Introduction

Bwin are one of the world's biggest bookmakers, thanks in part to their high-profile partnerships with Real Madrid, Milan and Bayern Munich. There is no history of betting shops or a telephone operation with bwin International Limited, who entered the market in 1999 and got their current name in 2001 when the Vienna-based, publicly-listed bwin Interactive Entertainment AG took over. The company trade out of Gibraltar, boast over 100 members of staff but claim to have 20 million customers.

Bwin Review & Ratings

Bwin Odds

Middle of the road would be the best way to describe bwin's football prices. They generally don't have the best price about a particular team or player, nor do they have poor odds. We would estimate that they bet between 108-100% on events like the World Cup, Champions League and Premier League and sharp customers might struggle to find an edge against the trading team. However, when you look at their In-Play prices, you will notice little difference between those and the pre-match odds, so that's a plus point for bwin.

Markets

Bwin are very accurate when it comes to how many markets are available at any given time. As we write, there are nearly 5,000 betting opportunities available on a range of sports, with the firm covering over 30 sports. Ten are immediately visible in the left-hand margin and this is where there is real depth of coverage, especially for football, although the pre-match fare tends to be no more than a dozen markets.

Indeed, it's not until the customer bets In-Play that they experience what bwin are all about. Tennis receives the same treatment, with just one or two markets created for each match but several more available when the game goes live. It's almost as though the operator are trying to steer their customers into placing a bet when the odds are frequently updating, which at least shows they have identified future trends.

Website

This is probably the jewel in the crown for bwin. For starters, the site is available in 23 different languages, including Catalan Spanish, Turkish and Dutch. There are some excellent graphics used to promote the big upcoming events, with links straight through to the biggest In-Play event on the splash page. The pages are generally quick to load and there can be fewer bookmaker sites that have such a slick feel as this.

It's strange that bwin choose to include 'Bet of the Day' above 'Top bets' and 'Last minute bets', although one area which is spot on happens to be the live betting section which is stationed on the right-hand side of the homepage. It takes a little while to load, although the next section will explain why it's worth having a bwin account.

In-Play Betting at Bwin

As mentioned above, live wagering is something that bwin focus heavily on and it's probably fair to say that over 50% of their turnover is probably bet In-Play. This is an excellent dynamic product which lists a variety of events being covered in the left hand margin and a full array of live markets right in the middle of the page. The customer is blessed with data relating to the match in question, including the goal count, as well as the number of yellow and red cards.

Live streaming regularly accompanies the odds and it's great to have the picture of an event sitting alongside the odds, with the functionality very good. The customer can also click on the 'Overview' tab to see the full list of what's being covered at that very moment, how many markets are available and whether there is streaming available. It's incredible that there are over 50 In-Play possibilities available for some soccer matches and we should expect this for the Premier League.

Bwin Customer Service

If In-Play is the strongest area for bwin, then customer service is harder to get excited about. While we all like to focus on the exciting things, it appears that the company have overlooked the small matter of servicing clients properly. There's nothing wrong with the support, who are polite and efficient, although the lack of 24/7 service and the fact you have to select the type of query from the drop-down is not particularly helpful.

Bwin Free Bets & Promotions

You can qualify for up to £20 when you register with bwin. Simply deposit funds into your account and they will double your deposit up to £20. In addition, there are the wealth of events (around 5,000 every year) that are covered In-Play, while there's something hidden away on the site called b'inside, which is a members program. Here, you can accrue loyalty points and put them towards football shirts, laptops and other merchandise.

Summary of the Bwin Ratings Review

Bwin's strengths are clearly the glossy website and the outstanding In-Play offering, which must mean that a high percentage of their turnover comes from live wagering. When it comes to betting on televised matches and enjoying the highs and lows, there is no operator that does it better, although this sportsbook need to diversify in terms of sports and market range.
