Celtic v Zenit Prediction & Betting Tips – 15th February 2018

Celtic v Zenit UEFA Europa League, 15th February 8.05pm

Celtic had to take another drop down to the UEFA Europa League after another failed Champions League campaign. They have gotten themselves a really tough draw as well in the first knockout stage of the Europa League as they take on Zenit. The Russians came through the group stage of the competition this season amassing more points and scoring more goals than anyone else did in the group stage. They should produce a strong challenge at Celtic Park.

Celtic v Zenit Betting Odds*

Zenit 6/4, Celtic 17/10, Draw 12/5* (Betting Odds taken on February 9th, 2018 at 4:15 a.m.)

Celtic News and Form

The Scottish Champions didn’t have a good time of things in the UEFA Champions League this season, managing only three points in their campaign to end up in third place. They failed to get a single point at home though. This will be Celtic’s first game against Zenit, but they have faced Russian opposition before and from that, they have gone W3 D2 L1 from six. Their home record against Russians is just W1 D1 L1 though. Celtic took a 2-1 home win over Spartak Moscow in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League group stage in what was their most recent meeting with a Russian club. Celtic’s home form in Europe is just nothing to get excited about and it is a bit concerning. They have failed to win any of their last eleven European home games in the main draw of competitions. They are on a five-match losing streak at home now in Europe and in the Europa League specifically, they have failed to win any of their last five as well (D2 L3). Over 2.5 goals at Paddy Power is at 4/5 odds* (betting odds taken January 9th, 2018 at 5:04 p.m.) and that is probably the right option for this one. There were much easier draws out there that Celtic could have gotten.

Zenit News and Form

Zenit were fantastic in their Europa League group this season, taking sixteen points and netting seventeen goals, the best of all sides in the first round. It meant that they beat out Real Sociedad to the top spot in Group L. Zenit have met Scottish opposition just once before and that was a big occasion for them too as they took down Celtic’s rivals Rangers 2-0 in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup final in Manchester. This is the eighth season in a row that Zenit have been in the knockout stage of European competition now and this is their fifth time in the round of 32 in the Europa League during that spell. Zenit are currently running on a seven-match unbeaten streak of form in Europe at the moment with a W6 D1 record. They don’t have a clean sheet in any of their last five games though (conceding exactly one goal in each) and in the Paddy Power correct score market a Zenit 2-1 option is at 17/2 with a 1-1 draw at 11/2* (betting odds taken January 9th, 2018 at 5:04 p.m.). Zenit have only once failed to get past this stage of the competition. However, they have actually lost three of their four away fixtures in the round of 32 of the Europa League and have lost each of their last four European knockout fixtures away from home.

Who will win – Celtic v Zenit Predictions

The visitors are really worth considering to get the win on the board in this one. Celtic are just too unreliable on home soil in Europe to really throw much at in this one and given what Zenit have produced so far in Europe this season, then the Russians could well edge this duel in Glasgow. At worst they are value to avoid defeat.
