It was a masterclass from Lionel Messi and co in midweek as they destroyed Tottenham in the Champions League. They needed that win as they had been in a funk of winless results. Valencia haven’t been having a great season but they got a good Champions League point at Manchester United in midweek. Can they keep Barcelona at bay though? Read our Valencia v Barcelona betting tips for more.
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on October 4th, 2018 at 1:53 p.m.)
It has been a strange season for Valencia because they have been really hard to beat, but at the same time, they have struggled to record wins. They head into the weekend with a W1 D5 L1 record this season in La Liga. They got their first win of the term in a 1-0 win at Real Sociedad last weekend. They have come up with only the two goals in their last four games and have been far from proficient in front of goals this season. The under 2.5 goals option looks solid at 27/20 odds for this* (betting odds taken on October 5th, 2018 at 2:32 pm).
Valencia have drawn their three home games this season, two at 1-1 including their home opener which was against Atletico Madrid. The other was a 0-0 tie. Just 14% of their games this season home and away combined have made it over 2.5 goals. So they should have the strengths to at least keep the score down in this one. Valencia have seen under 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 home matches against Barcelona in all competitions as well.
Barcelona’s league form hasn’t been great lately so this is a big game for them at the Mestalla. They are top of the table but have failed to win any of their last three (D2 L1). The only league defeat that they have suffered this season did happen in their last away fixture as they suffered a shock 2-1 loss at bottom side Leganes. Overall the Catalans are W4 D2 L1 this season and they have scored in all seven of their fixtures. We are looking at both teams NOT to score at 5/4 odds* (betting odds taken on October 5th, 2018 at 2:32 pm).
Barcelona don’t have a clean sheet in any of their last five league games, but Valencia aren’t a great threat. Because of the sheer brilliance of Lionel Messi in midweek, who got a brace against Spurs, he is worth a look at 13/5 in the first goalscorer market* (betting odds taken on October 5th, 2018 at 2:32 pm). On their travels in La Liga this season Barcelona have scored four goals in their three games, which isn’t a high output. They have scored all but one of their away goals in the second half of matches.
These two met four times last season (league and Copa del Rey) and Barcelona came out on top with three wins and a draw. The draw was in this corresponding fixture. Barcelona are undefeated in their last six against Valencia in all competitions. Barcelona have scored at least two goals in four of their last six against Valencia.
The result that Barcelona got in midweek should have given them a big lift. That was Barcelona back to their very best and we expect them to push on from there. Valencia haven’t been that strong this season and we are backing the away win.

Barcelona suffered a shock defeat in league action in midweek, conceding two goals in two minutes to lose against bottom side Levante. That will have rocked them and it will be interesting to see the response that they have. They play host to Athletic Bilbao at the Nou Camp on the weekend, who aren’t carrying winning form with them. Read our Barcelona v Athletic Bilbao betting tips for more.
Athletic Bilbao 16/1
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on September 26th, 2018 at 11:44 p.m.)
After winning their first four games of the season Barcelona have picked up just the one point in their last two games. That was a draw against Girona and then that shock loss against Leganes in midweek. They had to come from behind to rescue that point against Girona and then threw away the lead at Leganes. So they have just had a bit of a testing time. Their form at the Nou Camp in the league this season is W2 D1 and they have scored thirteen goals in those three games.
The obvious look here, especially with the goals that Barcelona have been conceding, is to go over 2.5 goals. There’s not much value in that of course so we are going to swing under 3.5 goals at 10/11 odds* (betting odds taken on September 27th, 2018 at 5:28 pm) which looks much better. The Catalins have not banked a clean sheet in any of their last four league games now. Just because of that then a Barcelona 2-1 option in the correct score could offer a bit of value at the moment at 15/2 odds* (betting odds taken on September 27th, 2018 at 5:28 pm).
Bilbao have posted a W1 D3 L1 record for the season and they did show up well recently in a big contest. They played out a 1-1 home draw with Real Madrid. It came unstuck for them in midweek though as they were hammered 3-0 at home by Villarreal. That is no clean sheet for Athletic Bilbao this season then and that is going to leave them vulnerable for this trip to the Nou Camp on Saturday.
