Kilmarnock v Connahs Quay Europa League Preview, 18th July 7.45pm

Kilmarnock have a slight advantage in this Europa League tie after they secured a 2-1 win in the first leg of this Europa League first qualifying round tie. They get home advantage for the second part of this tie and will be expected to have an easy time of progressing from here. Read our Kilmarnock v Connahs Quay betting tips for more.

Kilmarnock News and Form

Kilmarnock then have a lead in this tie with a 2-1 win from the away leg. So while the scoreline is narrow, home advantage is now in their court. Their win only came though via a stoppage-time goal after 90 minutes of some frustration. This is a big pre-season for Kilmarnock as it is their first venture into Europe since the 2001/02 season in the UEFA CUP. They came through a qualification round against Glenavon on that occasion but were eliminated from the first qualifying round against Norwegian side Norway. Kilmarnock have won two of their last four European home games (D1 L1). Their overall record in the UEFA Cup/Europa League is P13 W5 D2 L6.

Kilmarnock v Connahs Quay Head to Head

The first leg of this tie was the first game between the two clubs

Connahs Quay News and Form

The Nomads actually took the lead in his tie. That was when Killie’s Grey Taylor put through his own net with just under a quarter of an hour to go. But the Welsh side couldn’t hold on. Almost, but not quite. However, they played a very strong physical game did Quay. But they will be well aware of the size of the task ahead of them now in the second leg up in Scotland. This is the fourth time that they have been in the qualification rounds of the Europa League, the fourth consecutive season of being so. Their record in Europe is W2 D1 L6 from nine played. Their only success in a tie was in their first-ever Europa League tie, a 2016 first qualifying round duel with Norway’s Stabaek which the Nomads won 1-0 on aggregate.

Kilmarnock v Connahs Quay Tips & Odds

Who will win – Kilmarnock v Connahs Quay Predictions

Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock will be hoping for a comfortable ride through back on home soil. They will probably have been caught out a little bit by the physicality of their opponents in the first leg. They can get a stronger grip back at home. Killie to win to nil.

Rovaniemi v Aberdeen Prediction & Betting Tips, 18th July 2019

Europa League Betting

Rovaniemi v Aberdeen Europa League Preview, 18th July 5.00pm

Aberdeen still have a little bit of work to do in this Europa League first qualifying round tie. They collected only a 2-1 home win over their Finnish opponents in the first leg. So how costly will that away goal conceded end up being as they head out on the road for a tricky second leg? Read our Rovaniemi v Aberdeen betting tips for more.

Rovaniemi News and Form

The football calendar year is a little different in Finland and the new season for Rovaniemi started back in April. So they are not going to have any issues over match sharpness. None of that accounts for form though and they have very little of that. They have only won four games all season across all competitions from sixteen played (D3 L9). So it’s not exactly a side that Aberdeen should be fearing. RoPS have never made it past the second qualifying round of the Europa League. In 2016 they did make it past the first qualifying round with an aggregate win over Shamrock Rovers. RoPS have only one of their last five European ties.

Rovaniemi v Aberdeen Head to Head

The first leg of this tie was the first meeting between the two sides

Aberdeen News and Form

Goals from Niall McGinn and Sam Cosgrove put Aberdeen in a comfortable position of being 2-0 up in the first leg of this tie at Pittodrie. However, they conceded in the third minute of stoppage time, shipping an away goal that they hope won’t be too costly. Ahead of that game boss Derek McInnes had agreed to a new deal with the club. Only two of the summer signings that the club have made were on show in that first leg, those being John Gallgahger and Ryan Hedges. Realistically Aberdeen should have been out of sight but they were prevented from pulling off a rout by RoPS keeper Reuguero who had a great game. Just as a slight concern, they have lost their last two away games in Europe (both by a two-goal margin) and four of their last six.

Who will win – Rovaniemi v Aberdeen Predictions

The Dons should have had this tie in the bag already from that first leg. While the scoreline doesn’t look brilliant, the performance of Aberdeen was encouraging and they shouldn’t be in too much danger. They will get more chances. Aberdeen to win.

