(Full time: 0:1 – goals: Giménez 90´)

Uruguay kick-off as favourites to win Group A at the 2018 World Cup and they will be looking for a positive start as they face up to Egypt in their opener. Uruguay are one of the stronger dark horses entering the tournament, while Egypt will be hoping to get some inspired time out of Liverpool’s Mo Salah following his injury, to try and compete with the South Americans.

Egypt v Uruguay Betting Tips

Would Egypt be hyped as much if it were not for Mo Salah? Probably not and even with him fully fit the Egyptians have a tough challenge ahead of them at the 2018 World Cup. One man doesn’t make a team and that is going to be important to remember when betting on this game. Egypt are not in good form and that is the bottom line, with or without Salah. They have failed to win any of their last six games (D3 L3) and that’s not what you want ahead of a major tournament. Egypt have only produced one goal in their last four games and that was in a draw with Kuwait. In their final warm-up match last weekend they were brushed aside easily by Belgium in a 3-0 loss. Egypt have no clean sheet in their last nine games and given their own lack of output and you have to consider Uruguay’s tough defence as well, both teams not to score is at 8/15 odds with bet365* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.).

That looks a sensible proposition to kick things off. Their star man Salah injured himself in the UEFA Champions League Final raising doubts about his participation at the 2018 World Cup. He is in the squad and is at 9/4 odds in the bet365* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 pm) anytime goalscorer market if you wanted to gamble on him. But again Egypt as a whole may have tough time getting into this match and in dealing with Uruguay’s rugged defence. Because Egypt are lacking form and could be missing their star man as well it makes sense to look under 2.5 goals at bet365 for 8/15 odds* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.).

There is no way that Egypt are going to be able to match up to the kind of firepower that Uruguay will be bringing to the table. They can boast both Edinson Cavani, who was the top goalscorer in CONMEBOL qualification, and Luis Suarez. You imagine that they will give them something in this game and they are at 10/3 and 3/1 odds respectively* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.) in the bet365 first goalscorer market. Uruguay were very comfortable in their qualification campaign finishing second behind Brazil. They would be on the right path to achieving a group win if they collect three points in this one. They do have the current form to suggest that they are going to complete the task.

Uruguay are on a three-match winning streak at the moment and have lost just once since the beginning of September last year. In their last nine matches, Uruguay have collected a total of six clean sheets and therefore Uruguay to win to nil 45/4 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.) has to be a pretty decent option to weigh up. If you’re expecting their tough defence to hold strong than that could lead you to the main options in the bet365 correct score market which are a Uruguay 1-0 at 4/1 and a Uruguay 2-0 at 5/1 odds* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.). In attack, just as you would expect, Uruguay have only failed to score in one of their last six games so should be able to make a breakthrough.

Egypt v Uruguay Head to Head

Egypt and Uruguay have met only once before and that was back in 2006 when they met up for an international friendly. Uruguay came out on top with a 2-0 win.

Who will win – Egypt v Uruguay Predictions

Even with a fully fit Mo Salah, this would be a tough game for Egypt to get anything out of. Uruguay are strong enough at the back to keep them at bay and their strike partnership of Suarez and Cavani are likely to make a breakthrough. Back Uruguay to get the win with a clean sheet.
