Birmingham City v Wigan Athletic February 27, 2010
At the start of the season, the bookmakers expected Wigan to finish above Saturday‘s opponents, although they are separated by twelve points in the Premier League and this could easily be fifteen after the clash at St Andrews. Birmingham won 3-2 at the JJB Stadium back in December, three points which were deserved and formed part of their fantastic unbeaten run at the time. Although results have dipped a little in recent weeks, City were close to nabbing a point at Craven Cottage last Sunday and could prove too strong for a team that were on the end of a heavy home defeat last weekend.
Indeed, there was nothing to indicate during the Latics‘ 3-0 loss against Spurs that Roberto Martinez‘s side would be in for anything other than a relegation scrap this season, and they could easily be relegated. The goals have dried up for Hugo Rodallega and the defence have now conceded 52 goals in 26 Premier League matches. It‘s possible that the attack-minded midfielders in the visitors‘ team will be overrun by Lee Bowyer and Barry Ferguson, while manager Alex McLeish is likely to revert back to a 4-4-2 formation for this clash.
