Holland v Denmark World Cup 2010
June 14, 2010 - Kick off 12.30 GMT
There‘s every reason to believe that Bert van Marwijk‘s team will begin their World Cup campaign with a win. While friendly matches can often be misleading, the Dutch have scored a total of twelve goals when beating Mexico, Hungary and Ghana, something which suggests that they‘ll be finding the net at Soccer City in Johannesburg. While it‘s not clear whether Arjen Robben is going to be fit enough to start this Group E opener, the Netherlands are blessed with some excellent attacking players, with Wesley Sneijder and Robin Van Persie working particularly well in tandem.
It appears that Nicklas Bendtner will be fit for a Danish team that finished ahead of Sweden and Portugal in qualifying, so we shouldn‘t underestimate Morten Olsen‘s team. Indeed, while they don‘t have the star names of their opponents, Simon Kjaer is a young defender with a bright future and Daniel Agger has been a consistent performer in a Liverpool shirt for several seasons. You do wonder how they might manage to contain such a formidable outfit, while recent defeats against South Africa and Australia suggest they might finish with nothing from the game.
Best odds for the Holland win is 1.57 with Paddy Power.
