Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea Prediction & Betting Tips, 14th March 2019

Chelsea

Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea Europa League Preview, 14th March 5.55pm

This tie looks pretty much to be in the bag with Chelsea having powered their way to a 3-0 success in the first leg. That sets them up so well for this trip out and East. It should be a simple matter of game management from the Premier League side now. Read our Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea betting tips for more.

Chelsea 6/5
Draw 12/5
Dynamo Kiev 13/5
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on March 12th, 2019 at 4:12 p.m.)

Chelsea News and Form

It was comfortable for a patient Chelsea side in the end at home against Dynamo Kiev in the first leg of this round of sixteen tie. Chelsea have never won in Ukraine before having gone D1 L1 there from their previous visits. The victory in the first leg gave Chelsea their eighth win in nine Europa League games this season (D1). After topping their group stage they comfortably beat Malmo 5-1 in the last round.

This is the second meeting between the two teams after having met in the 2015/16 Champions League group stage. There was a 0-0 draw between them in Kiev on that occasion. In their other game in Ukraine, Chelsea lost 2-1 at Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2013/14 Champions League. The Blues are unbeaten in twelve Europa League games now. They are W4 D1 in their last five away games in the competition. The Blues have won 11 of the 15 previous UEFA ties after a first-leg victory at home.

Dynamo Kiev News and Form

There is a big uphill task for Kiev then in this one. Like Chelsea, Dynamo Kiev also won their group in the Europa League and then edged a 3-2 aggregate win over Olympiakos in the last round. They do actually have some good home form against English sides. They have only suffered three defeats in their 14 previous home games against English opponents, winning five of those.

In the Europa League specifically, Dynamo Kiev are W2 D1 at home against English sides. They have won their two previous knockout ties as well in this competition against English opposition, Man City in 2010/11 and Everton in 2014/15. It doesn’t look too likely that they are going to pull off a win in this tie. Dynamo Kiev have lost just two of their last fourteen home games in Europe (W8 D4) which is a fine record. In 5 of their last 13 previous UEFA ties where they had lost the first leg away from home, Kiev fought back to win.

Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea Tips & Odds

Under 2.5 goals at 8/11
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on March 12th, 2019 at 4:12 p.m.)

Who will win – Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea Predictions

There is little need for Chelsea to push in this one and given that Kiev have a pretty good home record against English sides, the draw may be the safest bet in the match outright.

Arsenal

Arsenal v Rennes Europa League Preview, 14th March 8.00pm

The Gunners have to mount a big fight back in this tie after collapsing to a 3-1 defeat out in France in the first leg. For Rennes, this will be just their second ever visit to England, but survive this one and it will continue their best ever run in UEFA competition. Read our Arsenal v Rennes betting tips for more.

Arsenal 3/10
Draw 5/1
Rennes 10/1
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on March 12th, 2019 at 4:12 p.m.)

Arsenal News and Form

So the Gunners have plenty of work to do. The Gunners cruised through the group stage of this competition but they had to come back in the last round after losing the first leg away from home. That was against Bate, Arsenal winning 3-0 back at the Emirates after a 1-0 away defeat. Arsenal have won only three of the 13 UEFA competition ties in which they were defeated away in the first leg, one of those happening against BATE.

The Gunners need the minimum of a 2-0 scoreline in this tie against Rennes. Alex Iwobi had put Arsenal ahead early in the first leg. But the telling point was a red card before half time for Sokratis Papastathopoulos. This will be Arsenal’s 26 game against French opposition and their 13th on home soil.

Arsenal have won only five of their previous 12 home games against French opposition, losing three. The last time they hosted a French side they played out a 2-2 draw against PSG in the 2016/17 Champions League group stage. The Gunners have won four of five two-legged UEFA ties against Frenchs sides. They lost their last one though, against Monaco in the 2014/15 Champions League.

Rennes News and Form

This is the most successful UEFA competition campaign from Rennes in their history. They only got through to the knockout stages by the skin of their teeth, winning a must-win match on matchday six. They then pulled off an upset in beats Real Bets in the round of 32. Their only previous experience against English opposition before this meeting with Arsenal was a 2001 Intertoto cup semi-final against Aston Villa in which the two traded home wins.