St Josephs v Rangers Europa League Preview, 9th July 4.55pm

Rangers head into some competitive action in the first qualifying round of the Europa League. We aren’t likely to see a full strength side out in this one by them as they make the trip to Gibraltar. St Joseph came through the qualifying first round. Read our St Josephs v Rangers betting tips for more.

* (Betting Odds were taken from William Hill on July 7th, 2019 at 3:49 a.m.)

St Josephs News and Form

This fixture has been scheduled for Tuesday because of St Joseph’s ground isn’t suitable for European matches by UEFA’s standards. So they are going to be playing this at the Victoria Stadium (home of the Gibraltar National Team) because another team (Europa) is playing there in the Europa League on Thursday.

St Josephs came through the challenge of Prishtina (who was reduced to nine men in the second leg of their tie) to get through their preliminary qualification round with a 3-1 win. This is the second time that they have been in the Europa League 1st Qualifying Round. They lost 10-0 on aggregate against AEL Limassol in 2017. Their overall record in the Europa League (all qualifiers) is W1 D3 L2.

Rangers News and Form

Last season Rangers made it all the way from the first qualifying round into the group stage of the main draw. They didn’t make it any further. In the season before that, they lost in a shocker against Progres Niederkorn in the first qualifying round. But their run last year under Steven Gerrard through the qualifiers was solid and unspectacular as you would expect.

Their overall record in the UEFA Cup/Europa League is W39 D28 L28. Rangers have been busy in pre-season beating Mansfield, TNS and then putting a 5-0 win over Oxford on the board on Sunday in some friendly action. A clean sheet for Rangers is at 3/10* (Betting Odds were taken from William Hill on July 7th, 2019 at 3:49 a.m.).

Who will win – St Josephs v Rangers Predictions

This should be a routine game for Rangers. Their understrength teams have looked relatively sharp in their pre-season friendly work. They shouldn’t find the going tough against St Josephs who finished third in their league last year. Rangers to win to nil.

Chelsea News and Form

The Blues have secured a place in next season’s Champions League via their finish in the Premier League. So that pressure is off them at least. The Blues closed out the season with a W2 D5 record in all competitions. So they weren’t exactly in a great streak of form. But they had a touch of resilience about them. Back in 2013, Chelsea lifted the Europa League title in their first ever attempt.

It would be something to make it two from two. Just once before have Chelsea and Arsenal met in Europe. That was when the Blues won in the 2003/04 Champions League quarter-final 3-2 on aggregate. This season’s Europa League campaign saw Chelsea compete in the group stage of the competition for the first time ever. They posted a W5 D1 record there, topping the group at a canter.

The Blues won their first six knockout stage fixtures as well before they were seriously challenged by Frankfurt in the semifinals. Both legs of that tie ended in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea prevailing on a penalty shootout. Eden Hazard got the decisive spot kick. Will this be his last game for the club? The Belgian is an 11/8 anytime goalscorer option for the game* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on May 24th, 2019 at 7:56 p.m.).

He truly is Chelsea’s big spark and without him, they have lacked creativity. The Blues will be defending a 17 match undefeated streak of form in the UEFA Europa League. That is a competition record. That stretches back to the final three games of their successful 2013 campaign. The Blues are W14 D3 in that run of seventeen fixtures which is a pretty fine record. The Blues have also scored more goals than any other side in this season’s competition.

Chelsea v Arsenal Head to Head

Chelsea and Arsenal both won their EPL home games against the other this season
Arsenal are W3 D4 L1 in their last eight against Chelsea
Both teams have scored in two of the last five meetings
Chelsea have conceded at least two goals in each of their last three against the Gunners

Arsenal News and Form

So the Gunners have the extra pressure on them here. Their Premier League form collapsed at the end of the season, which means that they missed out on a place in the Champions League. Fortunately for them, the Europa League offers a back door to the competition. Maybe knowing that was the spur of inspiration for them to push hard in the Europa League, and they have put together a five-match winning streak in the tournament ahead of their trip to Azerbaijan.

That five-match winning streak is their best ever run of form in the competition. Their previous best was a three-match winning run. Last season Arsenal made the semi-finals of the Europa League in what was their first-ever campaign. They were beaten by eventual winners Atletico Madrid. But they made amends in the final four of this season’s competition against Spanish opposition, Valencia.

