselves.

Poland News and Form

Poland’s Nations League hopes took a bit of a hit on Thursday as they suffered a 3-2 home loss against Portugal. So now they have to come up with a fightback performance here. They are level on one point with Italy so the loser of this game is going to be the favourite for relegation. The winner will put themselves to within two points of group leaders Portugal.

Poland opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw out in Italy but they need to make it count here in grabbing three. Poland was defensively vulnerable against the Portuguese, but Italy aren’t as big of a threat and a Poland 1-0 correct score has some appeal at 13/2 odds* (betting odds taken on October 12th, 2018 at 1:27 pm).

Poland’s form is now at W1 D2 L3 in their last six games so they need a pickup. That is D1 L1 in their last two home games now. The thing about Poland is that they have the goals in them and they have scored in eight of their last nine games played.

So they have the potential, especially through Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern Munich man wasn’t on the scoresheet against Portugal but he is always worth a punt given his record at this level. He is at 5/4 in the anytime goalscorer market* (betting odds taken on October 12th, 2018 at 1:27 pm). Can they produce the response they need?

Italy News and Form

It is not as if they are facing up to an Italy side who are in hot form. They played out a draw with Ukraine on Wednesday in a friendly fixture. That’s is just a D2 L1 record in their last three and looking back further they have won just one of their last nine games (competitive and friendly combined).

That’s a poor run of form and there are two clear problems with them. Notably, their defence is struggling badly with one clean sheet in their last eight played. The 1-1 draw with Ukraine means that they have scored more than one goal in just one of their last thirteen games.

So problems at both ends and new boss Roberto Mancini has a big job on his hands. They opened the nation’s League with that home draw against Poland having equalised late on from a penalty kick. Then they lost 1-0 out in Portugal in their second match.

So there’s really no form at all there from them and there is every chance that they are going to be vulnerable away from home in this fixture. Under 2.5 goals is at 8/13 odds and once again is a great fit for Poland v Italy betting tips* (betting odds taken on October 12th, 2018 at 1:27 pm).

Poland v Italy Head to Head

The two played out a 1-1 draw in their first game in the Nations League and that leaves things even with one win each and the draw in their last three games. Both teams have scored in just two of the last seven meetings.

Who will win – Poland v Italy Predictions

We are going with Poland to collect a home win and produce a response to their misfire against Portugal. This is the final home game and really have to throw everything at this to avoid relegation. Home win.

Italy v Ukraine International Friendly Preview, 10th October 7.45pm

There is an interesting friendly coming up in midweek with Italy looking to pull themselves out of a slump to get themselves a win. They need one to turn the corner. Draw 23/10
Ukraine 9/2
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on October 7th, 2018 at 4:35 p.m.)

Italy News and Form

The Italians continue to struggle for a bit of form. They have collected just the one win in their last five games played now which was a friendly success over Saudi Arabia. They are already struggling in the new Nations League having been held at home by Poland in their opener, before losing in Portugal. That is a four-match winless streak that they are running on now.

That aforementioned win over Saudi Arabia is their only game in their last six in which they have managed to score more than one goal in. Under 2.5 goals is at 4/6 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from October 7th, 2018 at 4:35 p.m.). That has appeal in what is, after all, just a friendly meeting. The biggest question is just whether or not Italy really have that offensive output in them really.

Ukraine News and Form

Ukraine are in great form at the moment with a three-match winning streak going. They have lost just one game since the start of September last year in a solid W7 D2 L1 record over ten games. They haven’t really been tested by a top side for a while though. Not since meeting Croatia back in October last year in the World Cup qualifiers. That ended in a 2-0 loss for them. The 1-1 correct score at 11/2 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from October 7th, 2018 at 4:35 p.m.) does have good appeal.

They have West Ham forward Andriy Yamoklelko as a 13/5 anytime goalscorer option* (Betting Odds were taken from October 7th, 2018 at 4:35 p.m.). He and Yevhen Konoplyanka both got a brace in Ukraine’s last friendly fixture, a 4-1 win out at Albania at the start of June. In the UEFA Nations, they posted back to back wins over the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Italy v Ukraine Head to Head

There isn’t much history between the two sides. From what there has been Italy are 4-0 up with the one drawn match. Their last meeting was a 2011 friendly which Italy won 2-0 away. Of the five previous meetings, Ukraine has managed to score just the one goal.

Who will win – Italy v Ukraine Predictions

We are going to go with the draw in this one because Italy are still in a bit of a transition at the moment. They are taking on Ukraine who have collected a three-match winning streak and that suggests that the visitors could hold themselves.

