Cardiff v Sunderland Prediction & Betting Tips – 13th January 201810th January 2018 / lee
Cardiff v Sunderland Championship, 13th January 12.30pm
The Bluebirds will be pretty desperate to stop the rot having lost their last four Championship games on the bounce. That’s been a rough patch of form for them to have battled through but they still start the weekend in third place. They take on bottom side Sunderland who have at least been collecting points lately but are still in dire straits. Cardiff are 4/5 with William Hill to collect the maximum with the draw at 12/5 and Sunderland at 19/5* (Betting Odds taken January 8th, 2018 at 10.36pm)
Cardiff v Sunderland Betting Tips
The Bluebirds certainly are not singing a fine tune at the moment as they are on a four-match losing streak at the moment in the Championship. After being so strong over the first half of the season there were concerns that perhaps they didn’t have the depth to sustain a season-long run at winning automatic promotion. Now they are going to have to dig deep to turn this around. They have decent home form though still for the season with a W8 D3 L2 record but those two defeats have happened in their last two home games, going down against Fulham and Preston. The Bluebirds have scored 22 goals at home this season while defensively they have been good having conceded an average of just 0.77 goals per game. Only 46% of their home games have gone over 2.5 goals and it is probably worth looking under the goal line at William Hill for this one. They will just want to get the win done.
Top scorers for them this season are Joe Ralls and Junior Hoilett with six each but of his half a dozen, five of Hoilett’s have been on home soil making him their top home scorer and he is a 7/4 option in the William Hill anytime goalscorer market while teammate Kenneth Zohore is favourite at 7/5* (Betting Odds taken January 8th, 2018 at 10.37pm). Cardiff collected a 2-1 away win at Sunderland back in September and that snapped a three-match winless streak that they were on against the Black Cats. That was the fifth Championship clash between the two sides only and from those, it is Sunderland who are 3-2 up, plus the Black Cats collected four points from their two Premier League meetings against the Bluebirds in the 2013/14 season as well. Cardiff are winless in their last three home games against Sunderland now. In the correct score market, a Cardiff 1-0 is heading the options as they take on the bottom side in the league.
Sunderland are still bottom but there is some hope for them. A win on the weekend could get them out of the drop zone. That is because they have gone W2 D2 L2 in their last six games which his a big improvement for them. Two of their last three wins in the league have been out on the road and with clean sheets as well. Overall the Black Cats are just W3 D5 L5 on their travels for the season, but there has been a marked improvement from them recently having gnome W2 D1 L1 in their last four away from home. They are still looking pretty lightweight in front of goal though and they have scored just the three goals in total in their last six league matches. They have sixteen away goals in thirteen games this season and they have failed to score in almost a third of their road games. 64% of the goals that they have conceded away from the Stadium of Light have come in the second half of matches. Lewis Grabban top scores for them this season and they need to keep plugging away. Both teams not to score at William Hill appeals at 8/11* (Betting Odds taken January 8th, 2018 at 10.37pm) as the Black Cats go in search of more survival points.
Who will win – Cardiff v Sunderland Predictions
The Bluebirds seriously need to knuckle down and get themselves out of this slump. Given their home from across the course of the season and not just based on their recent struggles over the busy Festive period, it is worth backing the home side to collect maximum points against the struggling Black Cats.
