England Women v Cameroon Women Women’s World Cup Preview, 23rd June 4.30pm

The Lionesses did their job and won all three of their group stage matches. They were good in patches, really dull and flat in other periods. But they got the job done and that is all that matters at the end of the day. The reward for winning the group is an easier tie in the round of sixteen against one of the best third-placed teams, Cameroon. Read our England Women v Cameroon Women betting tips for more.

England Women News and Form

Although it wasn’t top-drawer performances that England delivered in the group stage, they won all three games. The Lionesses took one-goal margin wins over Scotland and Argentina before a brace from Ellen White saw them take a 2-0 win over Japan. White is the top scorer for England at the tournament now with three goals. White is the 4/5 anytime goalscorer favourite for this round of sixteen tie* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 21st, 2019 at 6:24 p.m.). The Three Lions have now won five of their last six games.

They scored exactly two goals in four of those five victories in that sequence and are strong favourites to win this fixture. The group wins in this campaign has seen them go W8 L1 in their last nine Women’s World Cup matches. That’s a fantastic return and great consistency from them. Just one of their last five games have now gone over 2.5 goals and they will know that there are going to be tougher challenges down the line. There’s no need to burn out in an easier fixture.

Cameroon Women News and Form

Cameroon had a nail-biting finish to their group stage campaign. After they had lost 1-0 against Canada and then 3-1 against the Netherlands, qualification was down to their last game. That was against New Zealand, with both teams needing to win to have a shot at finishing as one of the best third-placed teams. Cameroon were on track with a second-half goal, but under immense pressure from the Kiwis. Their World Cup campaign looked over when Aurelle Awona scored a disastrous own goal ten minutes from time.

Cameroon were second best in the game at the point and New Zealand looked the more likely to push on and win. But then right at the end, in the 95th minute, a brilliant solo effort from Ajara Nchout gave the Africans the win. That leaves Cameroon at W3 L3 in their last six games, the win over New Zealand adding to successes over Mali and club side Levante. Considering that the Indomitable Lionesses had played just two matches since November last year as their build-up, this is a big story for them.

England should find themselves pretty comfortable in this one. Cameroon looked spent in the second half against New Zealand but survived with a brilliant solo effort. They are likely to come unravelled against England’s Lionesses. England to win to nil.