International Football Betting

Portugal v Italy UEFA Nations League Preview, 10th September 7.45pm

This should be a fascinating contest between two sides who look to be evenly matched. Portugal, who are the reigning European Champions look to try and make the most of things without Cristiano Ronaldo in the squad. Italy are under new leadership with Roberto Mancini taking charge. Can his somewhat inexperienced side make a positive start to the Nations League? Read our Portugal v Italy betting tips for more.

Portugal v Italy Betting Odds*

Portugal 6/5
Draw 2/1
Italy 2/1
* (Betting Odds were taken from Paddy Power on September 7th, 2018 at 5:39 p.m.)

Portugal News and Form

Portugal make their entrance in the Nations League and they will be looking to make the most of home advantage here. Portugal won nine of their ten matches during World Cup 2018 qualification and made it out of their group stage at the tournament itself in the summer.

They were stopped in the round of sixteen by Uruguay. Cristiano Ronaldo asked not to be picked for this current squad, perhaps dialling back international duties a bit to lengthen his club career. Settling in at new club Juventus could be a factor too.

So they will be without their talisman and that leaves goal scoring responsibilities heavily on the shoulders of Andre Silva who is the only man in their current squad to have made it to double figures for the nation.

We don’t see this being a high-scoring game and are looking under 2.5 goals for 4/7 odds* (Betting Odds were taken on September 6th, 2018 at 10:30 p.m.). Portugal have lost just two matches since the end of August 2017 and they played out a 1-1 friendly against Croatia in midweek as a warm-up for this one.

Italy News and Form

The Italians are a team in transition after having failed to make it to the 2018 World Cup. They have a new head coach in former Man City manager Roberto Mancini. While there are some usual faces operating across their back line, he has selected a pretty inexperienced midfield. So this new project may take a bit of time to come together and in midweek they were held to a draw at home by Poland in their Nations League opener.

Chelsea’s Jorginho got Italy’s equaliser from the penalty spot after his error which led to Poland’s first-half goal. Really Italy didn’t look much better than they did in World Cup 2018 qualifying. Mancini had selected Mario Balotelli up front, his first competitive game for his country since 2014.

Italy really are crying out for a world class striker who can consistently stick the ball in the back of the net. In just one of their last eleven games have they managed to score more than one goal in a game. Italy have collected only the two victories in their last eleven games as well (D5 L4) so they are struggling. In the Paddy Power correct score market a Portugal 1-0 option is an appealing 5/1 price* (Betting Odds were taken on September 6th, 2018 at 10:30 p.m.).

Portugal v Italy Head to Head

In the last five meetings between Portugal and Italy, it has been the Italians who have been bossing things. They have won four (L1) of those five meetings including their last visit to Portugal back in 2004. Their most recent clash was in the summer of 2015 when Portugal took a win.

Who will win – Portugal v Italy Predictions

Italy’s midfield is quite inexperienced and therefore we have to stick with a home win in this one. Portugal may just be able to find an edge and keep what has been a low-scoring Italy at arm’s length. Our Portugal v Italy betting tip is a home win by a one-goal margin.

Italy v Poland UEFA Nations League Preview, 7th September 7.45pm

After missing out on the World Cup 2018 Italy looks to rebuild towards better times under new head coach Roberto Mancini. This is League A Group 3 action from the UEFA Nations League, group which also contains European champions Portugal. Can the Azzurri pull themselves together or will group underdogs Poland be able to pull off a positive result? Read our Italy v Poland betting tips for more.

Italy v Poland Betting Odds*

Italy 8/11
Draw 13/5
Poland 15/4
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on Setpember 4th, 2018 at 6:35 p.m.)

Italy News and Form

Italy have former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini at the helm now as they looked to rebuild after a missed World Cup opportunity. There is a pretty inexperienced side which has been called up for this game and their match on September 10th against Portugal in the Nations League. Their midfield has just 34 caps between them. The defence is experienced but also mostly on the wrong side of 30 and the other issue that they have is that they are desperate for a consistent goal scorer at this level. Italy have only managed to score more than one goal in a game in just one of their last eleven fixtures (a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia). We are looking under 2.5 goals at 8/15 odds* (Betting Odds were taken on September 4th, 2018 at 6:35 p.m.)

So there are problems there for them to sort out and these next two fixtures will give a good indication of where they are at. They are going with Mario Balotelli and Ciro Immobile to deliver for them, with the former holding 14 goals in 35 caps. Their last game was a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands back at the start of June. for this one. Italy’s form since the beginning of September 2017 is W3 D4 L4 so they definitely need some upswing and positivity to come. In the bet365 correct score market an Italy 1-0 option is at 4/1 odds* (Betting Odds were taken on September 4th, 2018 at 6:35 p.m.) and appeals for the future.