Rennes are in their second Europa League campaign, and only managed three points in their first attempt back in 2011/12. Rennes took a 1-0 win in the Czech Republic on matchday five to beat Jablonec and that was their first away win in eight games. They followed that up with a very impressive 3-1 win at Betis. Rennes have won four of the previous six UEFA ties after having won the first leg at home.

Arsenal v Rennes Tips & Odds

Both teams to score at 10/11
Arsenal to win & both teams to score at 7/4

Who will win – Arsenal v Rennes Predictions

The Gunners have enough scoring power behind them to get the win on the board at the Emirates. But they are vulnerable at the back and Rennes can make this interesting by getting on the scoresheet. Arsenal to win & both teams to score.

Chelsea News and Form

It has been steady progress from Chelsea in the tournament so far this season. They have posted a W7 D1 record in their eight games. In the last round, they eased to a 5-1 aggregate win over Malmo. Chelsea met Kiev in the 2015/16 Champions League group stage with the Blues winning 2-1 at home after a 0-0 away draw. The only other encounter with Ukrainian opponents that Chelsea have had was against Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2013/14 Champions League with the two trading home wins.

Current Chelsea star Willian scored twice for Shakhtar’s in their 3-2 home win, which dropped Chelsea to the Europa League which the Blues then went on to win. The Blues are on an eleven match undefeated streak of form in the Europa League. Their record at Stamford Bridge in the competition is W7 D1. Olivier Giroud is on a five-match scoring streak in the UEFA Champions League.

Dynamo Kiev News and Form

Kiev were group winners in this season’s Europa League, topping Rennes. In the last round, they produced a win over Olympiakos 3-2 on aggregate. Dinamo Kiev have faced plenty of English opposition before. This will be their 29th game against English opposition. They have won exactly half of their previous 28 so it is something of a competitive record from them.

They have, however, lost 11 of their 14 previous visits to England, so that is where it has fallen down (D3). They have failed to score in 9 of those 14 as well. The last time they were in England they played out a 0-0 draw at Man City in the Champions League 2015/16 round of sixteen. They are D1 L2 in three previous Europa league visits to England.

Rennes News and Form

This is the furthest that Rennes have ever been in UEFA competition. During the group stage of this season’s competition, Rennes lost three in a row, but they managed to turn things around dramatically. On match day six they took a must-win success over Astana squeeze through. Just a hint at their threat, they caused an upset in the round of 32, by knocking out Real Betis.

The only previous meeting with English opposition that Rennes have had was in the 2001 Intertoto Cup semi-final when they lost on away goals. This is only their second appearance in the Europa League, not getting out of the group stage in their first attempt in 2011/12. Rennes are undefeated in their last twelve home games in all competitions, winning eight. Rennes are W2 D1 L1 in their four European home games this season.

Arsenal News and Form

This will be Arsenal’s 25th UEFA fixture going against French opposition. They are undefeated in twelve previous away games in France. Arsenal’s record in France is W8 D4. Their last trip to France ended in a 1-1 draw at PSG which ended a seven-match winning streak that they were on in away games against French opposition. Last season Arsenal won 5-1 on aggregate against AC Milan in the Europa League round of sixteen.

That was the first time in eight years that they had won at that stage of a European competition. In this season’s group stage, the Gunners won all three away games. But they did however, lose on the road at BATE in the last round. Their away record in two UEFA Europa League campaigns is W7 D1 L3, with 19 goals scored and seven conceded. All three defeats in that sequence were 1-0 losses.

Chelsea News and Form

Chelsea met up with Malmo for the first time ever in the first leg of this tie. Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud got their goals in the game. They really should have closed the game out, but the Blues fell apart in the last ten minutes as Malmo ramped up the pressure. Chelsea have faced two previous ties against Swedish sides, with a W1 L1 record in those two. In the group stage this season Chelsea won all three of their home games, conceding just the one goal in that sequence of games.

This is the second time that Chelsea have been at this stage of the competition. The Blues are undefeated in ten Europa League games now, winning nine of the games in that sequence. They have never lost a home game (W6 L1) in the Europa League. They have not won any of the last four knockout stage games in Europe (D2 L2) however. The Blues have never lost a UEFA tie having won the first leg away from home.

Malmo News and Form

The only previous time that Malmo were in the group stage of the European League was in 2011/12 and they picked up one point.

* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on February 17th, 2019 at 7:16 p.m.)

