France v Croatia Betting Tips

France have been carrying fantastic form, even if their performances haven’t always been straight out of the top drawer. The French are W12 D4 L1 in their last seventeen games and they are undefeated in their last ten played. They had a much tougher route to the World Cup 2018 Final than Croatia did and yet of the two sides competing on Sunday, they have had the more comfortable time of things. After their thrilling 4-3 win over Argentina in the round of sixteen, France really did a fantastic job in defensive showings against Uruguay and Belgium in the following rounds to make their third World Cup Final. While they had to exert a bit of patience and control to beat Uruguay, the fact that they shut down Belgium in the semi-final is worth noting. That is four clean sheets in their last five games played now and France to win to nil in Sunday’s Final is at 13/8 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July, 2018 at 6:12 p.m.).

The games against Uruguay and Belgium didn’t show France playing with a tremendous amount of attacking flair. But their pragmatic, steady approach in each got them their reward. Their defensive effort against Belgium, a side who had scored so freely at this World Cup was fantastic. They just totally shut down one of the most dangerous attacking sides in the world with great effect. Overall France have been playing with substance over style more than anything, the great attacking flair has not been there, but they have the players who can deliver those special touches of course like Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann, the latter being the 4/1 first goalscorer favorite at bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July, 2018 at 6:12 p.m.). France have only failed to score in one of their last fifteen games and will likely find a way through. They have gotten stronger as the tournament has gone on and won all three of their knockout stage matches in regulation time.

This will be the third World Cup Final for France having won the tournament on home soil in 1988 and then losing against Germany in the final of the 2006 edition.

Croatia have done things the hard way. Penalty shootout wins over Denmark and then Russia in the round of sixteen and quarter finals respectively saw them ride their luck. They needed another period of extra time in their semi final tie against England as well, with Mario Mandzukic getting the winner in the 109th minute. So if you total up those three extra time periods, then that’s the equivalent of an entire extra match that Croatia had to play to reach the Final. They had to come from behind in each of those matches as well, all three of which ended 1-1 at 90 minutes. In the bet365 correct score market the shortest priced option is a France 1-0 at 9/2 while the 1-1 draw is at 6/1 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July, 2018 at 6:12 p.m.). This has been dubbed the golden generation of Croatia and while they have been tested and pushed to their limits, they have not broken and there was something unexpected from them in their semi final win.

It was expected that Croatia may run out of steam in that semi final because of the extra time played against Denmark and Russia. However, they got stronger the longer the game went on after a slow start in the first half. They showed tremendous depth in strength to keep plugging away and get that win with Luka Modric again the star of the show for them. Croatia are unbeaten in seven games now (W4 D3) which includes extra time and they have scored in each of their last seven games, netting at least two in six of those seven games. They have been finding ways to goal to be fair to them. France will be the best side that they have faced since the group stage though and because the French look so strong at the back under 1.5 goals is at 11/8 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July, 2018 at 6:12 p.m.).

France v Croatia Head to Head

France remain undefeated against Croatia from their previous meetings, having a W3 D2 record against them. Their first ever contest was a World Cup fixture which was during France’s successful 1998 campaign on home soil. Their most recent meeting was a 2011 friendly which ended in a draw and the last two meetings have been tied.

Who will win – France v Croatia Predictions

Croatia deserves a lot of credit for not being broken at this tournament. It has been a tough journey for them in the knockout phase and this is not going to be any different. France have really stepped up to the plate with their defence and we can see Les Bleus collecting the win by a one-goal margin.