You have a quote of even money on both teams to score in the match* (betting odds taken on September 27th, 2018 at 5:28 pm) which backs them to at least get a consolation on the board in the game. Away from home this season Bilbao have posted the one draw. That’s the extent of their road games this season. That was a 2-2 draw against Real Betis last weekend. So that is four-match winless streak (D3 L1) that they are on at the moment and it looks a bit of a stretch to see them causing an upset at the Nou Camp.
Barcelona have winning home form against Athletic Bilbao as they are on a six-match winning streak at the Nou Camp against them in all competitions. Barcelona have scored at least three goals in five of those six matches in that sequence. Overall home and away Barcelona have won the last four meetings against Bilbao, losing just one of the last eleven against them.
We are expecting a response from Barcelona. That is the natural thing to expect really. Their results have dropped and you can’t really expect that to go on much further. That will probably have had a rocket up them and we will back a Barcelona win & both teams to score.
28th September 2018 / lee - Category: European Football Betting
Barcelona dropped their first points of the new season over the weekend as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home against Girona. That was an unexpected turn up for the books. They head out on the road in midweek to take on Leganes who have been having a shocking time of things with just one point from five games. Read our Leganes v Barcelona betting tips for more.
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on September 24th, 2018 at 6:34 p.m.)
Leganes have had a miserable start to the La Liga season with just the one point on the board from their five games played so far this term. That point was earned in their second match of the season, a home draw against Real Sociedad. They have lost their last two games by a 1-0 scoreline but as they are facing Barcelona we are going to look a little larger. A comfortable Barcelona 2-0 option is at 6/1 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from September 24th, 2018 at 6:34 p.m.).
In total Leganes have scored just the four goals in their games this season and half of those have been at home. Leganes have been level at half time and losing at full time in each of their last three matches so there is a trend running there with that. Each of their last four games against Barcelona in all competitions have gone over 2.5 goals so there’s another trend* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on September 24th, 2018 at 6:34 p.m.).
Barcelona had to rescue a point against Girona in a Catalan derby on the weekend, Gerard Pique getting an equaliser in a 2-2 draw for them after they had had defender Clement Lenglet sent off. That leaves them with a pretty handy W4 D1 record for the season though and they are likely to bounce straight back to winning ways in midweek. Barcelona have won both of their away games this season, taking down Valladolid and Real Sociedad both by a one-goal margin.
So it hasn’t been big wins for them on the road yet and because of that the more conservative Barcelona to win by a 2-goal margin appeals at 10/3 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on September 24th, 2018 at 6:34 p.m.) as they are taking on one of the bottom sides in the league. All three of their away goals this season have come after the halftime break in matches.
There have only been the four previous games between the two clubs and Barcelona have won all four of them. They have scored a total of twelve goals in their four games against Girona, netting at least three goals in three of those. Surprisingly they have taken just the one clean sheet in those four games.
Barcelona should be comfortable in this one out on the road against the bottom side in the league. They had a blip last weekend but can respond strongly and Barcelona to win to nil is the obvious option to look for in Leganes v Barcelona betting tips.

Four games played in the Spanish top flight this season and it is four wins for Barcelona. The Catalans have shown some scoring muscle on home soil as well as they have rattled off a remarkable eleven goals in two games at the Nou Camp. It has been impressive stuff from them and Lionel Messi has been well among the goals. He has four goals to his name already this season and all four of those have been on home soil. That makes Messi the 15/8 first goalscorer favourite for the match* (betting odds taken on September 21st, 2018 at 4:15 pm).
Barcelona have won 30 of their last 33 home games in La Liga now and they have scored at least two goals in 30 of their last 33 at the Nou Camp. Their numbers are just so impressive and we are going to look over 3.5 goals at 10/3 odds* (betting odds taken on September 21st, 2018 at 4:15 pm) because they could have a field day the way they are playing at the moment. Even coming off the back of midweek Champions League action there shouldn’t be a let up in Barcelona’s form. A Barcelona 3-0 correct score is at 13/2 odds* (betting odds taken on September 21st, 2018 at 4:15 pm).
