Netherlands News and Form
Are the Netherlands on the up under Ronald Koeman? Well, they lost their Nations League opener against France 2-1 and that leaves them with a mixed record of W2 D2 L2 in their last six games played. So that search for positive consistency goes on. But there have been more positive signs in their actual play.
In that game against France, they did alright really, pulling level at 1-1 just before the 70th minute. They couldn’t hold out for what would have been a good point against the World champions. That result leaves them with just the one clean sheet in their last seven games now.
But they have been scoring so we will back both teams to score at 8/13 odds* (betting odds taken on October 9th, 2018 at 3:39 pm). This Nations League group was always going to be a challenge for the Netherlands in having to deal with France and Germany, but it gives the Dutch a great chance to prove themselves.
This is where they need to be to try and pull themselves back up to the top of their game after missing Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup. The Dutch are W3 L1 in their last four home games, their most recent being a narrow success over Peru in a friendly during the last international break. But they have collected five wins in their last six home fixtures (L1) so that is a marked improvement. Can they take down Germany?
Germany News and Form
Germany are unbeaten in five games now against the Dutch in a W2 D5 record. There have been a lot of tight battles between these neighbours and in fact, in the overall head to head Germany are 7-8 down with ten drawn matches. This has a look of being a really tight game actually as Germany aren’t in great shape at the moment.
In fact, with some appeal in a home upset, a Netherlands 2-1 correct score option is at 11/1 odds* (betting odds taken on October 9th, 2018 at 3:39 pm). Both teams have scored in six of the last eight meetings between the two neighbours.
The Germans lacked a bit of offensive spark at home in a 0-0 draw with France to start their Nations League campaign. After that, they won 2-1 at home against Peru in a friendly. Germany’s current form is not good as one would expect as they have won just three of their last eleven games remarkably (W3 D4 L4).
So they haven’t been clicking. Germany are just W1 D1 L1 in their last three away games, not counting their World Cup 2018 matches. Things just aren’t quite happening in front of goal for them and they have failed to score in three of their last five now.
Who will win – Netherlands v Germany Predictions
Germany need a performance here to set themselves up well for that all-important clash with France. We expect them to come out strong and committed but they look a little bit off-key. There have been signs of improvement from the Netherlands and we are going to back the underdogs to come up with a home win to blow this group wide open. The Netherlands could be catching the Germans just at the right time.
