It is on to the knockout stage of the Women’s World Cup and there is a good game to come in this one. The Norwegians were neat and tidy through their group stage campaign, finishing second to France. Australia meanwhile have fought back tremendously from some early setbacks to have reached this stage. Read our Norway Women v Australia Women betting tips for more.

Norway took wins over Nigeria and South Korea in the group stage, while suffering a 2-1 loss against France. That was a controversial defeat though it has to be said. The loss against the French is just their second loss in their last seven fixtures, winning each of the other five. They are not a bad side at all are the Norwegians. They always look strong and organised. The one thing though which has been a little surprising is that they have not looked as defensively tight as we expected them to be.
They have taken just one clean sheet in their last five games now. That will be a bit of a concern in taking on the powerful Australia attack. Norway though have scored in six of their last seven games and have scored at least two goals in three of their last four. So it has not been a bad output from them by any stretch of the imagination. It does look as if they will have enough about them to get past the Australian defence, which also isn’t that stable. It could make for an entertaining knockout stage game.
After losing their opening game against Italy, who are the surprise package of the tournament, Australia looked to be heading home. Just before the break in their second group match against Brazil, the Matildas were 2-0 down. But they then put in an inspired performance to produce a 3-2 success. That was some effort from them. They qualified in style than with a 4-1 win over Jamaica with superstar Sam Kerr taking bagging all of their goals. That is five goals in the tournament from her now.
Kerr is the even-money favourite in the anytime goalscorer market for this one* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 21st, 2019 at 6:24 p.m.). The form of Australia is not actually great at the moment. They were on a three-match losing streak just, conceding ten goals in those three games. So their response has been good. Australia always seem to be full of goals that is the great entertaining an aspect of them. They are just not very good at the back. All but one of Australia’s last seven games have gone over 2.5 goals. The Australians are now W4 D1 L2 in their last seven World Cup fixtures. They are just one of those awkward teams to play against. England could be facing the winner of this game in the quarterfinals.
Australia just have that extra cut and thrust going forward and can progress through this tie. They have the star power of Sam Kerr and that could be a difference maker on the day. This could be entertaining an open and therefore Australia to win & both teams to score.

Jamaica will likely be heading home after this fixture having failed to collect a point from their opening two games. Australia still have a great shot at a top-two finish and will really need to pull off a win in order to get there. Group C has been the most competitive group so far and it is likely that one of the third best finishers will be coming from this group. The plucky Jamaica side came away empty-handed from their opening game, suffering a 3-0 reverse against Brazil. It got worse for them in their second fixture as Italy thumped them 5-0. So that is a massive goal difference disadvantage that they have now. It means that even if they were to pull off a win they wouldn’t get into third place in the group. So this will be their swansong for the tournament and a chance to put some shine on what has otherwise been a disappointing campaign for them.
It is a total of 11 goals that Jamaica have now conceded in their last three games played. That’s not great reading for them as they face up to a free-scoring Australia team. This is their first ever World Cup campaign played by Jamaica winning, so will they be able to at least get their first World Cup goal on the board? It is going to be tough against a very strong Australia team who have everything to play for still.
After falling in their opening fixture to a shock 2-1 reverse against Italy, a game in which Australia threw away the lead, the Matildas produced a stunning comeback to keep themselves in this group. They found themselves 2-0 down against Brazil heading towards half-time in their second group stage fixture. But then the game turned on its head as Australia scrambled home a goal just before the break. That was a huge momentum changer for the Australians. They totally turned the game around with two second-half goals to claim a 3-2 victory. So they are now level on points with Brazil in the group, trailing group leaders Italy by three points.
Italy are going to advance on goal difference regardless of their result against Brazil. But there will be an incentive for Australia to come out and run a few goals up on the board to boost their own goal difference either to beat Brazil to second place in the table or to guarantee that they get through as one of the best third-placed teams. Australia are a really bold side, however, they are not that strong at the back as they have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four games now. But they do have goals in them. The Matildas have scored at least two goals in seven of their last nine games. Australia are W5 L4 in that sequence of games.
We can’t see Jamaica having any real input in this game and therefore it should be a comfortable victory for Australia. The Australians just need to get on the front foot early on and start attacking for those goals that they need. Australia to win to nil.

Australia were the first team to suffer an upset at the Women’s World Cup 2019 as they slipped to defeat against Italy in their opener. So now that puts huge pressure on them in what has suddenly exploded into being a highly competitive group. Can they make amends against Brazil who haven’t been in good form at all, but who opened with a very good win over Jamaica? Read our Australia Women v Brazil Women betting tips for more.

