Sevilla v Manchester United UEFA Champions League, 21st February 7.45pm
This should be a really competitive tie in what is the first meeting between Sevilla and Manchester United in Europe. These are the last two winners of the UEFA Europa League though, with Sevilla winning in in 2016 and United getting it last year. Sevilla are looking to make it past the round of sixteen for the first time ever, but United will be confident as they have only lost one of their last eight trips over in Spain.
Sevilla v Manchester United Betting Odds*
Man Utd 6/4, Sevilla 9/5, Draw 9/4* (Betting Odds taken on February 18th, 2018 at 4:55 p.m.)
Sevilla News and Form
Sevilla collected seven points from their home games in the group stage this season, opening with wins over Maribor and Spartak Moscow. Then they launched that incredible comeback from 3-0 down at half-time against Liverpool to take a 3-3 draw. They probably won’t find the United defence as forgiving and they finished second in the group behind Liverpool at the end of the day. Sevilla have won six of their last nine home games in Europe (D2 L1) so are in pretty decent shape and just once before have they suffered a home defeat in Europe against an English side. That was against Man City in the 2015/16 Champions League group stage. Los Rojiblancos met Leicester as well last season at this stage but went out 2-0 on aggregate. Sevilla’s record on home soil against sides from England is W3 D1 L1. They have been through two two-legged knockout ties against English sides and hold a W1 L1 record from that. This may well be a cagey opener and under 2.5 goals at bet365 is at 7/10 odds* (Betting Odds taken on February 18th, 2018 at 4:55 p.m.). Three times before they have been at this stage of the competition and they have lost all three of them. Sevilla are currently on a four-match winless streak of form in all competitions (D2 L2).
Manchester United News and Form
The Red Devils have plenty of experience at this stage of the competition as this is the 10th time that they have made it this far. From this previous nine, they are W6 D3. The Red Devils have won six of their last seven round of 16 ties in the competition. Their away form at this stage isn’t great though as they are W2 D4 L3 in their nine previous round of 16 away games. They coasted through the group stage, winning all but one of their six games, the exception being a loss out at FC Basel on match day five. United’s overall away record in Europe in their last 18 games is W13 D3 L2 which is pretty strong and you would expect them to be fairly tight out at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. They went to Spain last season to face Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-finals and took a 1-01 win there. In the bet365 correct score market a 1-1 draw is the shortest-priced option at 5/1 odds* (Betting Odds taken on February 18th, 2018 at 4:55 p.m.). Manchester United have actually only won just two for their last eleven matches against Spanish clubs (D4 L5) and have taken just the five victories in their last 22 fixtures against sides from La Liga (D9 L8) so that’s not a great record. The Red Devils have a record W13 D20 L17 against Liga clubs, and away their record is W3 D10 L10. United boss Jose Mourinho won seven of his eight fixtures against Sevilla while coach of Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013.
Sevilla v Manchester United Head to Head
This will be the first ever European meeting between the two clubs.
Who will win – Sevilla v Manchester United Predictions
A draw wouldn’t be a huge surprise in this one. Manchester United will be facing a good side and the Spaniards are likely going to do most of the pressing. The Red Devils you feel wouldn’t be too unhappy with getting out of this with a score draw. The 1-1 tie really appeals.
