The Young Lions of England have made it through to the semi-finals and now stand on the brink of reaching the Final of the World Cup for just the second time in the country’s history. England showed good composure to handle the pressure of facing Sweden in the last round. As for Croatia they had another exhausting penalty shootout to deal with as they managed to survive against Russia. Will they have the legs to contend with England over the 90 minutes? Croatia v England Betting Tips
Croatia have had a real fight on their hands in the knockout stages of the 2018 World Cup. In the round of sixteen, they were taken all the way to penalty kicks in a game that they were strong odds-on favourites to win inside 90 minutes. Then it was the same story in the quarter finals of the tournament as well for them as they had to fight back from being behind against host nation Russia. So that was another extra 30 minutes of action for them and more emotional turmoil in another penalty shootout. Croatia aren’t the youngest of sides either and you wonder if that will take its toll. We are going under 2.5 goals at bet365 is at 1/2 odds* (betting odds taken on July 8th, 2018 at 7:56 pm) as this is a World Cup semi-final. For how well they played in the group stage they really haven’t stamped their authority on a knockout stage fixture yet. That’s a strange thing for them really because they are technically gifted as well as physically strong.
They are now in the position though of potentially making their best ever run at a World cup. Back at France ‘98 they finished third in the tournament and will be looking to put that heartbreak behind them. Croatia are now W4 D2 in their last six games played and they are without a clean sheet in their last three now at the World Cup. To their credit though and this is a sign of how strong they are, they have scored at least two goals in five of their last six (extra time included). This is pressure for both sides of course in this one and granted Croatia have not been playing all that well in the knockout stages, but they will be the best team that England have faced so far at this tournament. The Croatians have lost just the two games since the beginning of September last year. Given what they have been through in the knockout stages if this goes to extra time, the Croatians could be feeling it. They are 13/10 underdogs To Qualify* (Betting Odds were taken from July 8th, 2018 at 6:46 p.m.).
What a night in Samara it was for England as they comfortably saw off Sweden in the quarter finals. England had had a tough round of sixteen match against Colombia, having been embroiled in a physical battle. They then suffered conceding an equalizer deep into stoppage time and then all of the emotions in that dramatic penalty shootout win. So the way that they held themselves together against Sweden was impressive. They weren’t technically great on the day, far from it and there was a lot of passes going astray in the middle of the park. That is one area where England will have to be careful because Croatia are very strong in the midfield area. But it is all positives for the Three Lions really as they have surpassed their realistic benchmark of the quarter finals. Can they now go and book themselves a place in the Final of the 2018 World Cup? In the bet365 correct score market, the 1-1 draw is the shortest-priced option at 5/1 with an England 1-0 at 11/2* (Betting Odds were taken from July 8th, 2018 at 6:46 p.m.). Of them, the draw is tempting.
England keeper Jordan Pickford was worked more than Gareth Southgate will be happy about in the second half of their contest with Sweden, but fortunately, the Everton man was in top form. That was England’s first clean sheet at the tournament and this would be a pretty big time to get another. England didn’t really get Harry Kane into the quarter-final, but he is still looking a lock for the Golden Boot and he is the 10/3 first goalscorer favourite* (Betting Odds were taken from July 8th, 2018 at 6:46 p.m.) for this one. England are up to eleven goals in the tournament, the only previous World Cup edition in which they reached that tally was in 1966. While England haven’t produced a great deal from open play, they have scored with 10 of their last 13 shots on target at the World Cup, so are certainly clinical when those chances come along. England are now at W4 D1 L1 in their last six games and they have lost just one of their last fifteen.
Croatia v England Head to Head
This will be the eighth meeting between England and Croatia and from those previous encounters, it is the Three Lions who are 4-2 ahead with the one drawn game. England have won the last two against Croatia, which was in 2010 World Cup qualifying, scoring nine goals in those two games and counting two. All but two of the previous seven meetings have gone over 2.5 goals, six of them producing at least four goals. They have just once in a major tournament, which was at Euro 2004 and England won that game 4-2 with Wayne Rooney getting a brace on the day.
Who will win – Croatia v England Predictions
What a tense occasion this is going to be and that can take something away from even the best players in the world. You know what you are going to get from these two who are not going to change things at this point. We are backing the draw over 90 minutes, but for England to go all the way To Qualify.
