Crystal Palace v Chelsea Premier League, 14th October 3.00pm
Chelsea’s season took a bit of hit before the international break, not only losing against Manchester City, but losing Alvaro Morata for a while through injury. That could be a blow for them but they will still be expected to go out and take a win at Selhurst Park to pick themselves up after that loss against the Citizens. Crystal Palace are still without a single point or goal this season and not too surprisingly they are heavy 8/1 underdogs at bet365 for this one, with Chelsea at 4/11 and the draw at 7/2.
Crystal Palace v Chelsea Betting Tips
Here go Palace again in search of a goal and a point in the league this season. Before the international break, they lost back to back away games against Manchester City and Manchester United, shipping nine goals in those two games. New boss Roy Hodgson has a massive uphill battle on his hands here and this won’t be an easy fixture for them back at Selhurst Park either. In total, Palace have now conceded seventeen goals this season, the worst defensive record in the top flight in their seven match losing streak. Not helping them is Christian Benteke being out injured and Wilfred Zaha being tough and go in being ready. Under 2.5 goals at bet365 fetches a price of even money and that’s not a bad option.
Last Six Premier League Head to Head
Chelsea 1 – 2 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace 0 – 1 Chelsea
Crystal Palace 0 – 3 Chelsea
Chelsea 1 – 2 Crystal Palace
Chelsea 1 – 0 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace 1 – 2 Chelsea
With Palace not scoring goals and Chelsea being nowhere near as prolific as the two Manchester clubs, this may struggle to get above the 2.5 goal line. Palace are crying out for someone to break their duck in front of goal and their shortest priced option in the anytime goalscorer market is Bakary Sako at 4/1. Palace have actually won two of their last four against Chelsea in the top flight, but those wins were at Stamford Bridge and they have lost their last three in a row at home against the Blues since a 1-0 victory over them back in 2014. Will Palace have benefitted from the international break, to have given Roy Hodgson some time to figure things out on the training pitch?
Current League Form (most recent last)
Crystal Palace LLLLLL
Chelsea lost 1-0 against Man City just before the break and really didn’t look like getting past the Champions-elect in that clash at the Bridge. Chelsea though have posted a good away season with three straight wins from three matches and the have scored at least two goals in each of those games as well. They hammered Stoke 4-0 in their last away game. A Chelsea 2-0 correct score at bet365 fetches a price of 6/1, the same quote as there is on a Chelsea 1-0 which is a repeat of last season’s game between them at Selhurst Park. Chelsea have lost Alvaro Morata to injury which is a massive blow to them and it leaves Michy Batshuayi as the 20/21 anytime goalscorer favourite for this game.
Batshuayi scored five times in September and got a goal on international duty with Belgium recently as well. Chelsea have plenty of quality in attack still through the likes of Eden Hazard (11/10 anytime goalscorer), Pedro and Willian and will be expected to get the job done even though they won’t be at full strength. But they may have to be patient because in recent meetings Palace have frustrated them well, and a Draw/Chelsea half time/full time wager at bet365 brings a price of 11/4. Chelsea have gone W10 D2 in their last 12 games on the road against sides in the bottom half of the table and some of those weren’t big wins. Chelsea to win to nil at bet365 offers a price of 6/5 which looks value considering the troubles that Palace have been in.
Who will win – Crystal Palace v Chelsea Predictions
Chelsea to win: Even without the influence of Morata, Chelsea should pick up the three points in this one. The Blues have done well on the road this and Crystal Palace, well, yeah we all know about what has happened to them. Away win.
