Bayern Munich v Real Madrid UEFA Champions League, 25th April 7.45pm
Once again the two European giants meet up in the Champions League. It was Madrid who came out on top in last season’s quarter-final meeting on their way to successfully defending their title. It is Bayern who start on home soil for this semi final clash where they will want to come out and press home a solid advantage. The cracks that have been in the back line of Real Madrid this season may give the Germans plenty of hope.

Bayern Munich News and Form
In each of the last four seasons of the UEFA Champions League, Bayern Munich have been knocked out by a Spanish side. Last season it was Real who got the better of them in the quarter finals. This is the 11th semi final appearance by Bayern Munich in the European Cup and across all European competitions, this is their 19th semi final appearance, goingW10 L8 from those previous final four visits. They are on a three-tie semi-final losing sequence at the moment though. Bayern Munich hold a W10 L10 record in two-legged ties against Spanish sides, but they have tasted success this season against La Liga opposition, getting past Sevilla in the last round 2-1 on aggregate. That at least snapped one losing sequence of four straight two-legged tie defeats against Spanish opposition.
Before drawing 0-0 with Sevilla at home in the second leg of their quarter-final tie, Bayern had won all four of their previous home matches in this season’s competition, including an 8-1 success over Besiktas in the round of sixteen. Bayern have already captured the Bundesliga title this season and haven’t lost a home game in any competition all season (W13 D3), banking twelve clean sheets in that sequence. Robert Lewandowski has 17 goals in 16 games in 2018 (at the time of writing) while Sandro Wagner has eight goals in his last ten appearances. They have clear scoring power and both teams to score at bet365 is at 8/15 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 3:24 p.m. on April 20th, 2018). Can they be the ones to stop the reign of Real Madrid in the competition?
Real Madrid News and Form
Despite losing heavily at home against Juventus in the second leg of their quarter-final duel with the Italians, Real Madrid thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo managed to squeeze through. His last penalty means that he has scored in each and every Champions League game played this season and he is an 11/8 anytime goalscorer option at bet365* (Betting Odds taken at 3:24 p.m. on April 20th, 2018). The numbers that he has in the Champions League is just ridiculous. Ronaldo has 25 goals in his last 15 Champions League games, fifteen in this season’s tournament alone. Real Madrid holds a W15 L13 from previous semi final appearances in Europe and they have won three of their last four semi-final ties in the Champions League. Their home loss against Juventus in the quarter finals was just their third loss in 29 European fixtures (W20 D6). Real Madrid have lost two for their last six European away games, including this season’s defeat at Tottenham in the group stage.
Their defence hasn’t been up to a high standard this season at all though. They have only four clean sheets in their last 24 games in all competitions. In the bet365 correct score market a Bayern Munich 2-1 is a reasonable option at 15/2 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 3:24 p.m. on April 20th, 2018). The Spaniards have won in Germany this season though, taking a 3-1 win at Borussia Dortmund in the group stage. Overall Real Madrid’s record in Germany is W6 D7 L19 so that’s not good at all. However, they have won five of their last eight there so have been steadily improving that record. Los Merengues’ record in two-legged ties with German clubs in UEFA competition is W17 L8, winning each of their last six.
Bayern Munich v Real Madrid Head to Head
This will be the fourth time in the last seven seasons that these two are meeting for a two-legged tie. From those other three it is Real Madrid are 2-1 ahead. Of the overall eleven previous knockout contests between them (all European Cup) Madrid are narrowly ahead 6-5. Last season the two met in the quarter finals, with 2-1 away wins traded which took the second leg in Spain to extra time. Just before that, Bayern were controversially reduced to ten men then to make things worse Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock with an off-side goal and Bayern collapsed. That leaves Real Madrid on a five-match winning streak against the Germans.
Who will win – Bayern Munich v Real Madrid Predictions
Bayern Munich are good enough and strong enough to get themselves the win in this one. They have the players who can expose the obvious weaknesses that are there in Real Madrid’s defence. The Spaniards are unlikely to hold out. Home win.
