Sheffield United v Tottenham Capital One Cup, 28th January

The job is half done for Spurs who hold a 1-0 lead in the semi final of the League Cup tie. But the Blades, who have their Cup touch going this season, after holding out at Preston in the FA CUp fourth round on the weekend, will probably get their chances to get at the Premier League club. There’s life in this one yet. Spurs go as 5/6 favourites, with the draw at 11/4 and Sheffield United at 4/1.

It could be worth taking Bet365’s 0-0 Bore Draw coverage for your midweek football betting action. Sheffield United v Tottenham Betting Tips

Can Nigel Clough’s Blades get themselves back into the tie? They have scored in each of their last six League Cup games at home, which suggests that they will put up some fight in this one. Not only that, Sheffield United have won five of their last six League Cup matches at home against higher division opposition, and that includes a semi final win over Liverpool back in 2003. Can they evoke memories of that and push on through to the final? The Blades earned a 1-1 draw away at Preston on the weekend, which means that they are winless in three now in all competitions.

The Blades are not a high scoring side, having returned just the one in the last three played,  it probably isn’t going to be a game which goes over 2.5 goals. Then again, Spurs have not managed to take a clean sheet in eleven away matches. The Blades are actually unbeaten in their last four home matches against Spurs, taking 2-1 victory there which was back in the Premiership in 2007. The biggest concern will be about their lack of scoring power to overhaul a Spurs side who really only need to turn up and take draw.

Spurs will be looking to redeem themselves a little bit after they were dumped out of the FA Cup on home soil against Leicester on the weekend. Spurs have posted a W3 D1 L2 record over their last six in all competitions, but two of those three victories came by only a one goal margin. Spurs have won 12 of their last 13 League Cup matches against teams from a lower division. The one they lost in that run was against Burnley in 2009 but they still made it through. The last four League Cup semi final second legs involving Spurs have produced 21 goals, but a high scoring game doesn’t look likely here.

Tottenham have won just one of their four League Cup semi final second legs that have been on the road, again, something which hints at there being life in this semi final clash yet. In all competitions at Bramall Lane, Spurs have lost three and won none of their last five there. With all that having been done and said, the fact that they can make it to Wembley with a draw is probably going to see them edge their way through. But it won’t be without a fight, the Blades will make sure of that.

Who will win – Sheffield United v Tottenham Predictions

Given the situation here, it is probably the best value to go seeking a drawn outcome in the match with online bookmaker Bet365. Sheffield UNited may not have the cutting edge up front to punish Spurs, while the Premier League outfit just need to consolidate the lead they earned from the first leg. Back at Bramall Lane draw.
