Newcastle v Tottenham Premier League, 13th August 4.00pm
So Newcastle are back in the top flight having spent just the one season away and Rafa Benitez will be looking to ensure that they stay up. There was a bit of frustration earlier in the summer as the club weren’t spending and they haven’t done a great deal of activity still. But then neither have Spurs who have been leaving it late if they are going to go shopping. Obviously, Spurs are in a much better position in terms of squad quality though. Spurs are 7/10 odds on favourites to win this one with the draw at 3/1 and Newcastle at 9/2.

Newcastle v Tottenham Betting Tips
So a good season from Newcastle and it was mission accomplished for Rafa Benitez who stuck with the club to get them back to the top flight. They won the league title by pipping Brighton on the final day of the season as well. But there is no doubt that they are going to have to improve to really compete back up in the top flight and there is a gulf of class between themselves and Spurs here. The Magpies have a couple of players in the attack like Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic to suggest that they could be worth backing by having a punt on both teams to score at 3/4 with Coral to at least get on the scoresheet. The Toon winning though is probably a different thing but this could be a good open game.
There was a famous meeting between these two back on May 15th, 2016 when the Magpies, on their way down to the Championship, smashed Tottenham 5-1 at St James Park with the Lilywhites failing to have chased down Leicester in the title race, it meant that Arsenal finished above them as well. Spurs had 61% of possession in that game. The Magpies won both games against Spurs that season in the Premier League and things are actually pretty even between them in recent Premier League head to heads. In the last ten meetings between them, Newcastle are W5 D1 L4 against the Lilywhites but that having been said they have lost two of their last three on home soil against the London club. Over 2.5 goals at Coral is a price of 4/5 and that looks some decent value.
Spurs seem happy with their lot then, but just before the weekend, Mauricio Pochettino said that he was sure that some transfers were going to happen before the end of the transfer window. Tottenham posted a W9 D6 L4 record away from home last season and they conceded only the 17 goals out on the road in their nineteen games. So that is pretty reliable stuff from them and they averaged over two goals per game away from home last season in the top flight. Harry Kane, of course, is going to be the main source of goals for them and he is a price of 8/11 in the anytime goalscorer market and he is a 13/5 Coral First Goalscorer favourite. At the end of the day, there’s no need to spend just for the sake of spending and they are good enough to win this.
Who will win – Newcastle v Tottenham Predictions
Tottenham to win: The experience of Premier League action and quality that Spurs have over Newcastle is pretty huge. The Magpies may struggle in this home opener against such a fluent and slick side that the Lilywhites can throw out into action. It should be an away win.