Like Chelsea, Arsenal had an easy time of things in the group stage of the season’s Europa League. They posted a W5 D1 record and only conceded in their opening game. Interestingly in that group stage, they paid a visit to the Baku Olympic Stadium, where this season’s Final is being held, as they met Qarabag in their first away game. Arsenal won 3-0. Arsenal did lose the first of leg of their round of 32 tie against BATE and against Rennes in the round of 16 before recovering in North London.

That put them through to a quarter-final against Napoli, the Gunners handling themselves superbly in a 2-0 aggregate success. Then they powered their way to a 7-3 aggregate over Valencia in the semi-finals. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (four) and Alexandre Lacazette (three) shared the goals in that tie. Aubameyang is the 11/10 Anytime goalscorer favourite* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on May 24th, 2019 at 7:56 p.m.). From their previous 179 meeting with Chelsea, Arsenal have won 76 and lost 63.

Of the two sides, Arsenal are the ones with the better attacking threat. The Blues basically rely on Eden Hazard and that’s it. This is probably going to be a tense night as finals usually are, but the Gunners may well handle themselves especially with the extra motivation of needing to win to get Champions League football next term.

Valencia News and Form

Valencia started European action this season in the Champions League. They could not find a way to muscle themselves into the top two finish behind Juventus and Manchester United. They need to call on all of their home strengths for this one in the Europa League and it is a fantastic record that they do have at the Mestalla in this competition. Valencia are currently on an 11 match undefeated streak of home form in the Europa League, winning each of their last eight. In a eight-game winning sequence, they have scored 22 goals and have conceded just three.

Interestingly the last team to beat them at the Mestalla in the Europa League was a Premier league side which was Swansea back in the 2013/14 group stage. Of the 19 UEFA competition ties in which Valencia have lost away in the first leg, they have recovered to win on aggregate on ten occasions. You cannot help but feel that if they get the opening goal in this second leg, then the fragility of Arsenal’s defence is going to be called into question.

So far at home this season in Europe, Valencia suffered a defeat against Juventus but took home wins over Manchester United and Young Boys in the Champions League. They then moved past Celtic with a 1-0 home win and proceeded to dispatch Krasnodar and local rivals Villarreal from the Europa League. Valencia have been paired up with Arsenal in UEFA competition on three previous occasions. The Spaniards have come out on top each time. Valencia’s home record in Europe against English opposition is W12 D16 L10 and they have won six of their nine two-legged ties against English opposition.

Arsenal News and Form

The form of Arsenal in the English Premier league is just about at rock bottom at the moment. They have lost four of their last six, winning just one game in that sequence. A disappointing home draw against Brighton on the weekend pretty much ruined their chance of a top-four finish this season in the EPL. With that in mind that may least amp up their focus in this game because winning the Europa League would be the back door entrance into the UEFA Champions League next season.

There are 3-1 home win over Valencia in the first leg of this tie does give them a nice advantage. But how crucial will that away goal given up be? Arsenal have lost their last four two-legged ties against Spanish teams. The Gunners have won 11 of the 34 UEFA competition fixtures against Spanish opposition. They have had mixed fortunes on the road this season in the competition. Arsenal started well by winning all three of their group stage away games.

But then in the knockout stages, they lost at BATE and then Rennes. In the quarter-finals they did win their away game, collecting a 1-0 victory at Napoli. The away record of Arsenal in the Roper league is W8 D1 L4 and in that sequence of matches, the Gunners have scored 21 goals, conceding 10. They were on a four-match winless streak of away form in the knockout phase of the Europa League, before taking that win at Napoli in the last round. Arsenal have won the first leg at home in 19 UEFA competition ties and have prevailed in 17 of them. They aren’t in a particularly great place at the moment, can they deliver some mental defensive toughness?

Chelsea News and Form

So Chelsea have a nice advantage now and are poised well in this tie. After coming from behind to earn a draw in the first leg out in Germany, the longer that first leg went on the less and less threatening Frankfurt became. That continued an impressive campaign in this season’s UEFA Champions League from Chelsea. The Blues have won each of their last nine home games in the Europa League and now do look fully to be in the driving seat to reach the final.

