Coventry v Exeter League Two, 28th May 3.00pm
Who will be making their way up to League One next season? During the regular season Exeter finished in fourth place, two places and five points ahead of Coventry. However, of the two sides coming through their play off semi finals, it is Coventry who are looking the more confident of the two. Will the Sky Blues be able to deliver at Wembley against the Grecians who suffered heartbreak in last season’s League Two Play Off Final?
Coventry v Exeter Betting Odds*
Coventry 7/5, Draw 11/5, Exeter 2/1* (Betting Odds taken at 4:46 a.m. on May 23rd, 2018)
Coventry News and Form
The Sky Blues finished sixth in the league this season but they are now on the brink of making up to League One. They were up against the tough Notts County side in their play off semi final and after an expected tight tussle at the Ricoh Arena in the first leg which ended in a 1-1 draw, it looked as if Coventry’s chance might have gone. But they went out on the road in the second leg and hammered out an impressive 4-1 win. That means that Coventry have scored at least two goals now in five of their last seven games played and in total they have scored eleven in their last four. So that huge surge of scoring threat is serving them well just at the right time. They have come into confidence at the right time it would seem and in the bet365 over/under market, just because of the occasion, it is worth looking at under 2.5 goals at 13/20 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 4:46 a.m. on May 23rd, 2018). Given that both league meetings between the two this season went that way, it is a good option even though Coventry are scoring well. The Sky Blues have lost just one of their last seven games played now (W4 D2) and they have scored at least three goals in each of their last three victories. That huge win over Notts County will have given them such a tremendous boost.
Exeter News and Form
Exeter have produced most of their best stuff on home soil this season and that was the case again for them in the play off semi finals. After digging in there and producing a 0-0 draw on the road at Lincoln in the first leg, they took full advantage back on home soil to roll out a 3-1 win over the Imps. Exeter are actually in pretty sharp form having lost just one of their last nine games played now (W5 D3) and they have scored at least two goals in four of their last five victories. Exeter have actually only failed to score in one of their last thirteen games now and therefore both teams to score at bet365 is at 5/6 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 4:46 a.m. on May 23rd, 2018). Against the other top six sides during the regular season, won just three of their ten matches and they were in poor form away from home at the end of the season, losing three of their final six road games. So can they produce out on the road? That’s really the question there for them. Last season at this stage they fell 2-1 at Wembley to Blackpool. Can they make amends for that this time around, or will they suffer the doubly cruel blow of back to back play off final defeats?
Coventry v Exeter Head to Head
Exeter and Coventry traded home wins against each other in the League Two meetings this season. Those were the first meetings in the league between the two clubs since the old English Division Four back in the 1950’s. So that’s all the current head to head form that there is to look at and both of the wins produced this season were with a clean sheet.
Who will win – Coventry v Exeter Predictions
How much will last season’s Play Off Final defeat be on the minds of Exeter? The way that Coventry just came out and powered their way past Notts County in the second leg of their semi final was impressive and the Sky Blues have burst into life in front of goal at the end of the season. Exeter may just find it all too much to handle. Coventry to win.
