Stoke City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers October 31, 2009
Since beating Burnley on the opening day of the season, Stoke have not looked like relegation candidates this season, with last Saturday‘s 1-0 win at White Hart Lane illustrating how far this team have come in a short space of time. While they rode their luck against Tottenham, they were defensively very solid and proved in Steve Simonsen that they have two quality goalkeepers at the club. Ricardo Fuller and James Beattie are proving a forceful strike partnership, with Salif Diao and Rory Delap ensuring that the well-organised defence are well-protected.
Although the Potters lost at home to Manchester United and Chelsea, they have beaten Burnley, West Ham and Sunderland, so it follows that they stand a strong chance of beating Wolves. Mick McCarthy‘s team have lost three of their five away matches and, although they managed draws with Everton and Aston Villa in their past two games, they may come off worse in the competitive battle with Stoke. It will be a feisty Staffordshire derby and one in which the home team should come off better. Best odds for the Stoke City win is 1.95 at Expekt.