With a good league performance in the English top flight on the weekend and other results going their way, Chelsea have confirmed a top-four finish there are so will be heading to the Champions League next season. That take some pressure off them on the domestic front and allows them to fully focus on the second leg of this tie. In avoiding defeat in the first leg of this tie Chelsea have set a new record in the competition as that was their 16th game in a row without defeat.

It was also Chelsea’s 11th win in their 13 matches played in this season’s competition (D2). The Blues have won five of their nine previous UEFA competition ties after having drawn the first leg away from home. They have however lost three of their last four. Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is the top scorer in this season’s competition with 10 goals to his name. Chelsea have never lost at home to German visitors, winning six of their eight previous such fixtures. Two of those eight games were knockout phase fixtures, Chelsea winning both of those.

Eintracht Frankfurt News and Form

While Chelsea were booking a top-four finish in the Premier League on the weekend, Eintracht Frankfurt suffered a 6-1 hammering against Bayer Leverkusen in the German top flight. To be fair they probably had one big eye on this fixture. Frankfurt have been a major threat in this season’s competition and they have scored in each of their last 14 away games in Europe. The big danger man Luka Jovic opened the scoring for them with a fantastic header in the first half of the opening game of this tie.

Jovic is on nine goals for this seasons Europa League campaign, just one behind Chelsea’s Giroud. Frankfurt have only been involved in two previous two-legged ties against English clubs in European action before. They lost both of those ties and suffered defeats in both away games. It has been really good stuff from them in this season’s Europa League though as they won their group ahead of Lazio and Marseille. They then got past Shakhtar and Inter Milan in the knockout stages before taking out Benfica 4-2 on aggregate in the quarterfinals.

The home record that Eintracht Frankfurt have in the Europa League, home and away (including qualifying) is W16 D5 L2 which is highly impressive. They have won seven of their 11 previous away games in this competition, but just one of those victories have been in the knockout phase. Eintracht have lost three of the four UEFA ties in which they have drawn the first leg at home. This is the first-ever appearance in the Europa League semi-final by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt News and Form

The way that Eintracht Frankfurt have handled themselves in this season’s at UEFA Europa league has been highly impressive. They have only lost one game on their way to the semifinals. In the group stage they picked up maximum points, and that was not a particularly easy group that they were in either. In this season’s group stage, they faced Lazio, last year’s Europa League runners up Marseille and Apollon Limassol.

They also moved on to take out some big guns through the knockout stages of the competition.each of their three opponents in the knockout rounds, prior to this meeting with Chelsea, were against teams who dropped down from this season’s champions league. First of all Eintracht Frankfurt beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the round of 32, before seeing off Inter Milan in the following round. That set them up with a quarter-final tie against Benfica.

Eintracht Frankfurt lost the first leg of that tie away from home, playing a large chunk of the game with 10-men. But they battled so well to get a couple of goals on the board in a 4-2 defeat. Those away goals were so vital in the end as they turned the tie around with a 2-0 home success over Benfica, to progress through on away goals.

This will be the first time that Eintracht Frankfurt have faced Chelsea. The Germans have had experience against English opposition before, but it all has been negative. They have lost all three of their previous two-legged UEFA competition ties against English teams. Their last game against English opposition was a 0-0 home draw against Newcastle in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup group stage, with a 0-0 draw being played out in that fixture.

It leaves Eintracht Frankfurt unbeaten on home soil against English teams at a W2 D2 record. Eintracht Frankfurt have only ever lost two games in the Europa League, winning 16 of their other 20 fixtures played in the competition. So that is highly impressive and at home in the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt have never lost that game. Their record in Europa League home games is won nine, drawn two. They are the only one team left in the final four who have never been to the semifinals of this competition before.

Chelsea News and Form

Chelsea have gone just a little bit better than what Eintracht Frankfurt have done in this season’s Europa League. Chelsea are undefeated in this campaign, winning 11 of their 12 fixtures. They took an easy group win at the first stage before coasting to a 5-1 aggregate victory over Swedish side Malmo in the round of 32. Chelsea then sent Dinamo Kiev packing with an 8-0 aggregate success. They were pushed a little bit more when it came to facing Slavia Prague in the quarter-finals.

