Rotherham v Shrewsbury Prediction & Betting Tips – 27th May 201824th May 2018 / lee
Rotherham v Shrewsbury League One, 27th May 3.00pm
So this is one final shot a promotion this season then for Rotherham and Shrewsbury as they face off in the League One play off final on Sunday. Shrewsbury managed to overturn some poor end of season league form to battle through their play off semi final against Charlton. The Millers did a great job against Scunthorpe to book their place in the Play Off Final. There could be a tight contest between the two at Wembley.
Rotherham v Shrewsbury Betting Odds*
Rotherham 5/4, Draw 23/10, Shrewsbury 11/5* (Betting Odds taken at 4:46 a.m. on May 23rd, 2018)
Rotherham News and Form
Rotherham finished the league season quite strongly and they will head into the League One play off final having won five of their last seven games played (D2 L1). They only game that they lost in the sequence was because Plymouth scored a 90th minute penalty against them at the end of April to win 2-1. So overall that is some good form that they are carrying behind them at the moment and they have scored in five of their last six games. They were dealt a blow in getting relegated from the Championship to League One at the end of the 2016/17 season but are on the brink of an immediate return. In their play off semi final they took on Scunthorpe and the Millers handled themselves well in producing a 4-2 aggregate win over the Iron. Rotherham always looked as if they would have enough on home soil to win through that tie. The Millers finished in fourth place in the regular season, eight points adrift of third-place Shrewsbury but they ended the season in much better form than their League One play off Final opponents, that’s for sure. As Rotherham have taken a clean sheet in five of their last seven games played then both teams not to score at bet365 is at 10/11 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 4:46 a.m. on May 23rd, 2018). They do look as if they might have the edge at Wembley.
Shrewsbury News and Form
Shrewsbury were looking like real automatic promotion candidates at one point of the season, really mixing things up with Wigan and Blackburn (the two sides who got the automatic promotion spots in the end). But around March their form started to deteriorate and they started to lose touch. They managed to do enough to finish third but they managed just one win in their last six league games at the end of the regular season. So they looked to be vulnerable heading into their play off semi final against Charlton. However, the Shrews dug deep, and really battled and scrapped for everything to get a 2-0 aggregate win on the board over the Addicks, helped on their way in the first leg out on the road thanks to a stunning strike by Jon Nolan in the 80th minute which gave them 1-0 lead in the tie. But just, in general, their overall lack of form has to be a concern and in just one of their last nine games now have they managed to score more than one goal in a game. Their dogged wins over Charlton may have given them renewed hope, but they are likely going to need this to be a low scoring game if they are to progress and under 2.5 goals at bet365 for the final is at 4/6 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 4:46 a.m. on May 23rd, 2018).
Rotherham v Shrewsbury Head to Head
Rotherham and Shrewsbury traded away wins this season against each other in League One action. That was the first meetings in the league between them since they were last together in League One which was back in the 2013/14 season. In the last six league games between the two sides it is all even at two wins each and two drawn matches. Five of the last six meetings between the two clubs in all competitions have ended over 2.5 goals.
Who will win – Rotherham v Shrewsbury Predictions
Shrewsbury deserves a bit of credit for showing up in the play offs after they had ran out of steam and form at the end of the regular season. They are likely to find the Miller’s too tough to handle on the day though as Rotherham just look like such a tough side to take down at the moment. Back the Millers to get back up to the Championship.
