Arsenal News and Form

Arsenal had an easy time of things in the group stage of this season’s Europa League. But they have lost their two first-leg matches in the knockout phase so far, defeats against BATE and Rennes. But as a positive, the Gunners showed some character to turn those ties around. Can they pick up a comfortable home result here against a much tougher opponent? This is just the second ever meeting between Arsenal and Napoli after they were paired up in 2013/14 Champions League. The two traded 2-0 home wins on that occasion. Arsenal have a home record of W8 D3 L1 from two Europa League campaigns.

The Gunners have a home record of W10 D4 L2 against Italian opposition in their history which is great. They have won all but one of their last seven home games against Italian opponents as well, drawing the other game in that sequence. The Gunners have shipped only the one goal in their last seven home fixtures against Italian visitors too. Arsenal have won their two previous quarter-finals in Europe against Italian teams. Last season they faced AC Milan in the round of sixteen and won 5-1 on aggregate (3-1 in North London).

Napoli News and Form

Napoli have been up against English opposition already this season as they faced Liverpool in the group stage. The Italians took a home win against the Reds and then fell at Anfield in December. That loss in England leaves them with a D2 L5 record in seven trips to the country. Napoli have also lost their two previous two-legged ties against Premier League sides both ended in defeat, which was against Swansea in the 2013/14 Europa League following a defeat against Chelsea in the 2011/12 Champions League round of sixteen.

They could only manage a third-place finish behind PSG and Liverpool in the group stage of the Champions League, dropping down to the knockout phase of the Europa. They started off with a 5-1 aggregate win over Zurich, before edging Salzburg 4-3 on aggregate in the round of sixteen. Napoli won their one previous Europa League quarter-final tie, which was against Wolfsburg in 2014/15. They have not carried great form away from home in Europe as they are W2 D2 L5 in their last nine away games. They are W4 D2 L6 away from home in games in the knockout stage of the Europa League.

Who will win – Arsenal v Napoli Predictions

Arsenal need to get a leg up in this tie and they can get at the Italians. Arsenal are a pretty positive side on home soil and have been carrying good form there all season. The home win isn’t a bad fit for this one at 5/4 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on April 7th, 2019 at 7:12 p.m.)
