France will not have been expecting to meet Brazil in the round of sixteen. Especially not after winning their group. But because of misfires, the Brazilians could only take third place in the group behind Italy and Australia which leaves them in this position. Will they be able to come up with a challenge for the hosts? Read our France Women v Brazil Women betting tips for more.

France opened their campaign with a thrilling 4-0 win over South Korea and the French looked so good. They did in the first half of their game against Norway as well in their second group stage fixture. But they have had their luck with a controversial penalty kick going their way to beat Norway 2-1. They then needed a retaken spot kick, after captain Wendie Renard had hit the post with the first effort, to beat Nigeria 1-0. So they did have their struggles, but when the French are on song, they look very good.
However, with a lot of wasted chances against Nigeria, other teams will see them as fallible. It is an eight-match winning streak that they are currently on right now and they have taken a clean sheet in three of their last five. They do have such quality in their ranks then when it comes together, they are going to take some stopping. Eugenie Le Sommer is at 11/10 in the anytime goalscorer market for the game. She has looked well up for it during the tournament. The French have won six of their eight World Cup games now, with just one goal conceded in those victories. There’s a tough challenge to come against Brazil now.
What is to come from Brazil is just anyone’s guess at this point. They were on a nine-match losing streak before the start of the World Cup. They opened though with a convincing 3-0 win over Jamaica but then fell apart in their second game. The Brazilians threw away a 2-0 lead against Australia in their second fixture to end up losing 3-2. But credit where it’s due, even though they were run ragged by Italy in their final match, they dug in there and scraped out a 1-0 win thanks to a Marta penalty kick.
While they have that strong partnership of Marta and Christiane up front they will have a chance. They have not looked convincing at the back at all and should have been beaten by Italy really. That having been said Brazil have failed to score in three of their last five games and the reasons why they lost so many games ahead of the tournament, can be seen. They look like individuals for long periods of games, opposed to playing together. There doesn’t look to be a leader at the back. Brazil are W3 L2 in their last five World Cup games. Three of their last four wins at the tournament have all been 1-0 results.
There’s surely no way that Brazil can keep up with the pace and power of France, that is of course if the French come out and play that way. France really have nothing to fear and Brazil’s defence is there for the taking. France to win to nil.

Italy have really shown up well at this tournament having banked back-to-back opening wins. They are on course for winning Group C as well and to do that they just need a point out of this game. Brazil totally fell apart in their second match, throwing away a big lead to end up losing against Australia. Can they come up with a response? Italy Women 9/5

Italy have looked like one of the best sides at the Women’s World Cup so far. They came firing out of the gates and caused an upset in beating Australia in their opening fixture. They followed that up with a 5-0 thumping of Jamaica in their second fixture. So that big goal difference advantage leaves them in a spot where they will be advancing to the next round. Even if things don’t go their away on the day they will, in the worst-case scenario, move through as one of the best third-place finishers. Italy had just look so and pretty much in control of their own destiny.
Barbara Bonansea scored a hattrick for them in their first match and then Cristiana Girelli matched that in their second game. So that is seven goals which they have put on the board so far in their two games. How they would love to move through to the next round with some huge momentum of having beaten Brazil as well. Italy are currently on a four-match winning streak, scoring a least two goals in each of those successes. They have scored at least two goals in all 10 games played in 2019. Their clean sheet against Jamaica is their only one recorded in their last seven games played though.
Where do Brazil go from here? They were on a seven-match losing streak heading into the women’s World Cup 2019, but they actually looked good in their opener. Brazil took a 3-0 victory over Jamaica with Christiane netting a hat-trick for them. But now looking back it is questionable as to whether or not it was slightly weaker opposition that was making Brazil look good. Because of that win over Jamaica though Brazil started confidently against Australia in their second group fixture, stretching out to a 2-0 lead in the game. But they conceded just before half-time which turned the game on its head.
They allowed Australia to come back at them, as their defence came under more and more pressure, more and more mistakes were being made. That loss and the manner of it will have really knocked Brazil’s confidence. You stack that up on top of the amount of matches that they have lost stretching back to October last year, and you have to be a little bit wary of their chances in this one. So far their superstar Marta has only played 45 minutes of action. How badly they need her fit. It is going to be tense and it is most likely going to be an end to end thriller.
Given that neither of these have look particularly great at the back, it is worth expecting goals at both ends. Italy just look superbly confident at the moment and may well be able to handle themselves. It is well worth backing the Europeans in a double chance wager. Who knows what Brazil’s mentality is going to be like?

Australia were the first team to suffer an upset at the Women’s World Cup 2019 as they slipped to defeat against Italy in their opener. So now that puts huge pressure on them in what has suddenly exploded into being a highly competitive group. Can they make amends against Brazil who haven’t been in good form at all, but who opened with a very good win over Jamaica? Read our Australia Women v Brazil Women betting tips for more.

Their opening defeat against Italy was a huge hammer blow for Australia who had been pegged as one of the tournament dark horses. Australia had opened the scoring as well through their young goal scoring superstar Sam Kerr but then just couldn’t hold on. Italy came back at them in the second half and scored the winner in the 95th minute. So that leaves Australia with a lot of work to do now to break into the top two.
This could be incredibly difficult to do if they were to suffer a defeat against Brazil in this one. The way the tournament is set up, the fourth best third-placed teams will also qualify for the round of 16. So there is still that route open to them and knowing that they have an easy game to round off with against Jamaica will keep their belief up.
The thing about Australia is that they do have great scoring power about them, but their defence does look slightly unreliable. Australia just hit a bit of bad form now at the wrong time, having lost three in a row. Prior to the start of the World Cup, they had faced the United States and the Netherlands in international friendlies and lost both of those heavily.
So the Matildas are going to have to dig really deep to come up with a response. They had been on a four-match winning streak prior to that, scoring 14 goals in those four fixtures. Australia have only failed to score in one of their last eight games now, scoring a least two goals in six of their last eight.
Brazil were in some poor form heading to 2019 Women’s World Cup. They had lost seven games in a row since October last year and a fair chunk of those defeats were against some of the front runners to win this summer’s tournament. But they pulled things together on the day in their opening fixture of the tournament against Jamaica, securing a 3-0 victory. They actually looked pretty impressive and together in that game, but of course will face much stiffer challenges than what the Caribbean nation put up against them. Striker Christiane became the oldest scorer of the World Cup hat-trick as she got all three of Brazil’s goals against Jamaica.
They were struggling for goals leading up to the World Cup scoring a one-goal only across their three games ahead of the tournament. They were in competitive action earlier this year when they faced England, Japan and the United States at the SheBelievesCup, Brazil losing each of those games. Now the big question about them is whether or not they are going to be able to turn out a better performance against stronger team that is Australia. If they were to do so they would fully take control of this group. Brazil incidentally didn’t use striker Marta in their opening fixture.
It will be interesting to see if Australia can play to their potential in this one. A win against Jamaica proves nothing really that Brazil have turned the corner from their poor run of form. Australia to win this fixture still looks a decent proposition, especially with them being the more desperate of the two to find a winner.
