Bayer Leverkusen News and Form
Leverkusen took a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga last season to make what is their 12th group stage appearance. In all but one of their last eight appearances, they have made it past the group stage. Their best effort in the competition came back in 2002 when they finished as runners up. They missed out on Europe altogether last in the 2017/18 season but were back in the Europa League last term.
They topped their section there but tumbled out of the competition against Krasnodar in the round of 32 on away goals. The Germans have drawn seven of their last 12 European home games (W4 D1) so are going to be a tough side to break down. In their last six home games in the UEFA Champions League, the Werkself are W1 D4 L1. Bayer Leverkusen are undefeated in their last seven games against Russian teams, with a W4 D4 L3 record overall. They are W2 D2 L1 at the BayArena against Russian visitors.

Lokomotiv Moscow News and Form
This is the fifth group stage appearance by Lokomotiv Moscow and they took part last season. That was their first appearance since the 2003/04 season. They weren’t that competitive in last season’s group stage, finishing bottom of their section, posting a W1 L5 record in the campaign. Their lone success was against Galatasaray, with Porto and Schalke also in that particular group.
Lokomotiv had been on a six-match losing streak in European action before their win over Galatasaray. They did lose all three road games last season in the group stage which leaves them on a four-match losing streak of European form. The Russians are W4 D4 L5 in their last thirteen European away games. If you look at qualification matches as well, Lokomotiv Moscow are on a winless streak of D4 L9 in their last thirteen away games in Europe. They hold a W1 L7 record against German opposition.
