Argentina v Croatia Prediction & Betting Tips – World Cup 201821st June 2018 / lee
Argentina v Croatia World Cup 2018, 21st June – 7.00 p.m
(Full time: 0:3 – goals: Rebic 53′, Modric 80′, Raketic 90+1′)
Argentina were left frustrated in a 1-1 draw against Iceland in their opening game with Lionel Messi missing a penalty kick to win it. Once again Argentina looked short on pace and threat and they get a tough game here. Croatia secured an opening win over Nigeria as expected and they will know the importance of avoiding defeat in this one, while a win would send them sailing towards the knockout phase. Argentina v Croatia Betting Tips
So there is some pressure on Argentina here to come up with a win. They failed to find a way past Iceland in their opening 1-1 draw to get the win, and they frankly looked as if they ran out of ideas pretty quickly. Unless it was Lionel Messi running from deep Argentina looked short of pace and quality in and around the box. Messi missed a chance to give the Albiceleste the win from the penalty spot and he never looked confident in taking it. The pressure of the World Cup title missing from his career could already be taking a toll at Russia 2018 on him. Argentina found Iceland far too organised and strong at the back to break down and they will get another physical challenge from Croatia in this one. A draw wouldn’t mean the end of the road for them in qualification but it would leave them sweating going into the final round of matches. This was never going to be an easy group for them and they are going to have to show a bit of character here. Under 2.5 goals for the game is at 13/20 odds with bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from June 18th, 2018 at 6:54 p.m.). This is likely to be a very tight game and probably a slow, ponderous one at that.
Messi didn’t get too much of a look in on goal again Iceland but he is the 10/3 first goalscorer favourite* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 18th, 2018 at 6:54 p.m.). It was Sergio Aguero who got their opener, netting his first ever World Cup goal for his country, but he was otherwise totally anonymous in the game. Argentina’s form for their last five games reads W2 D2 L1 so they aren’t running hot and one of those wins was against Haiti. In that sequence both wins were with a clean sheet and any time they conceded in that run of games, they failed to get a win. Croatia will pose a threat and both teams to score in this one is at 19/20 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 18th, 2018 at 6:54 p.m.). Do the Albiceleste have the quality to put themselves in a better place? It does look as if they are unsure of their best side.
Croatia pulled out a 2-0 win over Nigeria to open with and that was a tricky game for them to handle in their opener. But they got the job done and it leaves them with three wins in their last four games. They have a very good midfield and one that will compete hard against Argentina, whereas Iceland just sat back and didn’t threaten in the middle of the park against the Albiceleste. So this will be something different for Argentina to try and handle. Croatia’s goalscoring hopes largely rest on the shoulders of Mario Mandzukic who is an 11/4 anytime goalscorer option with Andrej Kramaric at 10/3 odds with bet* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 18th, 2018 at 6:54 p.m.). A draw would leave Croatia on four points and Argentina on two heading into the final round of matches. That would still leave Croatia with a good advantage in trying to win the group. Looking at the state of play there is no need for them to actually push the issue too much and a Croatia/Draw Double Chance is great value at 4/5 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 18th, 2018 at 6:54 p.m.).
Argentina v Croatia Head to Head
Three times Argentina and Croatia have met before and Argentina have a W2 L1 lead from those meetings. Their first ever meeting was at the 1998 World Cup, their only competitive game to date and Argentina collected a 1-0 win on that occasion. The other two meetings were both settled by a one-goal margin as well.
Who will win – Argentina v Croatia Predictions
We have thought from the start that Croatia will have enough to challenge Argentina in this group and now the Croatians have their noses in front. That is going to make them difficult to beat and for our Argentina v Croatia predictions were can see big value in a Croatia/Draw Double Chance.
