Australia v Honduras World Cup 2018 Qualifiers, 15th November

It is all square in the World Cup play off tie then as these two look to secure a berth in next summer’s tournament. On the evidence now of the first leg, it is the Socceroos who are the more likely of the two to get through, especially with home advantage now. That is, if they can bring their shooting boots. Honduras looked poor on home soil in the first leg and have a big task ahead of them now. Honduras are 6/1 underdogs with the draw at 11/4 and Australia are 4/7 with bet365.

Australia v Honduras Betting Tips

There wasn’t a lot going on in the first leg of this World Cup play off, but what there was, Australia had the better of it. They had the better possession and better chances of the game but they are clearly lacking a bit of quality up front and given the pressure of the situation it is likely that this game will go under 2.5 goals which is a price of 8/13 at bet365 and under 1.5 goals isn’t without its appeal at 2/1. There’s not a lot of quality overall in the two squads going forward. The Socceroos haven’t been in great scoring form and they had a real struggle to get past Syria in the AFC play off round simply because of chances going wasted. They have drawn their last three games (90 minutes) and have actually only won of their last nine games played (90 minutes).

Australia are W1 D5 L3 in their last nine. Not exactly the form to strike fear into anyone. They badly need a striker and the most likely for them to find the back of the net is Tomi Juric who is a 13/10 anytime goalscorer favourite for the match. Tim Cahill, who got the crucial winner against Syria and who flew to Honduras in a compression boot to try and heal himself, is a 7/4 option. There is a decent chance though that they will hold out on home soil in the game at the back and there is price of 11/8 at bet365 on Australia to win to nil. The Aussies competed in the Confederations Cup in the summer and lost 3-2 to Germany while drawing 1-1 with both Cameroon and Chile. An Australia 1-0 correct score at bet365 is a price of 9/2, the shortest option in the market.

It is hard to see Honduras getting back into this on the road. They were really poor on home soil and were lucky to survive in that first leg. They are level but they can’t hang all of their hopes of Australia being poor in front of goal. Like Australia, Honduras aren’t exactly running in hot form but they have been hard to beat. They have gone W2 D3 L1 in their last six games and they only squeezed into the play off place in CONCACAF through the final round of qualifiers, helped out by the USA losing against Trinidad & Tobago or else they wouldn’t have been at this stage. They were on a recent spell where they failed to score in four of five games played but have netted in four of their last five now. But still, on the evidence of the first leg and with them being out on the road, they probably aren’t going to really raise much of a genuine threat in this one.

Who will win – Australia v Honduras Predictions

Australia to win: The Australians have to be favourites here. They are badly lacking a quality striker in the squad, but they can produce enough it would seem, against the below-average looking Honduras to get through to the World Cup. Home win.