Girona have won their last two games in the top flight, taking out Villarreal and Celta Vigo. That was after picking up just the one point from their opening two games of the season. Their only loss in their W2 D1 L1 record this season was a heavy home reverse against Real Madrid, losing that one 4-1. So that is a pretty decent indicator of what could happen this weekend. This will be just their second away game of the new season, their other one ending in a 1-0 at Villarreal which was actually a really good result. In three of their four games, this season Girona have been drawing at half time. That could be a stretch in this one though and a Barcelona/Barcelona half-time/ full-time bet is as short as 4/11 odds* (betting odds taken on September 21st, 2018 at 4:15 pm).
There is not much head to head form between the two clubs as last season’s two games in La Liga are the only previous meetings between them. Barcelona took a 6-1 home win in this corresponding fixture last season after producing a 3-0 win out on the road against them.
The simple option for Barcelona v Girona betting tips is to back the home side to win to nil. Barcelona Have shown some fine form already this season and shouldn’t get tripped up in this home fixture against a side they beat comfortably last season.

Real Sociedad have had a mixed time of things so far in the new La Liga season and they will be heading into their first home fixture of the term. What a game it is as well as they host Barcelona. The Catalans are just one of two sides in the league to have won all three of their games played so far. Can they keep their strong early moment going? Read our Sociedad v Barcelona betting tips for more.
Real Sociedad 11/2
* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on September 12th, 2018 at 1:14 p.m.)
So Real Sociedad will be kicking off their home campaign with this one and it’s a tough one for them to get stuck into. Naturally with no home form because of no action so far this season, we aren’t sure what we are going to get from Sociedad. Their away form for the season reads W1 D1 L1 and their defense hasn’t been at the races. They have conceded five goals in their three games and that’s not tight enough to expect them to shut out Barcelona.
Just before the international break Sociedad lost at Eibar. We are going to back the home side to at least get on the scoresheet though and both teams to score is at 4/7 odds* (betting odds taken on September 12th, 2018 at 9:04 pm). Last season on home soil in the Spanish top flight Sociedad posted a W10 D3 L6 record but they lost three of their games on home soil against the top-four finishers (W1 against Atletico Madrid). Are they good enough to stand toe to toe with Barcelona? Sociedad are on an eleven match scoring streak at home.
Barcelona are chugging along with three straight wins. Just before the international break, they destroyed the newly promoted Huesca 8-2 at the Nou Camp. In their only away game so far this season they edged out a 1-0 win at Valladolid. We think that Real Sociedad may be a little more open at the back and a Barcelona -1.25 Asian Handicap is at 9/10 odds* (betting odds taken on September 12th, 2018 at 9:04 pm). Lionel Messi has four goals so far this season but all four of those have been at home. Ousmane Dembele has their only away goal this term. So far,
It was back to back wins for Barcelona in their matches against Sociedad last season. They have collected a win in each of their last five against them in all competitions, undefeated six. Barcelona have won all but one of their previous home games against Sociedad in all competitions (D1). The Catalans have scored thirteen goals in their last four games against Real Sociedad alone.
We don’t see Barcelona slipping up against a side who are yet to find their feet for the season. It will be a big game for Real Sociedad as it is their first home fixture of the term, but still, they may not have enough of an answer to stop the visitors. It might be worth looking at Barcelona -1.25 Asian Handicap.

It has been a solid start for Barcelona in their La Liga title defence,. It is two wins from two and no goal conceded just from the Catalans. They get back to home soil this weekend where they will take on top-flight newcomers Huesca. Interestingly though, Huesca have done a brilliant job of picking up four points from their opening two games. Read our Barcelona v SD Huesca betting tips for more.
SD Huesca 23/1
* (Betting Odds were taken from August 28th, 2018 at 2:13 a.m.)
