France World Cup 2018 Predictions – Group Stage & Winner Odds24th May 2018 / lee
France at the World Cup 2018
France are pencilled in as one of the strong leading contenders at the 2018 World Cup. That is because they are carrying form and they have a richly deep squad of talent call on. Two years ago they made it to the final of Euro 2016 but couldn’t quite deliver in the match despite dominating Portugal, and Les Bleus ended up suffering heartbreak on home soil. With the talent that they have, France are good enough to pick themselves up from that and make a strong challenge wards landing will be their second World Cup title.
They certainly have all the tools necessary to get the job done, but will their mentality hold up when the difficult challenges come along? France are the 11/4 odds favourites* (betting odds taken on May 24, 2018 at 6:36 p.m.) in the World Cup 2018 outright winner market at bet365. With the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe they have a great chance at being in the picture at the final four.
France World Cup 2018 Fixtures – Group Stage
France do have a manageable group at Russia 2018, as they will be facing up against Australia, Peru and Denmark in Group C. Their campaign kicks off on June 16 when they take on Australia and that is a match that France are heavy odds-on favourites to get a win in. So France a good chance of getting off to a positive start at the tournament and that’s always a nice way to launch yourself into contention as it will settle any nerves and instill confidence for tougher challenges ahead.
With France expected to pick up maximum points against the Socceroos they are expected to double up when they meet underdogs Peru on June 21 in their second group stage fixture. Just like in their opener, France are strong favourites to produce the victory in that fixture. The South Americans certainly look the least threatening side to France in the group stage, and so France can open in strong fashion by getting maximum points in their opening two games. It will make life easier for their final group stage match which is going to be trickiest.
They will have an all-European affair with Denmark on June 26 in the final stage matches. If France can comfortably get through their first two matches then it could just mean a matter of picking up a point against the Danes to win group. The Danes actually look better than they have done for a long time, and with them being expected to be opponents, just as France are expected to do, then it would leave this as being the group decider. So there isn’t likely to be chance for France to rest any players at this stage.
The last time that France and Denmark met in the World Cup contest was back in 2002 and it was the Danes who came out on top with a 2-0 win. The two nations have played three international friendly matches since then, the most recent one being in 2015, and France won each of those. France have actually won six of the last seven games between the two nations, the exception in that sequence of matches being that 2002 World Cup defeat. France are 3/4 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on May 24, 2018 at 6:36 p.m.) to take the win on June 26 and at the same time sealed group win. France are 4/9 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on May 24, 2018 at 6:36 p.m.) to win World Cup Group C ahead of Denmark.
So with France lining up as favourites to win Group C they could actually get a tricky game in the round of 16. The French will be facing either Argentina, Iceland, Croatia or Nigeria at that stage from group D which looks extremely competitive. Argentina are the group favourites there. Croatia appears to be a real threat to them though. So whichever way the final positioning ends up, France are not going to see an easy fixture in the first knockout stage of the 2018 World Cup.
France are 3/1 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on May 24, 2018 at 6:36 p.m.) to get eliminated in the very first knockout round. If you want push them on to the quarter-finals the most likely opponents that they can come across their will be either Uruguay or Portugal. Again neither of those would pose an easy challenge for the French as they would have to either deal with the dogged defence and powerful attack of Uruguay, or the resilience of the reigning European champions Portugal. France are 10/3 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on May 24, 2018 at 6:36 p.m.) to be packing their bags at the quarter-finals.
If you can project through to the semi finals for French, then looking at the draw, if both they and Brazil win their respective groups it would pit the two of them together in the final. So while the French may have things relatively comfortable in the group stage of the tournament, it’s hard to see them having a smooth ride through the knockout stages of the 2018 World Cup and their resolve is really going to be tested. But at the end of the day, they have one of the deepest squads heading to the tournament and that depth could be crucial for them finding ways to progress.
France Stage of Elimination
So what is the point at which France will most likely fall? You have to take them on merit and they are one of the better, stronger teams taking part in the tournament.so even though they face tough challenges through the knockout stages competition, they may will have enough in them to actually survive some tough battles. The French are appealing 4/1 odds* (betting odds taken on May 24, 2018 at 6:36 p.m.) to go out at the semi-final stage. If they get there they will have already survived some tough knockout fixtures, and then have to potentially take on Brazil. It may be too much for them in the long run to go further if they were to go up against the Selecao in the final four.
France Top Goalscorer
France can boast one of the top goalscoring talents in the world at their hopes will be resting on the shoulders of Antoine Griezmann. He has produced fine goalscoring form three 2018 and is France’s big hope up front. Griezmann is the 12/1 odds third favourite* (betting odds taken on May 24, 2018 at 6:36 p.m.) in the World Cup top goalscorer market at bet365, just to show how much of a threat he is. France can call on plenty of attacking depth in their squad with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Martial and Olivier Giroud in there. But while they can boast all that talent the main focal point of their attack is going to be Griezmann and he makes this most sense to back to France’s top goalscorer at the 2018 World Cup.
Outright Odds* for the World Cup 2018
Germany 9/4, Brazil 9/4, France 11/4, Spain 10/3, Argentina 4/1, Belgium 5/1, England 7/1, Portugal 12/1, Uruguay 12/1, Colombia 12/1, Croatia 14/1, Poland 16/1, bar 25/1* (betting odds taken on May 22, 2018 at 11:24 p.m.)
France have an immensely talented squad, they have pace, they have strength at the back and they have a savvy manager in Didier Deschamps. There are certainly well equipped to make a run at the title. However there path ahead is likely to be very tough, tougher perhaps than any of the other big guns that are going into the tournament. That may well take a toll on them because they will have to come through some tough mental battles at some point more likely than not.
France should be thoroughly entertaining at the 2018 World Cup. However because of the knockout draw that could potentially lay ahead, and having to meet Brazil potentially in the semi-finals, then we can see France taking a tumble in the semi-finals. France are 4/1 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on May 24, 2018 at 6:36 p.m.) for a semi-final stage of elimination.