Their opening defeat against Italy was a huge hammer blow for Australia who had been pegged as one of the tournament dark horses. Australia had opened the scoring as well through their young goal scoring superstar Sam Kerr but then just couldn’t hold on. Italy came back at them in the second half and scored the winner in the 95th minute. So that leaves Australia with a lot of work to do now to break into the top two.
This could be incredibly difficult to do if they were to suffer a defeat against Brazil in this one. The way the tournament is set up, the fourth best third-placed teams will also qualify for the round of 16. So there is still that route open to them and knowing that they have an easy game to round off with against Jamaica will keep their belief up.
The thing about Australia is that they do have great scoring power about them, but their defence does look slightly unreliable. Australia just hit a bit of bad form now at the wrong time, having lost three in a row. Prior to the start of the World Cup, they had faced the United States and the Netherlands in international friendlies and lost both of those heavily.
So the Matildas are going to have to dig really deep to come up with a response. They had been on a four-match winning streak prior to that, scoring 14 goals in those four fixtures. Australia have only failed to score in one of their last eight games now, scoring a least two goals in six of their last eight.
Brazil were in some poor form heading to 2019 Women’s World Cup. They had lost seven games in a row since October last year and a fair chunk of those defeats were against some of the front runners to win this summer’s tournament. But they pulled things together on the day in their opening fixture of the tournament against Jamaica, securing a 3-0 victory. They actually looked pretty impressive and together in that game, but of course will face much stiffer challenges than what the Caribbean nation put up against them. Striker Christiane became the oldest scorer of the World Cup hat-trick as she got all three of Brazil’s goals against Jamaica.
They were struggling for goals leading up to the World Cup scoring a one-goal only across their three games ahead of the tournament. They were in competitive action earlier this year when they faced England, Japan and the United States at the SheBelievesCup, Brazil losing each of those games. Now the big question about them is whether or not they are going to be able to turn out a better performance against stronger team that is Australia. If they were to do so they would fully take control of this group. Brazil incidentally didn’t use striker Marta in their opening fixture.
It will be interesting to see if Australia can play to their potential in this one. A win against Jamaica proves nothing really that Brazil have turned the corner from their poor run of form. Australia to win this fixture still looks a decent proposition, especially with them being the more desperate of the two to find a winner.

Australia have been tipped as one of the dark horses of the tournament and they are kicking off in their opener as the odds-on favourites. Australia had put together a run of four straight victories earlier this year which put them in good stead ahead of the World Cup. They won all three of their games at the Cup of Nations, beating New Zealand, South Korea and Argentina. They did have a more difficult and testing time just ahead of the start of the tournament as they lost back-to-back friendly fixtures against reigning world champions USA and reigning European champions the Netherlands. So overall that leaves Australia with a W4 L3 record in their last seven games. In those two defeats ahead of the World Cup against the USA and the Netherlands, Australia conceded eight goals in total.
But the thing about Australia is that they have great scoring power themselves. Youngster Sam Kerr is one of the leading strikers in the world and if they are able to create chances for her she is going to put them away. Australia have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven games. The one failure to do so came in their 3-0 reverse against the Netherlands in their last warmup match ahead of the World Cup. Australia also have Mary Fowler who is 16, may become the youngest ever player to appear at a World Cup. Australia should be competitive in this group which also contains Brazil.
Italy are nation on the up in the women’s game. It has been 20 years since they last played in the tournament. They have had a really good year as a sign of their progress, remaining undefeated through the calendar year. They also had an easy time in qualifying for the World Cup, powering their way to a win in seven of their first eight qualification matches. The Italians all have not managed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five fixtures. Overall they have won seven of their last nine fixtures.
Solidly are making good progress and they could be a real threat to Brazil’s qualification hopes in this competitive group. Italy are leaning on a fairly youthful midfield for their World Cup campaign but again that is a hint towards their future. They do have at their disposal Barbara Bonansea who is a winger that can set the entire tournament alight from either flank. While the midfield is on the younger side they have plenty of experience leading the line for them including 29-year-old Cristiana Girelli.
This has the makings of the game and will be interesting to see what Italy can bring to the table against some quality opposition. It is worth backing both teams getting on the scoresheet in the fixture but at the end, the day of should be Australia who edge this.
