This is the headline feature of the Premier League weekend as Manchester City look to try and recover from having suffered a midweek upset against Newcastle. While their title defence seems to be in big jeopardy, all they can focus on is beating Arsenal on the weekend. The Gunners continue to thrive at home but remain very shaky on their travels. Manchester City News and Form

The title hopes of Manchester City took a big hit in midweek. After opening the scoring within the first minute at St James Park against Newcastle, the Citizens ended up losing 2-1. That was a major setback as they had been in tremendous form prior to that, winning four matches in a row. But they do get back to home soil on the weekend where they have a W11 L1 record this season.

The only team to have survived a visit there is Crystal Palace who took a victory back in December. City have won their last two home games, beating Liverpool and Wolves. Manchester City have averaged 3.3 goals per home game this season and 58% of league fixtures at the Etihad had have ended over 3.5 goals. Only one of City’s  home fixtures have failed to make it over 2.5 goals.

The total they have taken a clean sheet in 33% of their home games, having given up 10 goals in their 12 home fixtures. Manchester City have scored at least two goals in each and every home game played in the Premier League this season. Each of their last eight on home soil have ended over 2.5 goals.

Their 12 home games so far, Manchester City have been winning at the halftime break in nine of those. Manchester City have not conceded a home goal this season inside the final 15 mins of a match. They have also opened the scoring in all of their home games. Can they come up with a big response to that midweek setback?

Manchester City v Arsenal Head to Head

Manchester City were 2-0 winners over Arsenal earlier this season
The Citizens are on a four-match winning streak in all competitions against Arsenal
City have scored at least two goals in their last four against the Gunners
The Gunners are winless in three at the Etihad (D1 L2)

Arsenal News and Form

Arsenal continued their strong home form for the season with a 2-1 victory over Cardiff on Tuesday night. It took a spot kick from Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to open the scoring for them in the second half. They almost got a clean sheet but conceded in the 90th minute. Still, the victory took them to their sixth home win on the bounce.

Away from home things haven’t been going quite as well for the Gunners. Arsenal are currently on a five-match winless streak away from home in the top flight, losing three of those games. 82% of Arsenal’s away games this season have ended up over 2.5 goals, with 64% making it to at least four goals.

Arsenal have conceded an average of exactly 2 goals per away game this season, which is incidentally the same rate at which they have scored. Their overall away record stands at a relatively poor W4 D3 L4 record and they have not managed an away clean sheet this season.

In eight of their 11 away games this term Arsenal have been level at the halftime break. Five of those eight half-time draws have been a 1-1 scoreline. The surprising thing about that though is Arsenal have conceded 64% of their away goals in the first half of matches. Arsenal have opened the scoring in seven of their 11 away games this season.

Manchester City v Arsenal Tips & Odds

Who will win – Manchester City v Arsenal Predictions

The defensive frailties that the Gunners do have, coupled with some dodgy away form lately is likely to see them leave the Etihad empty-handed. But the Gunners may be able to get at the City defence here and there so Man City to win & both teams to score is our prediction.