Barcelona have made a good winning start to the new season having posted back to back clean sheet wins over Alaves and Valladolid. They had to work hard out at Valladolid for their points last weekend with Ousmane Dembele getting the only goal of the game in the second half for them. Barcelona to win to nil is at 8/13 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 28th, 2018 at 2:01 a.m.) and that is a leading option for our Barcelona v Huesca odds.
You imagine that the Catalans will be fine at home against a newly promoted side. Because the Catalans haven’t conceded yet this season and they go into what should be relatively comfortable home game then it leaves some good options in the correct score market where a Barcelona 3-0 is appealing at 11/2 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 28th, 2018 at 2:01 a.m.).
Huesca have made a great start to the season after their promotion. They have backed four points from their two games so far and they were both road games as well. This is third away game on the bounce and easily their toughest. To their further credit, they have scored exactly two goals in both of their games so far.
Even if they don’t get on the scoresheet here we are sticking with under 3.5 goals at 5/4 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 28th, 2018 at 2:01 a.m.) for our Barcelona v Huesca predictions. That will back up the 3-0 correct score of course that we are predicting for the home side. So the newcomers have done well out of the gate on their first ever season in the top flight. This is a different challenge altogether for them though.
There’s not much head to head to look back at for this one. These two have played just two games before, which were the two legs of their 2014/15 Copa del Rey clash. Barcelona put a convincing 12-1 aggregate win on the board, winning 8-1 at the Nou Camp.
Barcelona to win to nil tops our Barcelona v Huesca betting tips here. The Catalans are going to enjoy plenty of the ball and while their opponents have made a strong start to life in the top flight, this is a challenge unlike which they have faced yet.

Barcelona got themselves off a comfortable winning start in their La Liga title defence as they banked a 3-0 home success over Alaves last weekend with Lionel Messi opening his account with a brace. They head out on the road for the first time this season to face Valladolid who battled to a point away from home at Girona. Read our Valladolid v Barcelona betting tips for more.
* (Betting Odds were taken from August 20th, 2018 at 11:13 p.m.)
It is going to be a long hard slog for Valladolid after their promotion to the top flight. They did make something of a positive start to the league season though as they collected a 0-0 draw out at Girona last weekend to get their first point on the board. This is their first top-flight season since their relegation in 2014 when they collected just the seven wins in the course of the term. This is naturally going to be a much sterner test for them and both teams not to score is a solid Valladolid v Barcelona betting tip at 4/6 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 20th, 2018 at 11:13 p.m.). It isn’t too probable that they are going to see enough of the ball to hurt Barcelona. They had just two shots in their game against Girona last weekend and took just 35% of possession in the game. It could be a long evening for them.
Barcelona opened with a comfortable 3-0 win at home against Alaves last weekend. Lionel Messi was straight off the mark with two goals in the game. Messi is the first goalscorer favourite at 9/4 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 20th, 2018 at 11:13 p.m.). It was an expected strong start from them on home soil, nothing too out of the ordinary there. Barcelona produced 25 shots in that fixture and ran with 73% of possession. You can only imagine that they are going to get plenty of chances in this one. Last season away from home the Catalans produced a W12 D6 L1 record in La Liga.
The lone defeat, which was at Levante was in their final away game of the season and ruined their overall shot at an unbeaten season. Strangely before that as well Barcelona had alternated between a win and a draw in their eight previous road games. Barcelona averaged 2.4 goals per game last season away from home and because of that, a Barcelona 2-0 correct score option at 11/2 does look a reasonable shot for this one* (Betting Odds were taken from August 20th, 2018 at 11:13 p.m.). Not too surprisingly Barcelona scored in each and every one of their road games last season.
This is the first meeting between Valladolid and Barcelona since the 2013/14 season of the Spanish top flight. There was actually a big upset that season as the two clubs traded home wins that season, Valladolid banking a 1-0 home win over the Blaugrana. Mind you Barcelona were on an eight-match winning streak against them before that. The overall head to head reads 23-4 in Barcelona’s favour with five draws.
