Napoli News and Form

Napoli need to call on their strong European home form to try and turn this time around. The Partenopei are in the tournament because of finishing third in their Champions League group stage this season behind PSG and Liverpool. They started the Europa League with an easy 5-1 aggregate win over Zurich, before getting the better of RB Salzburg 4-3 on aggregate in the last round. This is their second appearance in the quarterfinals of the competition. Napoli have won five of their seven home fixtures against Premier League opposition (D1 L1), which includes a win over Liverpool this season.

Their previous quarter-final ended in a 6-3 aggregate success over Wolfsburg in the 2014/15 season. Napoli are undefeated at home in Europe this season, winning four of five matches played on home soil. They have given up just the two goals in that sequence of games as well. Their home record in the knockout phase of the Europa League is W5 D5 L2. Napoli have won only three of the 12 UEFA competition ties in which they have lost the first leg away. They have lost just one home game all season across all competitions, that being a league game against Juventus.

Arsenal News and Form

Arsenal have a good 2-0 lead to defend then as they head to Naples. Last season Arsenal made it all the way through to the semi-finals after beating CSKA Moscow 6-3 on aggregate. After only dropping two points in the group stage, Arsenal lost the first leg of both of their ties against BATE and Rennes in the round of 32 and round of 16 respectively, before turning things around on home soil. So how will they fare now that they have to go and defend a lead away from home? This is just their second meeting with Napoli following a pairing in the 2013/14 Champions League group stage.

The two traded 2-0 home wins on that occasion, so that’s been the scoreline in all three meetings so far. Arsenal have a W6 D4 L6 record in Italy, winning five of their last nine trips there. Last season they had to visit AC Milan in the round of sixteen, the Gunners producing a 2-0 success at the San Siro. The Gunners have won both of their previous European quarter-finals against Serie A opposition without conceding a goal. Arsenal have totalled six clean sheets in this season’s Europa League. Their overall away record in two UEFA Europa League campaigns is now W7 D1 L4. Arsenal have progressed in 16 of the 18 previous occasions of winning the first leg at home in UEFA competition.

Who will win – Napoli v Arsenal Predictions

It’s a good advantage that Arsenal have, but we expect Napoli to fight back in this tie. So much so that backing them in the match outright looks a solid proposition. Napoli to win at 4/5 in the match outright fits the bill nicely* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on April 13th, 2019 at 5:02 p.m.)