Despite a pretty poor performance they managed to survive a trip to Prague by earning a late 1-0 victory. The return leg at Stamford Bridge ended in a 4-3 win for the Blues. Chelsea’s overall home and away form against Bundesliga opposition is not bad at all. From their 19 previous matches they hold a W10 D5 L4 record. They have also won their last two visits to Bundesliga opposition.

On their last show trip to Germany, Chelsea has faced Schalke and in those two matches, the English side produced a 3-0 and 5-0 victory. In the Europa League, Chelsea are currently on a six-match winning streak. This has suddenly become a hugely important campaign for them because it offers them a guaranteed place in next season’s Champions lLeague if they can lift the title. That is a nice backup to have just in case things don’t work out in the top four finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea have equalled Atletico Madrid’s unbeaten 15 match streak in the UEFA Europa League. So they are on the brink of setting a whole new standard. Chelsea haven’t lost in the Europa league since a defeat at Rubin Kazan in their 2012/13 quarter-final. That campaign was their only previous one in the Europa League, and Chelsea still went on to win the tournament outright in what was their debut season. Chelsea have won six of their last seven (D1) away games in the Europa league, scoring 14 goals and conceding just the four.

Arsenal News and Form

The Gunners need to find some form after some recent troubles in the Premier League. They may struggle to get a top-four finish there, so this is a hugely important Europa League campaign for them now. At this stage of last season’s Europa League campaign, the Gunners were eliminated by Spanish opposition in the form of Atletico Madrid. This time they take on Valencia, who could at the end of the day, be just as tough.

Arsenal have lost three of five previous games against Valencia W1 D1, so that’s not a good start either. The Gunners have only managed ten wins from their 33 previous games against Spanish opposition. Three of the fifteen defeats in that sequence happened in Finals. The home record that Arsenal hold against Spanish visitors is W8 D4 L3 and their last two have been a 0-2 reverse against Barcelona and 1-1 draw against Atletico in last season’s semifinals.

Arsenal have lost their last four two-legged ties against teams from La Liga. But there are positives despite all of that. After an easy group stage campaign, it was home soil advantage in the second legs of their round of 32 tie against BATE and round of 16 tie against Rennes that has helped Arsenal through. They had lost the away first leg in both of those ties but were bold and good enough to power their way through back at the Emirates on both occasions. In the last round, their quarter-final against Napoli, Arsenal started at home, claimed a 2-0 win over the Italians and won the tie 3-0 on aggregate.

So they have a wonderful W9 D3 L1 record at home in the Europa League and in that sequence of games, the Gunners have scored 31 goals and have conceded eight. The Gunners have banked a clean sheet in each of their last five home games as well. The Gunners are the only ones of this season’s semi-finalists to have never won the UEFA Cup/Europa League before. There will be a concern there over their current form which has seen them lose three in a row, conceding exactly three goals in each of those defeats.

Arsenal v Valencia Head to Head

This will be the sixth match between Arsenal and Valencia
They were last together in the 2002/03 Champions League
Arsenal are winless in three against Valencia (D1 L2)
Valencia are W2 D2 L1 in the head to head against Arsenal

Valencia News and Form

Valencia may have had an eye on this tie as well as they have lost their last two league games. Valencia are still in the hunt for a run at a top-four finish in La Liga. Like Arsenal in the Premier League though, they have a lot of work to do in a short amount of time to get there. Valencia started this season in the Champions League where they took a W2 D2 L2 in their group to finish third behind Man Utd and Juventus.

The Spaniards then sent Celtic packing from the round of 32 before seeing off the challenge of Krasnodar. That set them up with a local derby against Villarreal. As expected Valencia got the better of their rivals, banked a 5-1 aggregate success in the title. That leaves Valencia unbeaten in their six Europa League games played this season. This is their third appearance in the semifinals of the Europa League, and their two previous appearances both ended in defeat against fellow Spanish teams.

Out on the road in Europe, Valencia have suffered just two defeats in their last seven games (W2 D3). They were on a run of four straight away defeats in the Europa League quarter-finals/semifinals before getting a 3-1 success at Villarreal in the last round. Valencia are a very solid defensively side, but they are not particularly lethal in front of goal. If you look at their La Liga campaign, they are the lowest scorers in the top six. Only one of their six Europa League matches this season have gone over 2.5 goals this season.