We don’t see anything other than three points going to Barcelona in his one. They looked sharp enough out of the gates to suggest that they aren’t going to get tripped up in this one as they did on their last visit there. We are going to comfortably back a Barcelona to win to nil option for our Valladolid v Barcelona predictions.

Reigning champions of Spain, Barcelona make a start in their title defence in a home fixture against Alaves on the weekend. It has not been a big summer of blockbuster transfers from Barcelona which suggests that they are happy with their stock. Alaves finished in the bottom half of La Liga last season but did make the Catalans work hard in both of their league meetings. Read our Barcelona v Alaves betting tips for more.
* (Betting Odds were taken from August 15th, 2018 at 5:41 p.m.)
Barcelona begin their title defence and they are the 3/4 odds-on favourites to win La Liga this season* (Betting Odds were taken from August 15th, 2018 at 5:41 p.m.). Barcelona remained unbeaten on home soil last season in the Spanish top flight, winning sixteen of their nineteen games at the Nou Camp. They averaged 2.79 goals per game at home last season and were leading at halftime in thirteen home fixtures.
But the Barcelona/Barcelona half-time/ full-time option is not offering a great deal of value so we are going to look in the bet365 correct score market. A Barcelona 2-0 correct score is at 11/2 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 15th, 2018 at 5:41 p.m.). The Catalans have held on to their elite players so it is pretty much as they were. They will be looking for more out of Ousmane Dembele though while they have added Arthur, Malcolm and Arturo Vidal to their ranks over the summer.
Alaves booked a 14th place finish in La Liga last season. They opened with a horrible run of six straight defeats for the season and they posted a W1 D0 L9 record across their first ten games. They would have been hoping for a positive start to this term but this is just about the worst fixture they could have pulled out.
They did improve drastically over the second half of the season it has to be said though, to their huge credit. But they lost all of their away games against last season’s top four finishers and scored just one goal on their visit to the top three finishers. They would do well to keep this under 2.5 goals which is a 21/10 odds option* (Betting Odds were taken from August 15th, 2018 at 5:41 p.m.) but we don’t see them getting on the scoresheet.
Last season’s encounters between the two sides saw Barcelona came away with back to back wins over Alaves. Barcelona are on a four-match winning streak against them in all competitions and two of their last three league victories over them have been with a clean sheet. They don’t have a clean sheet in any of their last four at home against them though.
The only outcome in this fixture should be a win for the home side but there isn’t much value in that in the outright market, so we are looking deeper for our Barcelona v Alaves betting tips. The Barcelona to win to nil option appeals but we are going to look at a Barcelona 2-0 correct score option.
16th August 2018 / lee - Category: European Football Betting
It is why football is such a great game. Barcelona were just two games from completing a historic unbeaten season. They had just come through tough games against Villarreal and Real Madrid and then their streak fell down against Levante on the weekend, a side just above the drop zone. Barcelona still have the title in their bag but it was a shock loss for them. Real Sociedad are playing for nothing.
Barcelona 1/4, Draw 5/1, Real Sociedad 9/1 (Betting Odds taken at 8:05 p.m. on May 14th, 2018)
So the pressure of the unbeaten season is off Barcelona after that crazy 5-4 loss at Levante on the weekend. You won’t see a worse defensive performance ever from them and they were 5-1 down at one point and in the end, couldn’t come up with an equaliser in the last twenty minutes. They didn’t have Lionel Messi playing as they took a crazy risk and rested him. Philippe Coutinho netted a hattrick in the game though and was brilliant for the Catalans. But Messi should be back in the starting line up for their final game of the term and will head up the bet365 first goalscorer market. Barcelona’s home record is W15 D3 L0 for the season and they have scored in each of their last seven. They thumped Villarreal 5-1 in their last home game and have scored at least two goals in each of their last five at the Nou Camp. They have conceded a lot of goals lately and in the bet365 correct score market a Barcelona 3-1 at 9/1 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 8:05 p.m. on May 14th, 2018). Both teams have scored in each of Barcelona’s last eight league games.