Eintracht Frankfurt News and Form

We thought this could be a interesting tie and it is proving to be after a 2-2 draw in the first leg. That does give German side Eintracht Frankfurt the leg up in the tie with away goals and the home advantage to come on Thursday night. The previous head to head record stands even at one win each and a draw from three previous meetings between these two clubs. Frankfurt have currently put together a five-match sequence of draws in all competitions, including the first leg of this tie.

They have gone W2 D2 L2 in their last six on home soil across all competition, not having picked up a clean sheet in any of those games. So there could be a little bit of life left in his one. Although what may sway punters in favour of the Germans is their immense W6 D1 record in his season’s Europa League. Can’t really argue with that. They have scored eight goals in three three home games so far.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Shakhtar Donetsk Head to Head

The tie is level a 2-2 after the first leg
That first leg of this tie was the first ever meeting

Shakhtar Donetsk News and Form

Shakhtar were always like going to be a handful on home soil in his tie. There were just that. It leaves them undefeated in their last seven games in all competition. However, that game against Shakhtar is their only game since the beginning of December last year. Their domestic league doesn’t startup against until March. So that does make things a little difficult for the Ukrainians.

They have won their last three away games though, including a 3-2 success at German side Hoffenheim in the group stage of the Champions League. That was their only win of their six group stage matches (D3 L2). Meaning that they have won just one of seven European fixtures played this season home and away.

* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on February 17th, 2019 at 7:16 p.m.)

Valencia News and Form

Valencia are really in the driving seat now in this tie having taken a strong 2-0 away win at Celtic Park. That is a tough deficit for their Scottish opponents to try and overcome. Valencia are a top ten side in La Liga on a good streak of form there. They are a hard side to beat although they have done more of their fair share of drawing matches this season. At the Mestalla the Spaniards are currently on a huge twelve match undefeated streak of form, winning eight of those.

They have only conceded one goal in their last five games as well at home in all competitions. There has been another strong trend with them as they have scored at least two goals in five of their last eight home fixtures. Valencia dropped down from the Champions League this season having finished behind Juventus and Man Utd. They won two of their three home games (losing against Juve).

Valencia v Celtic Head to Head

Valencia hold a 2-0 lead in the tie from the first leg
Valencia are W3 D1 L1 in their five previous games against Celtic
Celtic have lost their two previous trips to Valencia
Both teams have NOT scored in any of the last three meetings

Celtic News and Form

Do Celtic have enough to turn this around? They were poor in that first leg, looking really sloppy and giving the ball away. They were outsmarted by their Spanish counterparts basically. Celtic have taken a W3 D1 L2 record in their last six games away from home in all competitions. Their European season started back in the Champions League qualifiers were they went W1 D1 L1 in their three away games.

In the group stage of this season’s Europa League, they opened with back to back away defeats against Salzburg and Leipzig before edging Rosenborg 1-0 in their final round match. The Hoops are going to have to come up with something drastically different to the performance and tactics from the first leg. Celtic bowed out of last season’s Europa League at this stage following a 3-0 away defeat at Zenit St Petersburg.

Valencia v Celtic Tips & Odds

Arsenal News and Form

After a strong group stage campaign, where they dropped only the two points in their six games, Arsenal suffered a 1-0 loss in the first leg of this tie. During the group stage, Arsenal kept a clean sheet in five straight games and were expected to be on top in this tie already. In the round of 32 last season, Arsenal’s first ever appearance at this stage, the Gunners lost 1-2 at home against Ostersund after having won 3-0 in Sweden.

Arsenal’s home record in their Europa League campaigns so far is W6 D3 L1 and they have tallied up 23 goals in that sequence. Interestingly the Gunners have lost their first knockout stage home match in each of their last six European campaigns. Arsenal have won two of 12 previous UEFA ties after having lost the first leg. Surprisingly they have never overturned a 1-0 deficit in a tie having lost the first leg away from home. Alexandre Lacazette was sent off in the first leg, so will miss this.

