Senegal News and Form
Senegal will have a shot at winning their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title. They needed extra time to battle their way past Tunisia in a tough semifinal match up. The Lions of Teranga got their breakthrough a Tunisia own goal in the 100th minute. So they have bettered their previous best effort in the competition which was a semi-final exit to Cameroon in 2002. In the match, it was pretty much all Senegal who were on the front foot in the first half. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane even missed an open goal in that opening 45.
Mane was pretty anonymous in the game but he is their top scorer in this campaign with three goals. But they then had a lucky break when they gave away a penalty, but Tunisia’s effort was pretty lame. Four minutes after that, Senegal were awarded a penalty kick and also missed their. They have lost their captain Kalidou Koulibaly who gave away Senegal’s penalty in the semi-final. That’s him suspended. How costly will it be? They have already fallen short against Algeria once in this campaign.
Will they be able to make it count when it matters the most? Senegal are W10 D2 L1 in their last thirteen games and are as tight as houses at the back. They have yet to concede in this tournament and they have conceded in just two of their last twelve games played, which is an astonishing record. Counting extra time, each of their last three games at the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 they have won by a 1-0 scoreline only.

Algeria News and Form
Back in the group stage Algeria won all three of their games, including their 1-0 success over Senegal. They were involved in a great battle with Nigeria in their semi-final match. An own goal from William Troost-Ekong had given Algeria the lead in the game. But they then looked to have blown their chance to wrap things up as they conceded a penalty just after the seventieth minute which the Super Eagles converted. The game looked to be heading for extra time, however, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez had something special up his sleeve.
He curled a free-kick into the top corner of the net in the fifth minute of stoppage time at the end of regulation. Algeria had deservedly taken the lead in the match and they were the better of the two sides throughout. Nigeria were only really a threat on the counter-attack. The goal from Mahrez moves him on to three goals for the tournament, alongside teammate Adam Ounas. Baghdad Bounedjah could easily have joined them with the chances that went begging for him in the semi-final.
All in all, Algeria do look as if they have the creativity in their ranks that Senegal perhaps lack. Algeria are on an undefeated eleven match run of form at the moment (W9 D). They have won their last six on the bounce. The Desert Foxes have only shipped the one goal in the tournament, so bearing in mind all the clean sheets that Senegal have taken as well and this is likely to be a tight, tense duel. Algeria have scored at least two goals in five of their last six fixtures now.
Senegal v Algeria Tips & Odds
Who will win – Senegal v Algeria Predictions
Algeria do look the better of the two sides. They have more about them in a creative attacking department and their goal output recently is a testament to that. Senegal are not easy to break down but we will lean on Algeria finding a way to win this by a narrow margin.
