Barcelona News and Form
Another league title has landed in the lap of Barcelona. Can they add the Copa del Rey title on top as well? They have dominated the competition recently, having won each of the last four editions. When teams have won a league title early, it is hard to gauge their form because naturally, their intensity levels drop off. Barcelona are W1 D1 L2 in their last four games, one of those defeats that stunning Champions League loss at Anfield against Liverpool.
Barcelona did come past Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey this season, taking a 4-1 aggregate win over their rivals. That was after an 8-1 aggregate win over Sevilla in the quarterfinals. Barcelona also beat C Leonese and Levante in previous round, comfortably at that. It has been another season of big success for Barcelona and they will be geared up for this. Lionel Messi got himself a brace on the weekend as they played out a 2-2 draw against Eibar in their final league game of the season.
Barcelona v Valencia Head to Head
There were two drawn matches between them this season in La Liga
Barcelona are unbeaten in their last eight against Valencia in all competitions
Both teams have scored in six of the last eight meetings
Barca are W5 D4 L3 in previous Copa del Rey matches against Valencia
Valencia News and Form
Valencia have won three of their last four games, so they have finished the season somewhat strongly. They are a good team, but they go patchy here and there. They are W3 L4 in their last seven games in all competitions for example. Five of their last seven games have gone over 3.5 goals and they have been giving up a lot of goals. Their 2-0 success at Valladolid on the final weekend of league action is their only clean sheet in eight fixtures across all competitions. But then they carry a great scoring threat, so it’s hard to read them at times.
This is their first appearance in the final of the Copa del Rey since lifting the title back in 2008 with a 3-1 success over Getafe. They have won the title seven times before in their history and have claimed the title on their last two appearances there. They can take some hope from their two draws against Barcelona this season, but can they find their winning touch on the day to take down the Catalans? If you take out their Europa League semi-final defeats against Arsenal, then on the domestic scene this season, they have been a tough side to beat.