So both teams to score at bet365 is at 2/5 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 8:05 p.m. on May 14th, 2018) and as there is nothing riding on this game it is worth looking for goals and over 4.5 goals is as short as 10/11 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 8:05 p.m. on May 14th, 2018). Real Sociedad start the game in mid-table and they have won five of their last seven games played (L2). The two defeats in that sequence though were in their last two away games, suffering defeats at the relegated Malaga and then seventh-placed Sevilla. Sociedad have some shocking away form on the board this season with a W4 D4 L10 record and they have won just one of their last fourteen road games. So it’s unlikely they are going to break out a win in this one and they have lost at each of the other top five this season but did score in each of those defeats. Sociedad have averaged just over a goal per game on their travels and have managed a clean sheet in just over a quarter of their road games. Points may be hard to come by in this one for them.
When the two met earlier this season back in January, Barcelona collected a 4-2 away win over Sociedad and that is a five-match unbeaten streak that they are on against them at the moment home and away in the league. Each of the last three meetings in all competitions have produced at least five goals in them. Barcelona are on a 21 match winning streak at home against Sociedad in all competitions and that is from 23 previous times they have hosted them (W22 D1).
Barcelona will be hurting from that loss against Levante last weekend and they were shockingly poor at the back. So it’s worth backing goals to flow at the Nou Camp in this one so look for a home win & over 3.5 goals.
17th May 2018 / lee - Category: European Football Betting
Barcelona will go in search of edging closer to completing a full unbeaten season in La Liga. They played out an ill-tempered 2-2 draw with rivals Real Madrid on the weekend, having to get through the second half with ten men. They will be facing a Villarreal side who have found a bit of form with a three-match winning streak going.
Barcelona 3/10, Draw 9/2, Villarreal 15/2* (Betting Odds taken at 3:35 a.m. on May 6th, 2018)
Barcelona would have been happy to have settled for the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid on the weekend under the circumstances. They lost Sergi Roberto just before half time to a red card with the score at 1-1. Despite that Lionel Messi put them ahead in the second half but they couldn’t hold out for the three points. It doesn’t really matter. Barcelona have won the league and they are trying to close in on the history of completing the season unbeaten something which has never been done in the modern era of La Liga. Barcelona are W14 D3 at home this season in the league and after this one, they face two bottom half of the table sides to close out the season with. Get through this and they should close out the term without defeat. A Barcelona/Barcelona half-time/ full-time bet for 4/5 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 11:07 a.m. on May 6th, 2018) is a good option at bet365 as the Blaugrana have been leading at half time in 12 of their 17 home games. Lionel Messi is the top scorer for the season in La Liga and Barcelona to win to nil will appeal too as they have won 53% of their home games to nil.
There is a lot riding on this game for Villarreal who are only two points out of fifth place in the league. This is their game in hand over fifth-placed Real Betis so could make a move if they can dig out a win, which isn’t going to be easy. Villarreal are on a three-match winning streak at the moment, all of those were home games though and their last one was against fourth-placed Valencia on the weekend. So that was a good result. Their away form is not up to much at the moment as they are only W1 D2 L2 in their last five on the road. Their away record overall this season is W6 D4 L7 so average at best and they have averaged just a goal per game on their travels. Four of their seven defeats away from home this season have been by a one-goal margin only and Barcelona to win by a one-goal margin at bet365 is at 3/1 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 11:07 a.m. on May 6th, 2018). 67% of the goals that they have conceded away from home this term have come in the second half of matches. Even though they are in form, taking a win at the Nou Camp may be out of their reach.
Barcelona were 2-0 winners over Villarreal earlier this season and that leaves them with back to back wins over them. Barcelona are undefeated in their last nineteen games against Villarreal in all competitions. They are on a seven-match winning streak at the Nou Camp against them.
Barcelona are not likely to let things slip now at this stage of the season. The fact that they still took the lead against Real Madrid with ten men and weren’t beaten says a lot about them. Look for them to edge this one at the Nou Camp