Arsenal v BATE Head to Head

Arsenal trail in the tie 1-0 from the first leg
Arsenal won their one previous home game 6-0 against BATE
The Gunners are W2 D1 from their three previous games against BATE

BATE News and Form

Belarusian Champions BATE will be looking to defend their way to the round of sixteen, taking out one of the tournament favourites as they go. Only four teams won their home game in the round of 32 and BATE was one of them. Last season they met Arsenal in the group stage of the Europa League and lost 6-0 at the Emirates. That was after a 4-2 home defeat against the Gunners. BATE faced English opposition in this season’s group stage, going up against Chelsea and losing both games against the Blues.

Stanislav Dragun was the man who has given them the advantage in this tie. How important will that goal prove to be? BATE have been to England twice before, beating Everton in 2009/10 and then losing 3-1 at Chelsea this season. BATE have won four of six away games in Europe this season and their overall away record in the UEFA Europa League is W4 D4 L6. BATE are W10 L2 in twelve previous ties after having won the first leg.

Sevilla News and Form

Sevilla only qualified for the knockout stage on matchday six of the Europa League, but got through on the head to head against Krasnodar. They won their group in the end though with 18 goals on the board (fourteen of those coming at home). Their 18 goals was more than any other team in the group stage managed. Sevilla have won all six of their European home games this season and in that sequence of match have scored 22 goals and have conceded just the one.

They are unbeaten in 17 at home against non-Spanish sides. Sevilla have won all seven of their previous UEFA competition ties after having won the first leg away from home. They have qualified from the round of 32 in each of their last three appearances at this stage. Their last two home defeats in the Europa League have both been at the hands of fellow Spanish teams. Sevilla’s record against Italian teams is W4 D2 L5. At home, it is W2 D1 L1 with a clean sheet in three of those.

Sevilla v Lazio Head to Head

The first leg was the first-ever meeting between the two
Sevilla hold a 1-0 lead in the tie

Lazio News and Form

Lazio are now actually on a three-match losing streak in Europe after their home defeat at the Stadio Olimpico against Sevilla. So they have a lot of work on their hands here to try and get a win at such a good home side. Lazio have won three of their five previous ties at this stage of the UEFA Europa League. One of those defeats was against Spanish opposition, Atletico Madrid in 2011/12.

Twice before Lazio have lost the first home leg of a European tie and they failed to qualify on each occasion. Incidentally, both of those occasions were in the Round of 32 in the Europa League. Away from home currently in the Europa League, Lazio have lost three of their last four. The only saving grace here is that they have never before lost four matches no the bounce in the Europa League and this is their seventh campaign.

We didn’t see enough from Lazio to suggest that they are going to get back in this tie. Sevilla’s home form is impressive in Europe this season. It may just be simply worth sticking under 2.5 goals but Sevilla look the more likely of the two to win this second leg.

Draw 12/5
Celtic 5/2
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on February 11th, 2019 at 11:18 p.m.)

Celtic v Valencia Preview

Celtic did not have an easy time of things in the group stage. They only made it through to the knockout phase thanks to a helping hand from Rosenborg on matchday six. Celtic had lost at home against Salzburg on matchday six, but Rosenborg’s draw put the Scottish champions through. Celtic have only met Valencia once before which was in the 2001/02 UEFA Cup which Celtic lost on penalties at home in. Celtic don’t have a great record against Spanish sides winning only seven of 30 previous matches. Their home record against Spanish sides is W7 D2 L6. Celtic have lost five of their last eight home games against Spanish opposition. This is Celtic’s third appearance at this stage and only the second time from five attempts they have gotten out of the group stage. They were though on a good seven-match undefeated streak of European home form before losing against Salzburg on matchday six.

Valencia failed to make progress from their group in the Champions League, missing out to Juventus and Manchester United. The Spaniards did get four points out of their two games against Manchester United though, helping them to a W2 D2 L2 record in the group. The Spaniards have a perfect record from five previous round of 32 ties in the Europa League. They are undefeated in their last seven fixtures at this stage of the competition and not only that, and Valencia banked a clean sheet in each of those matches. But still, they haven’t done a lot of winning on their travels, getting just two in their last eleven on the road in Europe (L7). Incidentally, Valencia have drawn more league games in La Liga (13) than any other team have this season.

Who will win – Celtic v Valencia Predictions

This has the look of a draw about it. Valencia appear to be a tough side to break down but they are strong favourites for this tie. So we are going to stick with the Spaniards avoiding defeat at Celtic Park. Outright draw at 12/5 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on February 11th, 2019 at 11:18 p.m.)