Poland News and Form

Poland strung together a good World cup 2018 qualification campaign but when it came to the big tournament, they fell really flat. They didn’t play well at all during the World Cup, not getting any quality service to big striker Robert Lewandowski which is criminal when you have a striker of his quality up front. Lewandowski is at 2/1 odds in the anytime goalscorer market for the game* (Betting Odds were taken on September 4th, 2018 at 6:35 p.m.). He was the top goalscorer in UEFA during the World Cup 2018 qualification campaign with sixteen goals. When they put it together they look pretty handy as we saw at Euro 2016.

In 2018 they are now W3 D1 L3 so a mixed bag of results there although interestingly they have only met one European nation since winning their final three World Cup qualification matches (scoring thirteen goals in those three games). That was a friendly against Lithuania in June, their only European opponent in their last nine games. It means they are on a four-match winning streak against European opponents. It may remain a mystery what happened to them at the World Cup. Their last fixture was a 1-0 win over Japan in their final group stage match but was too little too late from them at that point.

Italy v Poland Head to Head

The last time Italy and Poland met was in 2011 for a friendly match which Italy won 2-0. The Italians have lost just one of their last six games against Poland and overall hold a W3 D2 L2 record against them. This will actually only be the third friendly between them, the head to head from that standing at one win each.

Who will win – Italy v Poland Predictions

Italy have to prove something in this one, they have to be fired up for it a bit. Poland are generally good in these types of competitive matches, as they were in World Cup 2018 qualification. However, they were poor at the World Cup itself and we are going to back Italy to edge the victory.

UEFA Nations League A Group 3 Preview & Winner Odds

International Football Betting

Italy, Portugal and Poland League A Group 3 Preview

This is another great looking group for the Nations League. Italy will be looking to regain some stature here after their misery of failing to reach the World Cup Finals. They will be seriously aiming to prove themselves here in a challenging group. Portugal are the reigning European Champions and in the mix as well is a Poland side who are capable of making life difficult for the other two. There are no easy games in this one for any of them.

League A Group 3 Winner Odds*

Italy even money
Portugal 7/4
Poland 10/3
* (betting odds taken on September 1st, 2018 at 11:30 pm)

Italy

Fascinating stuff coming up in here and part of that is because of the wonder about what Italy are going to do. Their summer was ruined with a World Cup qualification play off a loss to Sweden. That pretty much left the country in mourning. But they have a quick chance to make amends and take a big step in the right direction with the next target being Euro 2020. The Azzurri are going to be a bit of a work in progress and these are important tests for them. They have some good young talent in the squad and Serie A is really strong at the moment.

The big concern is their back line as they are waiting for some young talent to step up and take over the from old guard like Giorgio Chiellini. Chelsea’s Jorginho will become a central focal point of their midfield now as he looks to carry them forward and build his own career at this level. Overall the Italian midfield which has been called up is pretty inexperienced.

The Azzurri are also missing an out and out goalscorer and haven’t gotten enough out of Ciro Immobile. The Italians are even money favourites at bet365 to win League A Group 3* (betting odds taken on September 1st, 2018 at 11:30 pm).

Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t been named in the Portugal squad for the first action in the National League which will see them take on Italy on September 10th. He is getting some rest after his busy summer which makes sense. Now he plays for Juventus, Italians wouldn’t want him opposing them anyway. Like Italy in many regards, Portugal are a young side now and this is a good experience for them for life without Ronaldo when it happens. The goalscoring responsibilities will fall heavily on Sevilla’s Andre Silva, the only man in the current squad to reach double figures for his country with a twelve goal international haul.

Poland

Ahh, Poland. We generally peg them as a good underdog in tournaments, like at Euro 2016 and at the 2018 World Cup. They generally put together good qualification campaigns which makes us believe that better things are ahead. But they blow hot and cold and struggle at times to get the best out of their key players.

They have quality up front in Robert Lewandowski and Arkadiusz Milik along with the experience Jakub Blaszczykowski in midfield. At the 2018 World Cup, though they looked terribly disjointed, they didn’t seem to have a good idea of what they were doing tactically and just never got their forwards into enough action. In the end they made a quiet and unadventurous exit in finishing bottom of their behind Colombia, Japan and Senegal.

UEFA Nations League Winner Odds*

Spain 4/1
France 4/1
Belgium 5/1
Germany 5/1
Italy 9/1
England 12/1
Portugal 14/1
Croatia 16/1
Switzerland 33/1
Poland 50/1
Netherland 50/1
Iceland 88/1

Prediction

This should be a tight group and Poland if they play like they can and how we have seen them in recent qualification tests, could even be in the mix. All three of them were good on home soil in World Cup 2018 qualifiers. So this group is a complete crapshoot from a betting perspective. They all look to be on an even playing field but we are sticking with Portugal at 7/4 to win the group* (betting odds taken on September 1st, 2018 at 11:30 pm).
