Middlesbrough v Reading Championship Preview, 13th September 3.00pm

Middlesbrough are looking a long way off from being a top-six contender at the moment. They have managed just one win so far and are firmly rooted in the bottom half of the table. Reading aren’t doing a lot better as they are only one point better off than Boro. It should make for a tense and tight battle at the Riverside. Middlesbrough News and Form

Boro, who were expected to be back in the promotion race this season, have had a tough start to the new season. They have a new manager in Jonathan Woodgate, who has done a lot of work to transform them on the pitch. Boro actually plays a good open, attacking game, but they haven’t quite gotten the rewards for their new style, just yet. Boro sit at W1 D3 L2 for the season. But the positive from that is that they are undefeated in their last three games (W1 D2).

They drew back to back games against Millwall and Bristol City just before the international break. Middlesbrough have only come up with two goals at home this season (W1 D1 L1). Home and away they have taken only the one clean sheet. All three of their games at the Riverside have gone under 2.5 goals. Stretching back to last season Middlesbrough are W4 D1 L1 in their last six home fixtures in the Championship, three of the four wins in that sequence coming via a 1-0 scoreline.

Middlesbrough v Reading Head to Head

Boro have won their last three home games 2-1 against Reading
Home and away Reading are on a five-match losing streak against Boro
Reading are on a four-match scoring streak at the Riverside
Boro have scored exactly two goals in four of their last five against the Royals

Reading News and Form

Reading have had a mixed bag of fortunes in the Championship so far this season. They have taken a W2 D1 L3 record so far from their six games. Away from home, they have gone W1 D1 L1, their first road win of the campaign coming in their most recent away game at Huddersfield. The two wins this season that Reading have taken have been the only two instances of them having earned a clean sheet.

All four of the away goals that the Royals have scored this season have come in the second half. Three of those four were scored between the 61st and 75th minute. So there’s a little trend to maybe watch out for with live in-play betting. The Royals have opened the scoring in two of their three games this season but have yet to be leading at the half time break in a road game. Reading’s win at Huddersfield snapped a seven-match winless streak of road form in the Championship. It was just their second success in thirteen.

Middlesbrough v Reading Tips & Odds

Who will win – Middlesbrough v Reading Predictions

Reading are fairly unpredictable as it stands and therefore the focus should all be directed towards the home side here. Boro to sneak this win at the Riverside by one goal margin is a good fit. Their three-match unbeaten streak suggests that they are just getting things together and they may be able to kick on and get a home win.
