Bristol City v Manchester City EFL Cup Prediction & Betting Tips – 23rd January 201822nd January 2018 / lee
Bristol City v Manchester City EFL Cup, 23rd January 7.45pm
On the surface of things, this semi-final tie is nicely balanced with Bristol City only 2-1 down. However, realistically they are still going to have a mammoth task ahead of them at Ashton Gate on Tuesday evening to do enough to see off the Citizens to reach Wembley. The Robins are out of form so would need something special to pull off an upset here. Manchester City are 1/4 with William Hill to collect the second leg win, with the draw at 5/1 and Bristol City at 11/1* (Betting Odds taken on January 21st, 2018 at 8:06 p.m.)
Bristol City v Manchester City EFL Cup Betting Tips
The first leg was a great game as Bristol City really showed up and competed well at the Etihad. The championship side though have been going through a tough run of results as they have won just one of their last eight games played now in all competitions and it’s not too surprising that this has happened since they knocked Manchester United out in the EFL Cup quarter-finals. It looks as if they have gotten a bit distracted as they were motoring before that. That is four Premier League sides that they have beaten in this season’s EFL Cup though, taking out Crystal Palace, Stoke and Watford as well as the Red Devils. The Robins are just D1 L5 in their last six games in all competitions and somehow managed to get out of a league game on Friday night at Derby with a point in a 0-0 draw. Bristol City have failed to score in four of their last five games played now (one goal) and things have just gone a bit sour for them.
Of course, they will have their tails up for this one and will have some rousing support at Ashton Gate as they have to try and play their way back into this tie. A 1-0 win gets them to Wembley because of their away goal in the first leg, however in the William Hill Correct Score market the shortest priced option is a Manchester City 2-0 option while a repeat 2-1 victory for City is at 8/1* (Betting Odds taken on January 21st, 2018 at 8:22 p.m.). The Robins have lost their last two games at Ashton Gate, both league defeats against Wolves and Norwich but they are W11 D3 L4 overall this season on home soil and have scored at least two goals in eleven of those home games. So it’s been pretty solid stuff from them at Ashton Gate and that is where they took their wins over Stoke, Palace and Manchester United in this Cup run. Maybe they have been saving themselves for this shot at reaching Wembley and really, who can blame them?
Both teams to score at William Hill is at even money odds* (Betting Odds taken on January 21st, 2018 at 8:06 p.m.) and worth a look as City are on a five-match sequence without a clean sheet. You could always back that up with a Man City to win & Both Teams To Score wager. After their league loss against Liverpool recently, Man City got back to winning ways on the weekend, taking down Newcastle 3-1 at the Etihad in the Premier League. City are actually only W1 D2 L1 on their travels though in all competitions and have had some real scraps in the EFL Cup, needing penalties to get past both Leicester and Wolves on their run. But they are probably going to be at full strength. Sergio Aguero goes as the First Goalscorer favourite for the match and will be in high spirits after his Premier League hat-trick on the weekend. The last time that City went to Ashton Gate was in the Carling Cup in 2007 and they landed a 2-1 win. Overall in the head to head, Bristol City are actually 10-8 up with six draws.
Who will win – Bristol City v Manchester City EFL Cup Predictions
Manchester City should be pretty comfortable still at the end of the day in this tie. They just have so much depth and quality that they will find a way to combat anything that the home side could possibly throw at them. It’s fully worth riding the Citizens to win and both teams to score in the match, as the Citizens struggle for clean sheets.
