Colombia v Japan Prediction & Betting Tips – World Cup 201817th June 2018 / lee
Colombia v Japan World Cup 2018, 19th June – 1.00 p.m
(Full time: 1:2 – goals: Quintero 39′ – Kagawa (P) 6′, Osako 73′)
Colombia had a great group stage campaign four years ago, largely on the back of James Rodriguez who went on to win the Golden Boot. They weren’t overly impressive during their qualification campaign this time around though. However, this is likely to be the easiest game that they will get in Group H and need to make a positive start before tougher challenges against Senegal and Poland. Here is a look at our Colombia v Japan prediction and betting tips.

Colombia v Japan Betting Tips
Colombia put in a lot of impressive work four years ago at the World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals. They produced really energetic and positive performances which caught the eye of many. Four years later though we are struggling to see how they will have as much of an impact this time around. Colombia took the fourth and final automatic qualification spot in CONMEBOL qualification where they managed only the 21 goals in their 18 qualification matches. They were average at best really and only got over the finish line in the final round of qualification matches. While they will be expected to go out and produced a victory in this game against Japan, it’s hard to see the game being a goal-fest and therefore under 2.5 goals at bet365 is at 113/20 odds* (betting odds taken on June 15, 2018 at 9:04 PM). Given that Japan are not a big threat at all you can consider for your Colombia v Japan betting tips the South Americans collecting a clean sheet.
Colombia are not carrying great form with them to Russia as they have won only two of their last nine fixtures, drawing five and losing two in that sequence. Their last two games have both ended 0-0 in friendly matches against Australia and Egypt, which is something that hints that this game is going to be a low scoring one as well. With that in mind in the bet365 correct score market a 0-0 result is a 13/2 odds while a Colombia 1-0 result is at 5/1 odds* (betting odds taken on June 15, 2018 at 9:04 PM). For our betting tips on this game the latter actually has quite a lot of appeal. We are not expecting Colombia to turn up at the 2018 World Cup and be a prolific goalscoring side, they just don’t appear to have that in them this time around. But they do have bigger scoring threats than what Japan can produce and Radamel Falcao is the 11/10 odds anytime goalscorer favourite* (betting odds taken on June 15, 2018 at 9:04 PM) and the main supports to him will be Carlos Bacca and that man James Rodriguez.
What are Japan likely to come up with in this fixture? The Blue Samurai are not in any winning form and it’s hard to predict that they are going to pull off a shock and collect three points here. In their final World Cup warm-up match they did beat Paraguay 4-2 and that snapped a five-match winless streak that they were on, losing four of those fixtures. Japan have lost six of their last 10 games and have struggled in going up against average opposition in the likes of South Korea, Ukraine and Ghana. We fail to see where the attacking threat and energy is going to come from in the Japan challenge and with a late change of manager ahead of the tournament, it’s not been a great buildup for the Blue Samurai. Both teams not to score at bet 365 looks a solid option in Colombia v Japan betting tips and that is an option which can be taken at 4/6 odds* (betting odds taken on June 15, 2018 at 9:04 PM). It is not as if Japan have a great track record in the World Cup anyway having won just four of 17 previous World Cup matches. Four years ago they failed to win any of their three group stage matches and there is a big danger of that happening once again.
Colombia v Japan Head to Head
There have been three previous matches between Colombia and Japan and the head-to-head stands at two wins for Colombia and the one drawn fixture. Their most recent clash was indeed four years ago in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup and Colombia collected a comfortable 4-1 victory on that occasion.
Who will win – Colombia v Japan Predictions
We are going to side with Colombia to produce the win in this one, even though they don’t look anything special this time around. They should have enough to take down Japan who have produced very little form ahead of the tournament. Colombia to win to nil heads our Colombia v Japan betting tips.
