Aston Villa v Tottenham Betting Preview
This match has been all the more interesting after Villa were crushed at Stamford Bridge 8-0 by Chelsea on the weekend. What will the response from Paul Lambert’s men be, in another difficult fixture? Will they be able to fight back or will the Christmas stuffing have been knocked out of the young side? Spurs dropped points in the race for a top four finish on the weekend, being frustrated at home against Stoke. Will their superior fire power be able to get the better of things at Villa Park?

Aston Villa v Tottenham Recommended Bet:
Things were actually going quite swimmingly for Aston Villa, who were on a five match unbeaten run until they crashed into Chelsea on the weekend. Paul Lambert’s men, who have had their struggles this season, had pulled out a couple of goods wins and a few draws to pull themselves away from the drop zone. But their young side were just torn apart, beaten up, as the boss said early at the Bridge. So what next for Villa? They were defeated 2-0 at White Hart Lane earlier in the season, but they should go better at home. The Villains have actually kept three clean sheets in a row at home now, taking two draws and a win in that run, if they get another, they’ll equal their own record of four shutouts in a row. Scoring goals has been an immense problem for Villa this season, averaging just one per game, the same rate at which they have conceded at home. 75% of Villa’s home games this season have gone under 2.5 goals and you just wonder if they are worth backing to get a draw out of this game? They have to have some kind of response in them don’t they? They have clean sheets in half of their home games, so they could frustrate Spurs. All the pressure will be on their opponents really to try and follow up what Chelsea did, so Villa could get a reward out of this one. Villa took a 1-1 draw against Spurs in the corresponding fixture last season and that scoreline has happened twice in the last four meetings, the other two ending in 2-1 away wins for Spurs.
Tottenham have scored in every away match in the league this season, the only side to have done that. Tottenham have not lost any of their last eight Premier League matches against Aston Villa, winning five of them. Spurs have been in some handy form lately, winning four of their last six. They ran into a stubborn Stoke at White Hart Lane on the weekend, failing to win but keeping their third clean sheet in the last four matches. Boss Andre Villa Boas will be happy to see that, as they have dropped loads of points this season from late goals, conceding ten all season in the last fifteen minutes of games. Tottenham average two goals per game on the road this season, which is some pretty strong scoring. However, they have conceded a just under two goals, so defensively there is room for improvement. All of Tottenham’s away games have gone over 2.5 goals this season which could be a trend worth riding. They have also been very good at getting in front, opening the scoring in 13 of their 18 matches so far, so they will be expected to score first. Although Spurs have lost three of the last four in a row, they have scored first in each of their last seven away games. Emmanuel Adebayor has four goals in his last three starts against Aston Villa. It probably won’t be a big margin of victory in this one, but would just edge Spurs to get it. A Spurs -0.5 Asian Handicap for a price of 5/4 at online bookmaker Paddy Power looks decent.
