Man United v Wigan Community Shield Betting Preview
The Premier League champions and the FA Cup holders square off at Wembley on August 11th, in what is deemed to the be the start of the new domestic season. It is the precursor to the opening of the Premier League only, really. This will be a big test for both of the sides, with a chance for the respective new bosses of the two clubs to get their hands on some silverware. Will David Moyes be able to carry on the Man United legacy at the first time of asking, or will it be Wigan who turn up and cause another Wembley shock, this time as a Championship side?

There are goals expected to come in this one, but this is early season and the Wembley pitch can get draining. It could be worth looking at some 0-0 Bore Draw insurance from online betting site Bet365. This applies to bets placed before kick off only. Man United v Wigan Betting Tips:
It is to nobody’s surprise that Manchester United are trading as hot favourites on this one. The bookmakers are only expecting one outcome on this Community Shield. It will be David Moyes leading out the Red Devils at Wembley, the familiar sight of Sir Alex Ferguson there is to be seen no more. So this will be the big early pressure moment in Moyes’ tenure at Old Trafford. Will he be able to deliver on the expectation that the Red Devils have placed on him? It’s some pretty big boots to fill, having to follow Fergie. This is a game United will probably be looking forward too, as they have a tremendous record against the Latics, losing only once to their Community Shield opponents. The biggest question of all perhaps is whether or not Wayne Rooney will be with them, or will have parted company with the Old Trafford club in the summer?
Why are United such heavy favourites for Community Shield betting? A quick look at their record will show why. They beat Wigan 4-0 in both of the Premier League meetings last season and that is one good enough reason to suggest they’ll be comfortably. But when you look back over the last eight meetings, it makes some very poor reading for the Latics. Wigan’s only triumph over United came in the Premier League in April 2012, a famous win for them. However, it has to be put in context overall, because that has been Wigan’s only goal against United in the last eight meetings between them. On the other side of things, in those eight matches, United have scored 29 times in taking their seven victories. In that run of eight meetings, there have been three 4-0 wins for United and three 5-0 wins included. Makes some sense therefore to look at Man United to win to nil at odds of 10/11 with Bet365.
It is probably worth looking Over 2.5 Goals for a price of 1/2 at Bet365 as well, just to pick up better value than backing United outright. With Roberto Martinez failing to keep Wigan in the top flight last season, he has moved on to Everton, and Owen Coyle steps in to take charge this season. The Latics will be Europa League action next term, so they do have a lot to look forward too. Their high priority of course though will be getting back their Premier League status. In last season’s FA Cup final, Wigan went in as heavy underdogs against Manchester City at Wembley. However, Ben Watson’s last minute decisive strike gave the Latics their Silverware. So will Wigan be able to pull off another Wembley shock against one of the Manchester big guns? If the Championship side does manage to shock again at Wembley, it will likely be by just the solitary goal again and are out at 12/1 to win by 1 goal.