This is likely to be a close contest. Given what Arsenal did at home against Napoli in the first leg of the quarterfinals, they look the more likely of the two to pick up the victory. However, Valencia are absolutely no pushover and this could be tight. Arsean to win by a 1 goal margin at 11/4 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on April 30th, 2019 at 3:50 p.m.)

Chelsea News and Form

It was comfortable for a patient Chelsea side in the end at home against Dynamo Kiev in the first leg of this round of sixteen tie. Chelsea have never won in Ukraine before having gone D1 L1 there from their previous visits. The victory in the first leg gave Chelsea their eighth win in nine Europa League games this season (D1). After topping their group stage they comfortably beat Malmo 5-1 in the last round.

This is the second meeting between the two teams after having met in the 2015/16 Champions League group stage. There was a 0-0 draw between them in Kiev on that occasion. In their other game in Ukraine, Chelsea lost 2-1 at Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2013/14 Champions League. The Blues are unbeaten in twelve Europa League games now. They are W4 D1 in their last five away games in the competition. The Blues have won 11 of the 15 previous UEFA ties after a first-leg victory at home.

Dynamo Kiev News and Form

There is a big uphill task for Kiev then in this one. Like Chelsea, Dynamo Kiev also won their group in the Europa League and then edged a 3-2 aggregate win over Olympiakos in the last round. They do actually have some good home form against English sides. They have only suffered three defeats in their 14 previous home games against English opponents, winning five of those.

In the Europa League specifically, Dynamo Kiev are W2 D1 at home against English sides. They have won their two previous knockout ties as well in this competition against English opposition, Man City in 2010/11 and Everton in 2014/15. It doesn’t look too likely that they are going to pull off a win in this tie. Dynamo Kiev have lost just two of their last fourteen home games in Europe (W8 D4) which is a fine record. In 5 of their last 13 previous UEFA ties where they had lost the first leg away from home, Kiev fought back to win.

Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea Tips & Odds

Draw match outright at 12/5
Under 2.5 goals at 8/11

Who will win – Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea Predictions

There is little need for Chelsea to push in this one and given that Kiev have a pretty good home record against English sides, the draw may be the safest bet in the match outright.

Arsenal News and Form

So the Gunners have plenty of work to do. The Gunners cruised through the group stage of this competition but they had to come back in the last round after losing the first leg away from home. That was against Bate, Arsenal winning 3-0 back at the Emirates after a 1-0 away defeat. Arsenal have won only three of the 13 UEFA competition ties in which they were defeated away in the first leg, one of those happening against BATE.

The Gunners need the minimum of a 2-0 scoreline in this tie against Rennes. Alex Iwobi had put Arsenal ahead early in the first leg. But the telling point was a red card before half time for Sokratis Papastathopoulos. This will be Arsenal’s 26 game against French opposition and their 13th on home soil.

Arsenal have won only five of their previous 12 home games against French opposition, losing three. The last time they hosted a French side they played out a 2-2 draw against PSG in the 2016/17 Champions League group stage. The Gunners have won four of five two-legged UEFA ties against Frenchs sides. They lost their last one though, against Monaco in the 2014/15 Champions League.

Rennes News and Form

This is the most successful UEFA competition campaign from Rennes in their history. They only got through to the knockout stages by the skin of their teeth, winning a must-win match on matchday six. They then pulled off an upset in beats Real Bets in the round of 32. Their only previous experience against English opposition before this meeting with Arsenal was a 2001 Intertoto cup semi-final against Aston Villa in which the two traded home wins.

Rennes are in their second Europa League campaign, and only managed three points in their first attempt back in 2011/12. Rennes took a 1-0 win in the Czech Republic on matchday five to beat Jablonec and that was their first away win in eight games. They followed that up with a very impressive 3-1 win at Betis. Rennes have won four of the previous six UEFA ties after having won the first leg at home.

Arsenal v Rennes Tips & Odds

Both teams to score at 10/11
Arsenal to win & both teams to score at 7/4

Who will win – Arsenal v Rennes Predictions

The Gunners have enough scoring power behind them to get the win on the board at the Emirates. But they are vulnerable at the back and Rennes can make this interesting by getting on the scoresheet. Arsenal to win & both teams to score.
