Southampton v Newcastle Premier League, 15th October 4.00pm
The Saints really have not gotten their season up and running so far and they have lost three of their last four games in the top flight. It has been a poor return from them and a lack of scoring power is really hurting them at the moment. This won’t be a comfortable game for them on home soil against Newcastle. The Magpies have only suffered the one defeat in their last five league outings now and will fancy their chances of getting back to winning ways as they visit St Marys. Newcastle are 16/5 underdogs though with the draw at 13/5 and Southampton 5/6 odds on at bet365 to pick up the home win.
Southampton v Newcastle Betting Tips
The Saints are desperately crying out for some attacking cohesiveness and for a striker on form. They have only bagged themselves the five goals this season and three of those came in a home victory over West Ham back in mid-August. Southampton have failed to score in four of their seven games now and they are currently running on back to back defeats having lost against Manchester United and Stoke. That’s three defeats in their last four and they are starting to feel a bit of pressure now to turn things around. At home, they have gone W1 D1 L2 for the season and have lost their last two at St Mary’s without having found the back of the net. It’s hardly been convincing stuff from them and under 2.5 goals at bet365 returns a price of 7/10. Can they turn around their fortunes in this one?
Last Six Premier League Head to Head
Southampton 3 – 1 Newcastle
Newcastle 2 -2 Southampton
Newcastle 1 -2 Southampton
Southampton 4 – 0 Newcastle
Southampton 4 – 0 Newcastle
Newcastle 1-1 Southampton
The Saints do have a bit of Premier League form going against the Magpies so they can take some solace in that. Southampton are unbeaten in their last six games in the top flight against Newcastle with a W4 D2 record and have won their last four on home soil against them and they have been convincing wins too, the Saints having scored at least two goals in each of those four wins and they took a clean sheet in three of them as well. Southampton to win to nil at bet365 brings up a price of 2/1. They haven’t been terrible at the back this season as you would expect and did a pretty good job in limiting Man Utd to a 1-0 victory in their last home game. Manolo Gabbiadini is the 8/5 anytime goalscorer favourite forest game with Charlie Austin and Shane Long at 3/2.
Current League Form (most recent last)
The Magpies got off to a rough start in the Premier League suffering back to back losses, but they have managed to turn things around very well. They have taken a W3 D1 L1 record in their last three fixtures, most of the good work having been done at home by them. Just before the international break, they held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at St James Park. Away from home, they have lost two of their three fixtures and they have scored just the one goal as well which was enough to give them a victory at Swansea. To their credit though their defence has looked much better recently and they have given up just the three goals in their last five games. Both teams NOT to score at bet365 is a quote of 19/20.
This is likely to be a tight affair so will the Magpies have anyone to stand up and make the difference for them? Dwight Gayle is their 2/1 shortest priced option in the anytime goalscorer market with Mato Joselu at 11/5. Newcastle have not found themselves behind at the break in any of their top flight fixtures this season and a half time draw at bet365 for a price of 5/4 has huge appeal in this game. Newcastle are a side who have it them to get up a head of steam and press, but they will be taking on a decent home side in this one. They don’t have head to head form against the Saints and they are underdogs for the game but Newcastle shouldn’t be that far out of contention at all and a bet365 Draw No Bet on the Magpies returns a price of 9/4.
Who will win – Southampton v Newcastle Predictions
Draw: It is hard to pick a winner out of these two and therefore the draw has the most appeal in this one. Southampton are decent enough at the back to hold out on home soil and with the improvement of Newcastle’s defence recently this may just end even.
