Moldova are bottom of Group H in the European Championship qualifiers. Iceland could only manage a draw against Turkey on Thursday night. That wasn’t enough for them as they had to get a win in that one to keep their automatic qualification hopes alive. Read our Moldova vs Iceland betting tips for more.

Moldova have banked three points in this qualification campaign and they are bottom of the pile, a point behind Andorra. The form of Moldova is non-existent. They are on a five-match losing streak in the group and they have conceded at least two goals in all but one of those. In three of their four home fixtures in the group, they have shipped exactly four goals. Moldova’s 1-0 home win over Andorra is their only win and it is the only time they have avoided defeat in their last ten international fixtures. Home and away Moldova have scored in just one of their last six competitive games now.
Iceland won the first group meeting 3-0
That was the first competitive meeting between the two nations
Iceland needed to get a win in Turkey on Thursday night. They could not deliver it however as they were held to a 0-0 draw. That point wasn’t enough to allow them to overhaul Turkey in the final round of matches. So instead now Iceland will be turning to the playoffs. A place there is not guaranteed yet so they need to push for a good win on the road in this one to try and muscle their way in.
Iceland have a W5 D1 L3 record in this group, scoring a total of 12 goals in their 9 games. Out on the road, Iceland did have a 4-2 slip-up in Albania along with a 4-0 loss in France. Their one away win happened against Andorra. Iceland don’t have much away from doing for themselves as they have won just one of their last nine away games (competitive and friendly). In each of those nine road games, Iceland have either scored two goals exactly or zero. They have lost three of their last five European Championship away qualifiers as well (W1 D1).
Iceland do have to battle and fight to try and get points on the board to try and secure a place in the qualification playoffs. That should be incentive enough for them and even though they aren’t in great away form at all, they have to pick off a very poor Moldova side. Away win

This is a big game for both Turkey and Iceland. Turkey are the group leaders on the head to head over France and will be feeling a little bit of pressure to deliver in this one. Iceland need a massive result in this one as three points would pull them to within one point of Turkey with one to play. So their qualification hopes would hinge on them winning. It has been a strong campaign by Turkey who are sitting level on 19 points with France. Turkey are top courtesy of having earned four points from their two games against the French. Simply avoiding defeat in this home fixture will guarantee them a place at Euro 2020 next summer so that the minimum requirement for them on the night. Turkey have only given up three goals in their eight qualification games which has been an excellent return.
Interestingly the one defeat that they have suffered in this campaign happened against Iceland back in June. But they are W3 D1 since then earning three clean sheets on the bounce. Turkey have won their last six European Championship home qualifiers, not conceding a single goal in that sequence of games.
Iceland are on a three-match winning streak against Turkey
The most recent meeting in Turkey was in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers
Turkey have won just one of the last six games against Iceland (D1 L4)
Both teams have scored in one of the last seven meetings
So qualification is on the line for Iceland. They trail Turkey and France by four points with two games to play. That’s a tough situation to be in. A win though in Turkey on Thursday and they will haul themselves right into the mix with their final game of qualification to come against Moldova. Iceland took a 2-0 home win over Andorra in their last qualifier, which was a response to back to back losses against Albania and France.
Overall Iceland are W5 L3 in this qualification campaign. Their away form in European Championship qualifiers isn’t great. They have lost three of their four such matches (W1) failing to score in two of those three defeats. One of them was back in 2015 when they went to Turkey in Euro 2016 qualifiers and lost 1-0. Iceland have conceded exactly four goals in each of their last two away games in this group, fixtures against France and Albania.
Turkey really just need a quiet and calm night on the intentional front here. A point gets them to Euro 2020, a win will see them take a step towards winning the group. The former of those has to be a much bigger priority. Turkey have been so good defensively that they can shut down the visitors. Turkey to win to nil.

This is a big game for Turkey in Group H of Euro 2020 qualification. They sprung a huge surprise taking victory over France on the weekend which leaves them probably group with three wins from three. It hasn’t been a bad start from Iceland in their Euro 2020 qualification campaign. They opened with a 2-0 away success at Andorra and on Saturday produced a 1-0 home success over Albania. Sandwiched between those two successes was a bit of a chastening 4-0 defeat against France. Iceland had a poor Nations League campaign and in fact, before the Euro 2020 qualifiers started, they were on a seven-match winless streak of form, losing four of those fixtures.
Iceland have won just two of their 10 fixtures since the start of September 2018. One positive that they can take with them into this game against Turkey is that they have collected a clean sheet in three of their last four games played. But those were games against weaker opposition than what Turkey is. Iceland have failed to score in three of their last six fixtures. A win in this one would really shake things up in the top two of Group H, but will Iceland have enough to stop the in-form Turkey?
Iceland and Turkey were parent up in World Cup 2018 qualification
Iceland won both of those fixtures with a clean sheet
Iceland leave the overall head-to-head W3 L1 against Turkey
Both teams have NOT scored in the four previous meetings
Turkey have hit the ground running in Euro 2020 qualification with three straight victories. Across those successes, they have scored eight unanswered goals. On the weekend they pulled off the biggest shock so far of the qualifiers, producing a 2-0 home success against the reigning world champions France. That leaves Turkey fully in control at the top of the table, three points ahead of both France and Ireland. So they may well see the importance of picking up a point in this one which will guarantee that they stay on top of the group at the end of this international break.
It is some form that Turkey are currently on at the moment because it is a five-match winning streak that they have running. Considering that they didn’t exactly set the stage alight in the nations league this has been something of a surprising run of form from them. They seem to have settled into being in pretty decent side at the moment. In each of their last five games played they have scored at least two goals. Their defensive output is also worth a mention as well because they have five clean sheets in their last six games played now.
Iceland are not in any kind of form at the moment and there should be a good chance for Turkey to keep up their momentum. Turkey were actually annoyed by their treatment at the airport upon arriving in Iceland so that my fire them up more to go out and produce the victory. Turkey to win.
